The World Record School kit has been awesome to do with my Year 3s this term. They have really gotten into the measuring and recording of their records. If we had a bit more time it would have been awesome to do a statistical activity with the record data that we collected.

What a wonderful resource. Students were fully engaged and we had lots of lively discussion about World Records. The formula was extremely helpful and my students are beginning to use superlatives in their daily writing which is a huge bonus. Research into World Records occurred frequently with some students sharing their findings during daily sharing time - oral language has been improved and some students have taken 'safe' risks that they otherwise might not have taken. One student wanted to climb a tree to halfway and down again as quick as he could. By watching him, we quickly found out that tree-climbing was a new skill for him. The other students encouraged and supported him and he finish his DIY World Record attempt a very happy and proud lad. A great boost to his confidence and self-esteem.

With 3 kits across 3 classes in a year 7/8 syndicate we had 89 children/students create a world record. They were able to use their mathematical language to explore fair and statistically accurate world records that could be repeated after researching and the banner activities. They loved the challenge of completing the world records as a syndicate and getting outside to try their best. Their banners are displayed in our collaborative classroom and have taken pride of place. I think this is something they will absolutely want to revisit and retest!

Four year 2 classes spent a couple of afternoons playing Record Breakers! Due to their age we (the teachers) decided to write the challenges. We had a great time, with children cheering and supporting their peers or working together in collaborative group challenges. There was enough variety to suit our sporty competitive children mixed in with maths and some silly challenges. We have done this kit several times as the children want to keep doing it!!

It's wonderful to see learners motivated and engaged in learning. Beautifully connects with the values we hold (resilience, relationship, respect and responsibility). We tied in with our maths curriculum, measurement and statistics, by measuring all their scores, gathering data, and displaying them!
