“I like the controller. If I was reviewing the controller in and of itself: 5/5. It has missed some inputs here and there, but mostly this is when the iOS seems to be working hard, or a low battery situation, or a combination of the two, so I can't quite fault the controller when it's the phone itself having issues. This is a bit of a meta-review, looking at what it takes to use the backbone. I don't know if it's fair to dock a star since the issue is that I have to remove my phone from its case to use the backbone, and only maniacs are walking around with a 1000$ phone sans case. So literally any gaming controller thing is going to have the challenge of attaching to a wide variety of different cases. However, it is still annoying. I am concerned with the long-term ramifications of flexing my case off and on my phone 100s of times per year - the plastic is going to wear out sooner. The adapter works great for the 13 pro, but there's no easy way to store it in the provided backbone box. The backbone fits snugly in the cutouts WITHOUT the adapter in place, with the adapter attached it won't fit. But then the adapter is just loose wriggling around in the box. I'll probably use an Exacto knife/scissor to widen the hole on the L part of the backbone so that it can fit without having to remove the adapter just for QoL. I mean overall I'm nitpicking here, these are minor QoL issues, overall I'm really happy with the purchase and it provides a better and more ergonomic way to enjoy mobile games on my phone. I'm not much of a mobile gamer, but I've been in a bit of a "no desire to play anything" rut and diablo immortal, a new mobile game, has scratched my gaming itch and I've probably logged 100s of hours already - the backbone has made that experience a lot more enjoyable.”

“Functionally - the Backbone is everything it says it is. The controller is built well, fits the phone perfectly, and no real configuration is needed. It really is just plug and play. The companion app could use a little bit of work; it's an ambitious effort to cram as much value into a single app as possible, but there are a few tiny idiosyncrasies that keep it from being a killer.”

“I love being able to play where ever I am on my phone which is very convenient. The only problems I have are basically connection issues and the controller is a little too small on the handles…it makes it difficult to hold onto it while reaching for the other buttons. However, when connectivity is optimal and if the handles were a little longer it would be identical in feeling to console play in my opinion”

“I have enjoyed the backbone tremendously however the Xbox cloud gaming view shows up sideways on my IPhone so I contacted Xbox support to no avail and no answer’s why this was happening… Thanks, Randall Martinez”

“honestly, is a great product, i love it a lot! but i think it'll be better if you only have to pay for the cloud games & not for the app, thats why y give you guys 4 stars... & the other thing is that i cant use apple arcade, stadia, etc. I can only use Xbox Cloud idk why”

“It serves its purpose. The quality, however, is questionable for its price range. $100 for some plastic? It doesn’t even hold the controller in place properly with the rubber stoppers. You must be careful because given any mistreatment you could easily break the lighting plug. That being said, I still enjoy using the backbone often, it’s just really cheaply made. Should be $40-50 to be honest.”

“It makes playing mobile games a lot more enjoyable just had some issues setting up the Xbox cloud gaming but I think that was mostly just the instructions were a little confusing. Over all it is a great buy if you’re not wanting to spend a lot on a console. Just wish it would fit with my phone case so I didn’t have to keep taking it off”

“Streaming to twitch from the Backbone App is kind of lousy. The audio is so loud and unable to be adjusted. This product itself is pretty cool though. Wish I could have it in white though.”
