I came across SW James and their website blew me away, Warren created a video explaining part of their history and their work ethos. “When dealing with certain companies, you often receive 'personalised' messages from the CEO, which are actually just marketing gimmicks written by their marketing team. With S.W. James, this is no gimmick! Warren, the founder, was the person I first spoke to about my sofa. He answered all my questions regarding the depth of seats, softness of cushions and durability of the velvet I had chosen. He was incredibly knowledgeable and couldn't do enough to help. He also kept me updated on the build and delivery of my Monty sofa. All of this wouldn't mean anything if the products didn't match the service. I'm delighted to say that their sofas are absolutely top notch. Proper British craftsmanship, hand made and built to last, my Monty sofa is the perfect centre piece of my living room! I love Chesterfield sofas and the Monty is by far and away the most comfortable Chesterfield I have ever sat in. I fully expect it to give me many years of service - as Warren made sure to tell me, S.W. James will always be on hand just in case anything untoward happens in the future. One last thing to add - real quality of service only shows when things go wrong. The delivery men struggled to get the (very substantial) sofa into my living room due to its size and the limited space between the living room door and the staircase bannister. In their efforts to lift it, they accidentally put a dent in my hallway ceiling. I let Warren know, and without hesitation he offered to cover the cost of having the ceiling repaired using my local decorator. This was done promptly and without the slightest quibble. This level of service is all but unheard of these days and proves that this is a company that takes as much pride in its customer care as it does in manufacturing high quality products. I cannot recommend them highly enough and I am now a customer for life! If you are looking for beautiful furniture that lasts a lifetime and complete peace of mind, look no further!”

They claim to have made “The World’s Most Comfortable Handmade Chesterfield Sofas” a bold claim that I was determined to test through the grueling process of professional sofa sitting. After dragging myself from store to store, plonking down on chesterfield after chesterfield (it’s a tough job, but someone has to do it), I realised this claim might actually be true, so I ordered one. Wow! When it arrived, the quality was immediately apparent it looks fantastic. Because it’s handmade in England (not mass produced in China), I was able to make some bespoke additions that S.W. “I ordered an SW James No.12 4 seater sofa in December 2020 and spoke with Warren to ask that a few bespoke changes were made to it to accommodate our requirements. The sofa duly arrived (earlier than promised). The sofa is beautiful and very well made but I needed a couple of adjustments to make it perfect for my wife who, because she is a little on the short side, found the depth of the seat meant her feet couldn't touch the ground! Warren and I spoke and a solution was duly sorted out along with another adjustment I needed. Given that I had gone off piste from the original specification, Warren was always patient and worked so hard to make sure we were happy with our purchase. The resultant couch is now a masterpiece and we are delighted with it. I have to say that the customer service received was second to none.
