The materials and feel of the R8 at 5 star! But, the thermal carafe does not do a good job at keeping coffee warm and it drips when you pour. Very annoying. Also, way too much water comes out for the bloom. I wish that could be controlled

It does not hold the heat. Coffee gets cold quickly.

I want this Carafe to work better than it does but 1/2 the time I can't use it in my Ratio 8 as it will overflow if I make a full pot. It doesn't drip fast enough (using a chemex filter). Unfortunately my ratio 8 is also a bit dissapointing as the bloom stage does only wets half of my grounds. While I'm happy with the machine (it makes a great cup or joe) and appreciate the quality parts (especially the glass water compartment), my expectations for the design (especially with the price tag) have not been met.

While a huge fan of the coffee my Ratio Six produces, I remain disappointed that we had to pay anything for a defect-corrected carafe. This isn’t a $30 coffee maker. Further, I was quite surprised, after inspecting the replacement carafe, that the same corrected functionality can be achieved by gently removing the flexible plastic piece above the spout of the original defectively-designed carafe. I’ve tested the piece-removed carafe for a couple of days now and it works fine. And if for some reason, I want to have dripping all over my countertop during pours again, I can put the flexible plastic piece back - it attaches/snaps back in easily. But hey, for $40 I now have a lesson learned *and* a carafe planter suitable for flowers or cactus or something. TLDR version: Definitely buy the Ratio Six or the Eight if you want fantastic pourover coffee in the precise amount and strength you want. Now that the carafe has been corrected, you won’t have that to deal with. But yeah, if you already own one, maybe save yourself $40-$75 and simply remove the plastic piece. Doh.

Thank you for your feedback! We appreciate your insight. That part is removable and we're glad you prefer the pour without it. Our redesigned carafe aims to improve aesthetics and functionality by eliminating moving pieces like the lever.

We have enjoyed our Ratio 8 coffee maker but it often cuts off in the middle of a cycle, leaving water in the tank and unmade coffee and a big mess. The interior area under the cap has begun to bubble and peel off with use and so there are metallic flakes in our tank that had to be fished out.

Unit functioned normally for 7 years, then stopped working. 7 years is not a good lifespan for coffee maker in my opinion.

It wasn't anything special. I was hoping it would be better.

Returned as the unit was too large for my countertop. Design was very handsome but the process was more involved than we prefer for an every-morning ritual. Orientation of plug is also limiting depending on how you plan to position the unit. It protrudes from the water reservoir end and is thus an eye sore if the device is observed laterally from popular kitchen vantage points. Coffee quality was good but we struggled with bitterness initially. Be advised, in the unlikely event you return the item, you will have to pay for return shipping. At 15 lbs, fully packed, this will not be cheap. It was an unfortunately expensive way to learn this coffee maker, despite its strong design quality, was not for us.

The Ratio Six is a well designed coffee brewing device--except for the carafe. For those of us with mild arthritis of the hands, that carafe is trouble. The pouring lid requires a firm grip to tighten properly, but there are smooth edges to it, making it difficult to grip and align. The pour spout sprays fluid in a wide swath, even when held in the recommended position. The upper lip of the carafe body makes it difficult to get the last few ounces out of the carafe. My wife and I spent more time cleaning up spills than we did drinking the well-brewed coffee. Those problems with the carafe led to me returning the machine.

Hi Jack, Thanks so much for letting us know about this issue and we're sorry that it wasn't easy to manipulate the lid. We will take this into consideration on the next design revision as ergonomics is very important. Take care!

This is a beautiful unit that has an amazing mix of materials and finish work. It does an excellent job of replicating a pour over better than any other unit on the market. I do think that for the price the machine is very sensitive mechanically and is sensitive to sensor issues. Also if you are looking for a very hot pot of coffee this unit does will not meet your expectations as it operates differently from a traditional percolator. If you are looking for a more consistent experience and hotter pot of coffee, go with the Ratio 6. If you want a large batch pour over and want a show piece on your coffee bar, go with the Ratio 8.

First of all the pot is made very well. Second I am not happy with it. First time I used the filter broke because the top part for the filter had no bottom. So I am using my white one ..I had to re filter my coffee. Please put a bottom in the filter holder.

The carafe has a nice heft to it and keeps coffee warm for a bit but I was a little disappointed with the silicon lid. It feels like an after thought. If the lid had better insulation I think the coffee would stay warm for much longer than 90 minutes. I am aware of the specs provided so I knew what I was singing up for but, ya, the lid feels like it could have been designed better.

Beautiful machine, makes great coffee. Noticeably better than my bonavita metropolitan, which made very good coffee! Carafe is terrible or I’m incompetent. It is very difficult to pour coffee into a cup and not dribble all over the counter. I’d like to think that in my 36 years of living I’ve acquired the proper skills to screw a lid on a carafe and pour into a cup without spilling. Sometimes it’s like the coffee is leaking from between the carafe and the collar on top of it and not from the lid, it’s maddening. Fortunately for Ratio the coffee is good enough to overcome this downfall.

Hi Mark: I’d love to review my Ratio but I’m trying to get an exchange-it seems there is a defect in my machine. I’m patiently awaiting a return label but I have to be honest, it seems to be quite a long process to get this exchange going. I really want to love it-my brother has one and I’ve always been amazed by the coffee he makes with his. I’d really like to do the same with mine. I understand everyone is busy but I’m only asking for a return shipping label. Thanks.

The Ratio brewers make great coffee. Unfortunately, they’re hamstrung by a terrible design for the Ratio Six thermal carafe. This is a known issue, yet there’s been no fix to it over the years.

So far so good. Was looking forward to the six since it was announced and now that’s been here a week we’re playing around with the perfect ratio (no pun intended).
