About Headstrong Counselling:

At Headstrong Counselling, we embody a vision that goes beyond the traditional boundaries of counselling and psychotherapy. Rooted in social justice and evidence-based practice, our mission is to democratise access to high-quality counselling for every member of our community. We firmly believe that everyone, irrespective of their racial identity, income level, religious beliefs, or sexual orientation, deserves the right to quality mental health support.
We recognise that addressing the community's mental health support deficit is not merely a service but a fundamental necessity. To this end, our commitment is two-fold: First, we strive to provide low-cost, yet high-quality counselling sessions, ensuring that essential mental health support is not a privilege but a right accessible to all. .
Second, we are dedicated to fostering a counsellor base that mirrors the diversity and richness of our community. Through rigorous clinical supervision, ongoing professional development, specialised workshops, and inclusion and diversity training, we ensure that our therapists are not only skilled clinicians but also culturally competent and socially conscious practitioners.
At the heart of our ethos lies the conviction that a sustainable and quality mental health service should not be reliant on external funding, grants, or governmental resources. We are committed to creating a self-sustaining model that flourishes independently, ensuring uninterrupted and reliable support to those we serve.

Had a terrible experience with headstrong counselling. The official complaints raised were not addressed. Instead i received one email from 'compliance' but that was it, no response after the initial contact and no acknowledgement of the complaints raised through the official channels. The initial therapist i was assigned through headstrong counselling is not the therapist I ended up working with. Headstrong counselling enabled non consensual unauthorised third parties to act as though the therapist i ended up working with came from headstrong. Although i asked for a new therapist pretty quickly, there was so much back and forth over email around why i wanted a new therapist. They wanted me to contact the therapist to end the relationship before they would provide me with a new potential therapist i may or may not want to work with. Eventually found a different therapist. They gave me 6 new sessions to make up for the back and forth then withdrew the 6 sessions. Despite being assigned a new therapist the old therapist insisted on another session and continued to make contact whilst knowing I had been assigned a new therapist. The booking system wasnt functioning effectively. Overall it was not a good experience and it felt exploitarive towards black women.

Do not use this service. They are awful, therapists aren’t nice and neither is the customer service. This is meant to help mental health and it has only been hurting mine. Were not helpful or understanding of particular non negotiables I had. They pride themselves on helping people for cheaper but they refused to help me.

Very weird councillor. Everyone I’ve discussed her with agrees, she made sweeping uninformed statements about me and my relationship. Then wrote her final qualification statement on me which felt invasive

Poor. Was put through CBT without being told my options. Walked away disheartened by the experience.

My patient confidentiality was breached without my permission - I was told that if someone was going to contact my doctor, I would be told first. Imagine my shock when I received a phone call from my GP asking about suicidal thoughts. Great experience thanks very much!

I felt quite disappointed with the counselling I received. In our first session I was told about the different techniques my counsellor was trained in but never heard about which technique we were going to try and that was the last mention of it. I didn’t receive any guidance or tools to work on things. Perhaps we just didn’t click and that is the way of some therapist but I felt I needed a more proactive approach to tackling the things I came to seek help for. There were some good insights but on the whole I was quite disappointed with the experience.

Hi there, My counselling experience was very poor as it wasn't helpful. My therapist has asked me why i prefer men over women as a therapist this is unacceptable as therapist should respect.
