“I recently bought a Mantis pro version from this site and let me tell you first about the buying experience, Peter and team are just great they will just clear any questions you may have about the scooter and about shipping etc, they ate just great. The shipping to Mexico only took about 5 days with UPS so if you are buying from Mexico , rest assure that your shipping will get here soon.
The scooter works just great, I have only use it twice in ECO and one motor and it accelerates really quick I got up to 37 km/h and it os very stable, I weight about 205 pounds and is nothing for this scooter, I am really impressed. I compared this one against the Zero 10x and Dualtron 3, based on YouTube reviews, specs and price and I have no doubt the Mantis is a winner. I also bought a Horizon for my son, I will add a review on that one too. I will add an update in some months when I use all the features and get more familiar with it.”
“I received my Mantis Pro nearly a week ago, and coming from the Horizon, it is a totally different beast. The steering is much stiffer and stable, the suspension and tires make it extremely smooth, and the power is at times excessive.
Pros:
* Plenty of power
* Nice lights
* Great suspension / stability
* Fast charger option with 80%/90%/100%
Cons:
* Need a battery-powered headlight
* Under-deck lighting dims as voltage drops below 60v
* No USB port in the EY3 throttle
* Acceleration not easy to control when using dual-motor mode
* Slightly squirrely at 40+mph
* Range not as long as expected
* Regen braking is WAY too strong at times and often cannot be controlled even on lowest setting
* Cruise control will not release occasionally using a throttle pull
* Battery cut-off can be hit under strong load - so watch your voltage
Adjustments:
* Both hydraulic brakes - very easy to do
* Left (rear) brake lever needed adjustment to keep power from cutting off (Fluid Freeride video makes this easy)
* Added slime to both tires, set pressure to 40psi
* Set controller slow start to "3"
All of the cons are really small issues, the pros WAY outweigh them, and in many cases, there are easy resolutions. Even on slow-start level 3, in dual-motor mode, I find the acceleration very difficult to control. So I use the eco and/or single-motor buttons to start off and use dual motors only when needed, which is pretty rare.
I'm going to turn off regen for now. I was hoping to save the disc brakes but it isn't worth the unpredictability. The disc brakes are very smooth.
The biggest concern I have is the BMS voltage cut-off. My first day, I rode the battery down to about 30% and pushed it hard up the hill to my house and the scooter shut down two houses away from my destination. You cannot restart the controller without plugging it in, so when you get low on battery, you need to baby it somewhat. On longer rides, I'll take my charger in case I need to reset it and limp home.”
“So I've owned a xiaomi M365 for years, and weighing 190lbs with San Francisco hills, it involved getting off and pushing quite often. Decided to bite the bullet and step into the world of high power scoots.. And the Mantis Pro does not disappoint. This is day 2 of ownership, and just my initial impressions.
Size and weight – since I was only able to see this online, I had no idea how substantial this thing is. You can read specs and look at pics all you want, but until you see it in person, you won't really understand the beefiness. Even though this is considered light for its class, it is much larger and heavier than those rental scooters. You will not be one hand lifting this by the stem. I am also not sure if I can fit this in my trunk due to non-folding handlebars.
Build Quality – probably give this an 8 out of 10. Looks to be pretty sturdy and should be able to take a beating.. time will tell. There were a few half stripped screws, and one brake caliper screw that was only half screwed. (see pic) Also, a few random nicks and blemishes here and there, just me being picky, but not bad at all.
Power/speed – Just insane.. believe all the comments that says this thing is a monster.. you may need to get your head checked if you think this does not have enough power. With all the settings maxed out, you will do a front wheel burnout every time. (due to all the weight shifting to the rear) Have not tried steep hills yet, but think it will do well. And yes, I did manage to hit 40mph.
