About Bali Holiday Secrets:

Let me help lower the risk of something going wrong during your Bali holiday. After years of passing on insider tips to family and friends, I'm sharing my local knowledge about money, transport, attractions and day tours.

Transfers from Bali Airport to your hotel or villa are easy if you book ahead. Remove the stress from arriving at Bali Airport and book a private car and driver to personally meet you and get you to your accommodations quickly and easily. Be met on arrival by one of my personally vetted, English-speaking drivers and receive comprehensive, detailed instructions on navigating the airport and making contact with your personal driver straight after booking.

Our day tours get rave reviews because my network of local drivers is second to none. I have personally vetted all the drivers I work with. They text me when they pick you up and again when you have been dropped off at the end of the day. I also email your driver’s name, profile photo, vehicle photo and phone number beforehand to ensure your safety and provide confidence. They are all incredibly knowledgeable and make amazing guides for your day tours around Bali.

We took the Noosa Panita east and west tour. What a joke. Spent hours in the car in five or 10 minutes at each beach which we couldn’t even swim at. I can sit in my car at home and go faster and more comfortable than the mountain road and see a beach anytime. Waste of my day and . However, both drivers that we had were very nice and accommodating.

Driver on Nusa Penida ok on driving, poor as a tour guide. It would be helpful to explain to prospective clients that if they are wanting to go down to Diamond beach they will be scaling a cliff so they need to wear suitable footwear and should avoid carrying a bag other than a back pack so they have both hands free to use the rope to scale the cliff.. If they plan to swim at Diamond beach they should travel in their swimsuit as there is very limited facilities to change at the beach and they need to be aware there is a strong tidal rip at the beach.

Hi Richard, thanks for the heads up that taking lugagge with you on the Nusa Penida Tour isn't appropriate, especially on the trek down to Diamond Beach. We've never had anyone try that before, so will be sure to inform future guests. Safe travels, Michael

Our driver was swapped out at the last minute. I had asked for a few cold bintangs in the car and a quick stop for cola on the way to motel. None of these things happened despite my asking several times to stop at shop and getting a yes response- Bloke missed out on a generous tip

Driver was friendly and responded well to our kids’ many questions. We weren’t impressed at being pushed to have lunch at tourist restaurant of his choice even though we asked for small local warung for lunch. The itinerary seems to be over ambitious and I question it is even possible in 10 hours. At the 8 hour mark we made the call to skip Jatiluwih rice terraces as it would have added an extra 3 hours or so on top of the 10 hours which makes for a very long day with kids. The itinerary (Git Git waterfall, Danu Beratan floating temple, Junglegold chocolate factory, Jatiluwih, Handarah gates, Taman Ayun temple) seems designed to fail with the allocated time which is disappointing. We only managed to fit in Git Git (one hour spent there), Junglegold (about 45 mins) and Danu Beratan (very crowded and took about 90 mins plus) so only half the included attractions. I’d be curious to know if anyone has succeeded in covering all these sights without going well over the 10 hours and paying out the extra time to the driver.

Hi Penny, I am really sorry you didn't get to all the attractions. We have taken literally dozens of happy customers on this tour that loved it and all have completed the list, except when they decided not to because they wanted to change their itinerary, which everyone can do. Our driver was trying to suggest that spending lots of time at the early attractions and over lunch with your kids was going to make it challenging to get to the later attractions on time. Regardless, I apologise you didn't get to see them all, but please be assured it isn't designed to fail - it is completely dependent on how long you spend at each attraction. We wish you and your family the best for your Bali holiday. Safe travels, Michael

The driver was polite, respectful and prompt. He was awesome! The coffee, tea and tour itself were nice as well, with the exception of the questionable ethics of the Luwak coffee shop. There were 2 civets caged with one pacing back and forth. When asked, the site employees said they’re let out at night with “handlers” watching them. Haven’t been able to confirm or deny, but regardless, the place seems to make enough to make a more habitable environment for the animals during the day and night. The guilt trip really hit after leaving, realizing the potentially real controversy that exists. It might behoove Bali Holiday Secrets to reconsider the partners in ensuring they are ethical businesses, I.e, avoid the elephant riding and so-called rescues that fuel black market trading.

Had booked a driver for 3:30am for a 2hour journey to Lovina for an excursion starting at 6am. (I left 30mins extra just in case). We waited outside our hotel, it got to 3:40am and I rang the driver, he said he had to ‘wait for the car’ from his friend, he said he’d be 20 minutes. Got to 4am, still wasn’t there and I was very aware we needed to leave ASAP to be in time for our trip. Rang again and he turned up at 4:05am. The journey was bad, reckless (more than usual in Indonesia) driving, through torrential rain, winding roads and fog, we had to tell the driver to slow down, even if it meant we were late for our trip. Created a huge panic and stress early in the morning, that set a bad tone and mood for the rest of the day. Do not recommend if you need a driver for a specific time, maybe would be ok for a casual trip or tour starting at 9am, but be aware that the drivers may be late so don’t book anything for any specific times. Was very disappointed with this service after choosing the company based on good reviews I read.

Hi Lewis - please allow me to apologise unreservedly for your driver being late for your early morning departure. If I had known earlier I would have compensated you for such poor service. I have spoken with the driver involved, and he has no excuse - he simply woke up late and it did;t give him enough time to arrive at the requested time. The 2nd issue is that he did;t tell me or the dead of transport that he was late for your booking, which means we didn't hear about it until now. We have made it a policy to only give the early morning starts to our more senior and experienced drivers. We do several early starts every week, including Mt Batur and Lempuyang Sunrise Tours without a hitch. Again, my sincere apologies for the inconvenience, thank you for your valuable feedback and please know we have updated our policy and systems to ensure that this does not happen again. Safe travels, Michael

Hi there. Thank you for your review of the Ubud Day Tour and your valuable feedback. As you took the itinerary that also goes to Tanah Lot after Ubud, we always recommend leaving the last of the Ubud attractions with enough time to get to Tanah Lot before sunset. Our driver did recommend visiting the temples in order as advised, and also that the stairs at Goa Gajah might be a bit much for you, and possibly added to your discomfort during the trip. I spoke to your driver personally for a debrief to see what went wrong, and it's worth noting your husband quietly tipped the driver generously for the valiant attempt to make it to Tanah Lot for sunset even though that was unlikely given the time spent at the attractions of your choice. I sincerely apologise for your poor experience and hope you enjoy your holiday in Bali.
