The course is pretty good but the process of paying and registration is horrible. The website needs to be improved.

The course was very user friendly but I did not find it very informative and was rather put off by having to watch Hollywood movie trailers as part of the course.

The training is largely stigmatizing especially against people of African and Arab origin. A "pirate" always portrayed as "savage" black person and especially the photo of the "pirate" standing in front of a ship, of black skin and wearing a Kaffieh. The Kaffieh is the traditional Palestinian scarf and thus this image stigmatizes both blacks and Arabs (particularly Palestinians) as "savage" criminal pirates. STCW should be more considerate on what symbols and images to use in order not to stigmatize and criminalize those already constantly marginalized along racist lines.

It does not work on iPhone .its not straight forward.its very expensive and some answers are not what I learnt onboard.

Hello Faith, we are sorry you had a bad experience. A large number of our students use an Apple device and it is only occasionally someone faces difficulties. Took too long get support for not being able to log in. Log in infrastructure wasn’t good at all and I heard multiple complaints from other people.

Thank you for your review. Although some material may give an impression to be 'outdated', the content is still very relevant for gaining knowledge regarding maritime disasters. For instance, the Costa Concordia disaster was used as a case study in the course you took. Although this event took place in 2012 it is still considered as a showcase for Crowd and Crisis Management training on board ships. Thank you for using STCW.online and safe sailing! Some questions on the assessment are quite debatable and different answers could be considered correct. Some parts in the course are not clear why it in the course and the questions in the course are strange attention questions. Not worth the 80 odd dollars...

The course is overpriced. There should be more visuals and audio. Most of the course is only slides with text. The assessment contains questions or possible answers to a question that were not covered in course.

You need to change some of the questions as many are hugely misleading and trick questions - particuallry the ones where there are multiple answers. There is also questions that include content and require asnwers of how to deal with situations that you dont even cover or state e.g if someone can go and get there medicind in an emergency you dont cover that? you allow people to go get warmer clothes but not medicine? yet you also say in one of the videos that if soemoone isnt going towards the muster point that you guide them in the correct way, very confusing when you dont cover stuff in the training and then ask questions about them. also alot of the questions dont actually even make sense e.g soemthing about what shows an effective response to an emergency? just think its bad english, what does that even mean - it should be more like what would allow for an effective response in an emergency !

Furthermore they have been audited and approved by several governmental shipping inspectorate's. Therefor they meet the standards set out in the IMO modelcourses (International Maritime Organization. Getting to the hard copy is extremely difficult paid no email on we will send. This is cost efficient and handy for courses but getting am official hard copy is very difficult

Although we are a fully online training center we do understand that some participants prefer a hard copy instead of a PDF which they can print out themselves. However, despite using a Track and Trace for each envelope it occasionally happens that there are errors with this service. I hope you understand that postal services are beyond our control. I have a course payed for and downloaded. However was interrupted by work, therefore could not complete the course. It has been a week and after mailing in I can not get hold of anyone to help me with a new link for the course, even after calling.

Being able to take these courses online is a convenient and cost effective method to obtain the certificates you need and approved by many flag states. Of course you are welcome to take the same courses offline at a physical institute but unfortunately many people don't have access to this and taking the course online is far better. Too many issues to overcome in order to access the courses. • Need to make sure you have certain internet restrictions turned off. I literally had to go to a different building with a different wifi router just to sign in and do my course! • Certain settings for different devices depending on how you want to access your course • Even after paying I still wasnt able to do my course until I made even more changes to my device settings • Couldnt access the app suggested to me to download my course to try and do it offline Thankfully the customer service team members I spoke to were quick to respond and very helpful. Fortunately for STCW.Online they are one of the only websites that offer online courses but it was terrible having to jump through so many hoops and then pay £80 for what is reality is a very basic online course. My thanks to Merel, who helped me access my online account and course

The course is good and handy. But there is zero communication. It was announced that I could request a stamped copy, I sent a request, but did not receive a response. So for now 2.

The course was filled with bad grammar and formatting. Two of the questions in the test have the wrong answers. In the course slides it says 60-80% human error accidents where as test says 80-90%. Another question says engineering controls are not the best method to remove a hazard.
