"The service provided by NewDay credit card is worse than appalling! For a start they shut shop at 8pm and if you try to make a transaction after this time to a supplier you haven't used before it's more than likely you'll get your card locked. Nevertheless you get a message from NewDay to communicate with them and confirm it is a genuine transaction. No good though because they've all gone home and you have to wait till the following day to get it unlocked. If you happen to be abroad and desperate to pay for something in Tanzania or Bhutan (for example) what do you do when your card gets locked? And this is the service delivered by this clueless company on behalf of John Lewis! Today I discovered that there is no group or team of people in John Lewis who monitor the performance of NewDay and that's why the customers of John Lewis receive such an appalling service! John Lewis need to have a review button on their website to enable customers to post their reviews directly to them!"

"I can agree with all the poor reviews about NewDay and JL’s decision to move away from HSBC to this shoddy company. Like so many others my application was refused and I have not been able to to find out why. I have had a JL card since it’s inception. Every month my account is settled by DD. I am a Company Director with no mortgage and no other debt. My credit score is excellent on Experian. I visited JL Oxford Street last week to relay my experience to them. This prompted a phone call to ND and today I received an email from them (ND) apologising. The picture below shows a portion of the reply. I applied for an Amex card the other day which was approved. My card arrived after four days with a £10k limit. Thank you Amex! This is now my card of choice. Goodbye and good riddance to NewDay."

"Recently I was swapped to New Day as the new operator of the John Lewis Partnership card. I did not have a good first experience.

I was called by 'New Day' on my mobile phone and asked to provide various details, full name, address, date of birth etc.... I, of course, refused. I asked them how do I known you are who you say you are and not a scammer. They could not answer.

I ended the call. Now I find my new Partnership card has been stopped. After calling the customer service number and waiting for 45 minutes, I gave up and resorted to Twitter. Still awaiting meaningful contact.

Avoid this company at all costs. They are useless at absolutely every level.

Atrocious."

"Bought a cooker on AO 12 month intrest free first DD one month later before that could happen had a £5 transaction fee (as yet not explained) added to my newday account. Got a text to say they had not been paid set up the portal account and found there is a charge but no details as to what its for. Attempt to pay it and card wont process takes up to 72 hours. few days later I see the payment plus a new £12 charge for LATE payment. wasn't late you processed it 2 days after I made it!

Then i get a email tonight saying because iv broken the credit agreement there now going to charge me interest at 19.9% for the rest of the contract. i log in and attempt to pay the entire balance to avoid any such rubbish. only to be presented with a OOOPS something went wrong every time i try to make a payment same as when i tried to pay the £5 *fee*

This will lead me to never use AO again for any service and have all ready contacted them to close my account (which you can only do by phone) ill be calling new day in the morning but having looked at the reviews here i don't hold much hope."

"Bought several items from AO.com on finance, who use New Day to provide their finance, so I bought two ovens on Buy Now Pay Later in November, then a Washing machine on 12 months 0% in March.
Made payment to clear the oven balance before the 6 months was up (so as not to incur interest) in May 2021.

New Day decided that they would take this payment and instead pay off the Washing machine first as, in their view, this was the 'more expensive' debt. Despite it being 12 equal payments with 0% interest. So, I now have to pay interest on the 2 ovens I bought, despite having done everything required of me as stated within the finance agreement to prevent interest being charged.

Having complained, they rejected the complaint, still insisting that a 0% interest free credit agreement is, somehow, the most expensive debt and so they are correct in paying this off first.

Utter shambles of a company, their helpline know nothing of credit regulations or even credit products that are available through the various retailers they work with (they don't know the difference between an instalment plan and Interest Free Credit). Even their complaints dept know the difference between an Instalment plan and a 0% Interest Instalment Plan. If they did, they would have realised the mistake and corrected it. Instead they gaslight and try to get away with charging interest that they are not entitled to.

Told AO that they need to review who they use to provide their finance as it is dragging their name down too.

The images attached show their mistakes. Clearly, I have 11 months left of the interest free agreement. This would have been 11 equal payments of £38.25 to clear the balance (422) withouth any interest. This clearly being the 'cheapest' debt. 0% interest free instalment plans are clearly a clearly different product to the standard instalment plan. Yet New Day don't seem to know the difference.

The images show the £1350 deposited, but £420 of which is first used to clear the balance on the 0% interest free instalment plan. The rest is then used to clear the BNPL balance, so £422 left outstanding on the BNPL is then transferred to a standard (i.e. interest bearing) account."
