“How exciting to get my first box filled with with so many different, interesting & yummy foods, reading material & the gorgeous chop sticks. Love it ! Can’t wait for the next arrival 🥰”
“Of the 4 boxes I ordered, this was definitely the weakest one.
The Momji & Chestnut Wagashi had an unpleasant texture, the Fried Ginkgo Nuts were only extremely bitter rather than lightly salty and subtly bitter.
The Nikki Yatsuhashi and Kitsune Senbei were extremely hard (despite tasting quite good) and the Nikki Yatsuhashi were a lot more cinnamon-y than expected.
The rest was quite good though, just the ratio of treats that were enjoyable vs treats that weren't was less one-sided”
“I loved the box and it was such a treat to share the snacks with my daughters. They are delicious and beautifully wrapped. The only negative I can say about is that the snacks were quite small. For example one snacks was nuts and I received two packages with three nuts each so a total of six nuts which is less than I would had expected. Also on the pictures of this months box there is cookies shaped as cats. The pictures displays two different cat cookies but my box only included one cookie. Possible that was a mistake but am not sure.”
“The snack sizes were tiny and box was small, I was expecting full sized snacks to enjoy, other than that the booklet was interesting and fun to enjoy new goods, but I think I would go with Tokyo Treat next time”
“I have subscribed to Sakuraco for just over a year. I often enjoy the boxes, but lately the quality is declining. The tea has more than once been a regular or lower-quality brand like Iyemon Cha. Over the last few months the snacks have been less substantial than they used to be, only one is included instead of two (which makes sharing the box hard), and there are often repeated filler snacks that I recognize from previous months. I've been hoping that the quality would go back up, but this month (July), the accessory that is normally included is a tenegui, which is supposed to be a towel. I have towels from Japan that are...towels. This is a piece of unfinished plain weave cotton. Maybe it's supposed to be like that, but I can't imagine that it would make it through even a single wash since it's fraying already, and I don't think it's equivalent to the dishes, glasses, and furoshiki in the previous boxes. I hope that the quality goes back up. This box is supposed to be local and hand-picked and it's clearly not. The price tag has always been a bit high but I'm no longer convinced that it's worth it.
I should also note that it's really hard to find a place to review the boxes, and I wasn't able to do so on the Sakuraco website. A shady practice, in my view.”
“All snacks were delicious, but not all of them were in the description book. Which means I couldn't know what the ingredients were, which is really risky for people with allergies. One of the snacks was also very dry and did not taste fresh. The price is also not justified, but nontheless a good experience.”
“The packaging of the snacks is wonderful to look at, the tea was delicious (as it always is) but most of the snacks this time weren’t to my taste, as they had been in previous boxes. Though I love the kerchief that came as the home goods item.”
“In the Moonlit Sakura box, the yeast bread was a definite highlight, I would buy a lot more of that! I also liked the uiro, and the sweet potato bite, along with the hard candy. But I do wish there were options for curating your box, because it included a lot of things I'm not really a fan of.
I think a missed opportunity is a shipping partnership with the suppliers to facilitate people being able to order a larger supply of an item they enjoyed after using the box as a sampler. For me, the whole point of trying things is to find things I like, but without being able to easily source my favorites, the novelty will wear off and I'll probably be sick of getting boxes with only 30% of things I actually enjoy.
Quite a few of the items were broken as well, which is a little disappointing because you're paying a lot for aesthetically pleasing snacks, but overall it's not a huge deal, no need for excessive packaging I guess.”
“Long awaited Moonlight Sakuraco arrived on 6/6/23. Love the cute glass cup. Most of the items were tasty....especially the hard candy, sponge cake, arares, and the mochi products.”
“The packaging in the presentation are very nice. However, the chocomochi wrappers are difficult to remove. We would like to see things that are more fruity, buttery or creamy. Something with matcha or peach.”
“I really like the way all snack is nicely package and never come in damage even the little ceramic dish that come sometime is alway safe. The price I feel is a little high but due to the shipping and curated items it would even out. I do like the snack but for a lot of the item is repeated but with a different flavor so if traditional Japanese snack is not your thing then this would not be the best snack box for you.”
“Okinawa Retreat box was full of flavours of brown sugar and shikuwasa which are famous in Okinawa .. i enjoyed summer time with this box, however i was so sad not to win this month's photo contest.. they did not even give me any reaction to my photos as if they were invisible 🙄
I loved " Shikuwasa Manju" so very much
And the lovely jasmin flavoured Okinawa Sanpincha 💛🧡”
“Price and quality were comparable to other Japanese snack boxes, but there were not enough salty and savory snacks in this one. There were WAY too many red bean items. I felt like half the box was red bean cookies. Red bean is fine, but I'd have preferred more variety and more salty stuff.”
“Packaging is beautiful and secure and the glass cup it came with is very beautiful. I enjoyed about half the snacks but the others were too sweet or just not to my liking but this is just personal preference. Everything was still very nice and the few snacks that I did enjoy were phenomenal. Expensive and would not buy again but very glad for the experience of my very first subscription box.”
“Saw Sakuraco ad via my Tokyo Treat box and decided to give it a try as I love traditional japanese sweets.
Got April box. Unfortunately I'm not too fond of the inedible stuff like porcelains, and to make it worse, my cup was somewhat chipped below the sakura pattern.
Some cakes were dry as I feared, but over than half others were good and I actually did love some items.
In all, my first Sakuracobox was less satisfying than my first TT box, but I will still give it some try regardless.
I hope May box will be better experience. Still wishing we could trade the porcelains with more snacks instead.”
