How are the Handle and Fittings?
The saya is extremely tight when katana is sheathed. Takes allot of effort to unsheath it & it’s causing some damage to the habaki. Menuki color was not as expected given the picture provided when selecting. Fuchi & kashira came in already partially discolored. Still a fine piece & I will be getting another. The Swordis website offers the tsuba, habaki & fuchi with kashira as individual selection options. Other websites have the four together in a pack thus limiting the full custom experience. Thank you for your work.

My son wanted to customize a katana. I was very skeptical and wary of sites that would steal his savings. I was still nervous when we placed our order but the katana we received was well made and exactly how my son wanted it. We are so pleased that my husband would like to customize his own katana too.

The habaki gap in my wakizashi is large enough to easily fit a credit card on each side. Don't pick the hira zukuri shape because the off-the-shelf habaki they use is for the thicker shinogi zukuri cross shape so there is a huge gap for hira zukuri. Everything else is good. The handle smells kind of bad (oil/chemicals).

Overall the sword is great. They even worked with me to change my saya after the order was in process.

The sword seemed to be high quality. I’m not an expert, but it was sharp enough for me, and I didn’t see any flaws.

Ordered this blade after watching a review of a similar Hanbon sword featuring the same polish and double bohi, but with different fittings. The blade immediately caught my attention. Ordering a custom sword through Swordis turned out to be a truly enjoyable and surprisingly easy experience. Their website makes it simple to choose exactly what you want — with clear, detailed photos of all fittings, tsuka-ito options, sageo colors, blade geometries, and saya finishes. It almost feels like ordering a pizza with your favorite toppings — in the best possible way. When placing my order, Swordis continuously updated me on how different customization options would affect production and delivery time. The estimated delivery date turned out to be perfectly accurate, and the communication throughout was excellent. The blade arrived very well packed, and Swordis notified me as soon as it was shipped. For the price range, this Hanbon blade is genuinely impressive. I ordered a slightly longer and beefier blade, but added a double bohi for both balance and aesthetics. The polish is beautifully done — clean lines, tight hada, and an overall look that feels refined and well-executed. Hanbon really feels like an underdog in this industry; their craftsmanship easily rivals brands in a higher price tier. One of Hanbon’s biggest strengths is the variety and quality of their fittings. The ones I received matched the product photos perfectly — crisp, well-cast, with a fine matte finish. The habaki fits flawlessly, with no gaps between blade and collar, and the blade seats in the saya securely without touching the wood. For the tsuka, I chose Japanese silk ito with hishigami. The wrap is tight, the samegawa is of decent quality, and the transitions between fuchi and kashira are smooth without bulky edges. My only minor complaint is that the ito color looked darker green in the pictures, but in real life it’s lighter — still excellent quality, just not the same tone. The saya is slightly bulkier than on some other brands, but the lacquer quality is much nicer — smooth, clean, and almost free of micro-scratches. The horn work at both koiguchi and kojiri is neatly finished. Overall, this has been a very satisfying purchase and absolutely worth the money. The entire experience with Swordis — from customization to delivery — was one of the easiest and most professional ordering processes I’ve had for a custom blade. Thank you to Swordis for a great experience.

Typically I don’t even leave reviews anywhere but hey, out of all swords I’ve ever owned, my custom Katana from Hanbon Forge is the absolute best I’ve ever had. I usually get cheap made Chinese Katanas from malls and what not they really don’t compare to what I got from this site. If you’re reading this, I can promise you, you won’t be dissatisfied or disappointed.
