Unfortunately, the driver did not ring or knock & simply left the parcel where we had requested should we not be in - so we were waiting one side of the door & he delivered outside. Although we had checked regularly, we'd missed the actual delivery & our package was decidedly warm even though in a shady place. We therefore had to use it all immediately as the chiller-packaging had not left the meat chilled at all.
Please could I therefore request that in forecast hot spells you increase the quantity or 'frozeness' of the chilling packaging and, if drivers are not even going to check if we are in, please can they be supplied with a note to push through the letterbox, detailing date & time of delivery & where package put?
Having said that, the meat proved rescueable & we had to improvise fast, so we squeezed the sausage meat out of the sausages and mixed it all together, divided into 2 batches & added in sautéed onions, garlic & mushrooms with wild herbs to one & made amazingly tasty Scotch eggs & meatballs (froze the latter once cooked & chilled), the second batch had fresh ginger, dried apricots & tagine aromatic spices and some veg & beans to make a tagine for the next day, the diced venison was cooked with wild mushrooms, leeks, wild garlic and a few other foraged herbs & veg along with a good dollop of red wine & chilled then frozen for eating later - turned out the best of the lot as a wild & foraged version of 'meat' Bourguignon served over a millet & wild rice mix. Of the 8 people who tried some of each, that one came out top with the Scotch eggs, meatballs & tagine all tied second😁 (sorry, no photos this time, du to need to keep processing & get frozen or chilled as quickly as possible & we completely forgot when dishing up the Bourguignon & the meatballs - which were in a Sicilian pesto & pepper sauce.
Disaster averted, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves using whatever was to hand & the end products. Now I just have to order all over again, to have another go!😂 Will be in touch soon on that front.
