This kit is a hit with the children and we end up with lots of oohs and aahs. It encourages the children to fair test and be creative with flavours. We love the ingredients you supplied but it was also great for the children to brainstorm and come up with their ideas. They also spoke with their whanau to gather their thoughts on what they could use. It encouraged teamwork, communication and collaboration.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I liked the little chemical experiments we got to do at home and school. The baking was fun, I didn't think we could use vegetables to replace some of the ingredients we use for baking at home.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? This activity can be used at home as a way to promote healthy eating. A little competition can be made to see what other recipes the family could come up with using these substitute.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Parents tired from work and eating whatever food is provided by them. Sometimes it's too late especially with students having sports or other school curricular activities after school.
I enjoyed using the school kit in making our vegetable cake. The lesson plan provided in this pack helped my students to understand chemical reactions. Those little activities solidified their theories before and after their baking. This unit linked in so well with our term inquiry and although it was chaotic in the kitchen all the mistakes that went with prepping the cake were teaching moments for us. So when it came to the second round of baking, the students were more prepared.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them "When can we do this again?" was a common refrain.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The instructions were very clearly set out but offered scope for my own 'twist' on the learning outcome.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Cooking at school? The children will remember this for a while.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom? While I didn't make this my focus, we had a number of learning conversations about how easy it is to 'veggie-fy' some common food items we all like- like cakes, muffins and pizza. For a few weeks afterwards some children share that their snake had X veggie added to 'make it more healthy' so i guess the message did get through.

What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? In our community, minimal barriers. We are lucky.
I used this kit with my class primarily as a 'hands on' front load lesson exploring fractions. While the children were excited to be making food, I noticed many of them watching their peers who were measuring 1/2, 1/4 and 1/8ths, and helping out when (or when not!) needed. I was pleased that this kit held the children's attention and offered practical opportunities to see that, when we break a whole apart, what's left are still fractions of the whole.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Interesting how much maths is involved in baking. I really enjoyed getting to do the baking, I didn't realise so much learning was going to be involved.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? We talked a lot about how they can changed up the baking that their parents do at home to make it more healthy through what they learnt while suing the kit.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Cost and their parents not wanting to
The kit was great. Our students loved getting involved with the maths and baking. It required them to think about what was in their cake for taste and to support the texture.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? We always share the recipes we undertake in class, and we let whānau know about what's going on in class so it can spark discussions.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? For a lot of families it's about being time poor. Another reason we encourage students to take on these challenges so that they can help.
Another great resource, it was wonderful for the children to see how they can make healthy choices and still have treats. This tied in nicely with a project they undertook last year to encourage more fruit and vegetable consumption.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? When it becomes embedded in the ākonga. Using resources from our own kitchen is so valuable.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Taste, texture, trying something new.
What a fun, practical and real world learning package this was. Having two ākonga unpack, organise, order the ingredients was such a wonder to see as they really thought hard of the structure, timings and the organisation. Teh tip to make sure the veggies were really cut finely was a pearler! Thanks again.
