We had to move our holiday cottage in Alnwick due to there being no central heating and no hot water. The nest thermostat could only work if all downstairs rooms had doors open... freezing! Shower was leaking from the body. Purely lack of knowledge and maintenance. We were moved. Lost a day through different check out days. New place had so many issues but we had given up. Lack of maintenance and care.

Booked “South View apartment” for 6 people in Alnmouth for 20th May 2023 for 1 week paid over £500 deposit and realised we are in the wrong area and need to be in Beadnell. Tried to alter the booking but the owner (not the company we booked with) said we have to cancel and if they don’t fill it we loose the full amount. We were prepared to pay the £100 admin charge as stated in the contract but not loose over £500. We gave 4 months notice and wasn’t taking our business away from Northumbrian Cottages just wanted to change the booking. No help whatsoever….so If anyone wants this area and this apartment for 1 week in 20/5/2023 please email me janeeaster@btinternet.com thanks Jane 🥰

Have booked cottages with this company for years with only a few problems. Then things have nose-dived in last few years. Booked a cottage then covid, so agreed we would wait a year rather than demand our money back (we're talking over 2k here) Next year the same cottage was 'damaged in a storm' and we were dumped with no offer to help seek a replacement - three days before our holiday. We didn't complain. Took it on the chin. Times are hard all round. This year, Prices have skyrocketed. We book again then are told later our booking is cancelled, and we are no longer welcome to book with them as the 'New management/owners' are dumping old clients that have a record of any complaints as to how they left the cottage. We always clean before we leave, but apparently someone 'years ago' thought we didn't clean enough. When I very politely asked for more details, it never got more specific than that. We're non-smokers who don't drink or party in any way. Confused. And then, like other renters we've heard about, we look and they have put the cottage on the market again at an even steeper price. So that's the deal. They wanted to charge more, but didn't dare ask. I get that it's a rough time. But really? So strange and sad.

The house I booked in Beadnell was great and I have booked again for next year. After my stay there was no request for feedback unlike other companies I have used. There were a few niggling little problems I would have liked to mention but this company is only interested in taking your money. Sykes Cottages are far more involved in their rental properties

Arrived at house to find house with no power and owners said they had notified Northumberland Cottages to say our holiday had been cancelled. Northumberland Cottages never contacted us or offered asistance despite uscasking for help from them. We had to find alternative accommodation. Now 2 weeks and so far only received an email saying that the accommodation was adequate, but will check with owner, despite Northern Power website showing that it did not have power all week.

Just back from a week (we left early) staying at Nettie's View, Amble. The house is in urgent need of a deep clean, the shower had damp on the ceiling and black mould around the bottom of the shower unit. The windows, blinds are filthy, in leaving I wrote "wash me" with my finger on the INSIDE of the window. I have emailed Northumbrian Cottages, but don't expect a response....First and last time I'll use them!

Eider Cottage, Embleton. Poor value for money. Not very clean in spite of being told not to arrive before 5pm due to deep cleaning between lets. Garden patio full of thistles. Fittings are shoddy, cut my arm on cupboard door handle that had exposed screws. Won't be booking with them again.

Initially I sent an email and got an automated reply saying DO NOT call or email our office etc etc. Cottage: 3 out of 5 rear windows were blown and a mess to look out of. Garden needs tidying as a mess compared to neighbours. Even a niehbour said this to us. Heating doesn't work on timer so have to switch on and off manually, ok if you remember to turn it off as you go out. No front letter box so big draught from front door. Rear door split on bottom panel and can see outside so net curtain inside blowing with the wind. Cooker hood light not working. Guide on tv remote not working so no idea what channels this tv has. Went to northumbria cottages shop front as can't call and notice on door said they are working inside moving bookings to next year. The notice was dated March 2020 and this was Oct 2020

Swan Cottage, Warkworth has damp bedrooms which exacerbated my young daughters asthma. Told to leave noisy dehumidifiers on constantly. Found black damp/mould around windows and constant smell of damp in bedrooms. Very disappointed, this cottage should not be rented out again until these issues are rectified.

We have been trying to contact Northumbrian cottages for ages to ask about our holiday booking in 2 weeks time. They don’t answer the phone, and do not answer emails. I got contact details for the owner and emailed them. The owner kindly rang me and said she had told them to cancel all bookings after 1st June due to Covid. This was not passed on to us and now we have no holiday. We had an email from the company on 12th July stating they would take the balance from our account! Knowing full well the booking had been cancelled by the owner!! My advice is DO NOT book a holiday with this company they are unscrupulous and untrustworthy.

Absolute sham of a company. I have been trying to contact them for weeks now. They offered alternative dates but nothing confirmed after many weeks of trying to contact them in various ways. Do not put yourself through the stress of dealing with this so called travel company as it will end in tears. Stay well clear. They are thieves.

They did not. Cancelled our booking and offered voucher but no refund. Tried to contact them several times with no success to reschedule our booking. Shoddy and unprofessional.

I realise these are difficult times, but I've been trying to contact the company to arrange a refund for our cancelled trip. We booked for a week during Easter and were contacted by email around a week ago asking us to re book within a year. We have used the company numerous times in the past and had no issues. We would prefer a refund at this time but are unable to contact anyone. While I realise we find ourselves in unusual and difficult circumstances, it seams odd to me that you can continue to book through the website but neither the telephone number or the email address are available to communicate with the company. I also tried logging in to my booking with no success. While I wish all who work with this company well in difficult times, I would appreciate the ability to discuss the current dilemma. If they have staff to take bookings then surely they have the ability and courtesy to correspond with existing customers?

Stay well clear. I am not in the habit of writing negative reviews but this company cancelled my holiday let on the day of departure when we had travelled to very near our destination! They did offer alternative accommodation but as they admitted “nowhere near Amble” and “very rural”. After cancelling and ruining a family’s 2 week holiday they offered just £250 in compensation! Pathetic! Costumer services were also pathetic with a very matter of fact these things happen approach. Will never use this company in any of its guises again! Be warned.

We stayed at Farne cottage, 19 North street, Seahouses. A really nice cottage but lacks a few kitchen utensils, tongs, small kitchen bowl, a casserole dish and maybe for winter guests a slow cooker for a stew/casserole after a long walk along the coast. You should also inform guests that the pub within a mile is “yards/meters” away and has live music till 00:30 on a weekend, and inform guests that the cottage next door is having work done to it, ie heating engineers banging about at 8 in the morning after not getting to sleep till about 1am. Whoop, yeah a great restful week away. NOT.

Had to cancel holiday 7 months beforehand (5 mths ago). We knew we would lose our 390 pound deposit but shocked to be told this week that we may have to pay the balance of the holiday if it isn't relet. Very unfair considering, unknown to us, they kept booking in place by accident and only realised this week when they asked for balance 8 wks before original booking, that they had failed to remove it. When we reminded them we cancelled, they said we emailed the owner direct and this didn't count. They are still claiming we will have to pay the balance, even though I read the initial contract again and it does not say that they can do this. Shocking!!! Don't book with this company without holiday insurance. Very unreasonable!