Suspension – Echo all the previous reviews that says this is plush - it is. What I can't figure out is if there is Oil damping(shock) inside the springs.. I see what looks to be an oil filled plastic tube, but cannot be sure. (see pic) Also, the rear footrest hits the rear fender on rough roads and makes annoying noises (see pic)
Part 2 to follow”
“I just purchased my new mantis pro im very excited looks like a great scooter really good company to deal with.they always kept me in touch.going to tell all my friends”
“Just an update for my first review.
This scooter is insanely fast and quick off the line.
I find myself mainly using single motor in mode 3 with torque set to 2. It gives me plenty of speed and acceleration without the massive kick dual motor mode gives me.
The dual motor has a very powerful kick and i use it mostly for hill climbing.
The build quality is still to my eyes very well build and solid.
Im still very pleased with my purchase.
With the knowledge that FFR stands by its customers, i have no doubt that if i do ever have an issue, FFR will take good care of me.”
“I put in an early pre order for the Mantis Pro. First step was communicating with FFR over a couple of questions... like are you going to carry the new Kaabo Mantis? FFR responded quickly to my emails and I placed an order soon after. Likewise FFR gave me a timeline for delivery that provided accurate. The scooter arrived in an undamaged box (what are the odds of that?) which was particularly handy as the four allen bolts that hold the stem in place were free roaming inside the box. Setup was easy and I used the included manual to check the P settings on the controller. I also watched the FFR YouTube video on P settings as well. The P2 motor magnetic pole setting on my scooter was set to '10' but the YT video used '15' for this and I went with the latter.
I usually take the Mantis to a bike & hike trail in my car. Even with the stem folded this critter will not fit in through the trunk. However it does fit nicely in to the back via the rear passenger doors. As for performance the twin motors provide crazy torque and near silent cruising. The hydraulic brakes are smooth and easy to modulate. Range seems excellent (but I weight a modest 146 pounds). The suspension is fine but I suspect that it would be more compliant if I was packing another 25 pounds or so.
In all the experience of dealing with FFR and the quality of the scooter are super fine indeed but I would add a cautionary note. I wiped out on one of my rides and earned some road rash and managed to put a nice dent in my helmet (the scooter was fine). Note the word 'helmet'. You will be wearing one, won't you? I expect to face plant again as it comes with the territory and with that in mind I immediately bought a Fox Proframe full face helmet. If that dent in my first helmet had been in the area of my jaw, I would be looking at a few months of soup for breakfast, lunch, and diner.
Anyhow, thanks FFR and company for a great experience.”
“Added a handle bar extension, a electric horn, a extra led light to front and back (red neck style attachment), a storage case and phone for phone. Wished the Mantis Pro had an integrated USB port....”
“The Kaabo Mantis Pro is a fast and capable scooter that has good range and able to go up all the inclines I've encountered with relative ease. The EY3 from Minimotors has a lot of configurable features such as torque, electric (regenerative) brake sensitivity, start mode, auto off, as well as a few others.
A few reviews list some manufacturing quality control issues, to include: power port, screws, other severe and some not so severe issues. Issues that I've had were: hydraulic break required manual readjustment, rubber cover being deformed and not fitting, a front fender screw falling out, incorrect setting for motor magnetic pole setting, and e-brake signal line sensitivity issues.
The e-brake would stay on even after releasing the rear brake lever. This in turn would prevent the throttle lever from allowing the scooter to move. After troubleshooting on my own, I discovered that the e-brake line (feeding into the rear brake housing) was screwed in too much. Firmly pulling the e-brake cable away from the housing caused the signal to clear.
Overall I'd give the scooter a 4 / 5, due to manufacturing quality control issues.
After reaching out to fluidfreeride, they verified the e-brake sensitivity fix (which were the steps I had performed already), answered my questions in regards to EY3 settings, and are currently sending out replacement parts (hopefully to include the rubber cap on the power and some additional front fender screws).
I'd give fluidfreeride a 5 / 5 for responsiveness so far and have been working with me to help resolve issues.
P.S. I also own the Mosquito sold by Fluidfreeride as well. I will post a separate review for that one.”
