About Headstrong Counselling:

At Headstrong Counselling, we embody a vision that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of counselling and psychotherapy. Rooted in social justice and evidence-based practice, our mission is to democratise access to high-quality counselling for every member of our community. We firmly believe that everyone, irrespective of their racial identity, income level, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation, deserves the right to quality mental health support.
We recognise that addressing the community's mental health support deficit is not merely a service but a fundamental necessity. To this end, our commitment is two-fold: First, we strive to provide low-cost, yet high-quality counselling sessions, ensuring that essential mental health support is not a privilege but a right accessible to all. .
Second, we are dedicated to fostering a counsellor base that mirrors the diversity and richness of our community. Through rigorous clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, specialised workshops, and inclusion and diversity training, we ensure that our therapists are not only skilled clinicians but also culturally competent and socially conscious practitioners.
At the heart of our ethos lies the conviction that a sustainable and quality mental health service should not be reliant on external funding, grants, or governmental resources. We are committed to creating a self-sustaining model that flourishes independently, ensuring uninterrupted and reliable support to those we serve.

My time with headstrong was mostly extremely positive. I found my sessions with Amy really helpful, and the affordability is what made it possible to start therapy after years of thinking about it. I will say however, that the first therapist I was matched with before Amy I didn't find very helpful. Our sessions themselves were ok, but very quickly into seeing her I was told we had to move from in-person to online sessions without much warning or explanation. Not long into the online sessions there was a week where she didn't attend the session without any prior warning. I'm grateful for headstrong's affordability, for how quickly I was reassigned to a new therapist when I decided to change, and hugely grateful for Amy and the work I've done with her this year.

I was greeted, in the initial assessment, by a relatively qualified psychologist who seemed to be great at listening. Therefore I went into the therapy assuming that the counselor had all the information I confided to the psychologist. I found out that I was wrong at the 3rd or 4th time into the counseling, that the counselor did not know my true problem of coming into the therapy. We talked about one of my traumatic past which was, however, not the focus of my intention. The worst is I found that out the hard way, which made me start thinking to seek another treatment options. My suggestion is that, while it is bad to make someone who seeks help to repeat themselves, if it is about compliance or safeguarding that information would not be shared between the assessor and the counselor, please state that in the paperwork or make sure clients are in the knowing. It will also be helpful that in the first session the counselor could guide the clients to make sure both parties are on the same page. The service was nevertheless alright and would have been helpful from the look of it.

Cheap and simple process to onboard. The treatment would have been better with more of a structure to the weeks and some form of plan for the future weeks.

I underwent counselling with Headstrong for approximately 10 months during a challenging period of anxiety. The consistent sessions with my therapist played a crucial role in helping me regain stability, eventually enabling me to successfully taper off my medication. This success followed a previous unsuccessful attempt without therapy. It's important to note that the therapists are in training, so their experience may vary. Despite this, the service offers excellent value for money, and I have gone on to recommended it friends.

I had an excellent trainee Councillor and I hope everyone else is just as lucky. Venue wasn't too far from my home.

I’ve had the opportunity to try two different therapy types, and this was my first ever attempt to try counselling. The first one which I maintained for one and a half year, was after I left my 8.5 year relationship and I was in a complete desperation. I felt that the therapist wasn’t providing enough to me. It felt like a single sided narration from me, without getting any feedback. At that time it was quite helpful as I needed someone to talk to. But towards the end it felt like it wasn’t working for me anymore. The second therapist was much more suitable to me, although I had to change because I wanted to try with a native language speaking therapist instead of an English speaking. Overall it was a good experience to introduce me to therapy and understand what I needed.

I was in therapy with a trainee counselor for almost 2 years. It was quite reliable, and affordable however I do feel the therapist wasn't right for me but I carried on. I would love to come back shortly as the service was good but I still feel I need therapy and support again. A good option.

I've had very positive experiences with both counsellors Headstrong provided me with. I was with the first for many months, and was very pleased with how my sessions went. However, I'm not pleased with Headstrong's handling of the transition from one counsellor to the next. I was not contacted after my last session, and it was not until 2-3 weeks later that they replied to my (2) emails. Only then was I told how the transition process worked and that a) I would need to have a reassessment, and b) the reallocation process would take up to 8 weeks. There also seemed to be no internal communication regarding the final notes from my previous counsellor. Notwithstanding, the sessions with the counsellors themselves have been very good.

Very good service for cost, obviously depends on the person you get paired up with but these are highly trained individuals! Would be willing to pay more for the service.

They don't have a reception/waiting area and the room is not great but the therapist is great and has helped a lot. Friendly and professional service at affordable prices. I would recommend it.

I've used Headstrong a number of times - 3 separate occasions. It's really effective, person centred, affordable therapy. Easy to organise, state preferences and I have had a really positive experience of long term counselling.

I've only had 2 sessions to date but so far, I'm enjoying it. Head Strong say they provide 'low-cost, accessible, and high-quality counselling to individuals' and I would say this is 100% accurate and I would recommend it.
