Kia ora! This unit had the whole class engaged and interacting with each other and their learning. Some loved the maths aspects, others shone in the digital activities. The range of cross-curricular activities scaffolded my learner's knowledge and understanding. No one was keen to add vegies to their cake. They were all surprised that the substitute cake tasted good. The review sessions were always fun, they got right into rating their cake. I enjoyed listening to their conversations about the chemical changes that happened, their faces when they noticed the air pockets / bubbles, malliard reaction etc.

What a fantastic way to engage students in a variety of cross-curricular focuses. We loved doing this throughout 5 sessions. Each session consisted of a discussion, planning and then creating our cakes using the information that was collected. There were some amazing, weird and wacky cakes created. What a blast!
