How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? There was a discussion about doing stewed apples from the leftovers from the school lunches and then we collect old glass jars to store an giveaway.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Fresh is expensive and it can still be cheaper to buy some value brand biscuits premade cheaper than baking.
I've been doing this kit for a few years now and I'm still amazed how much it can change with my class according to their interests.

We enjoyed it. I like how it made the students think about what they were putting in the muffins. Some of the groups had some crazy recipes. It would have been good to have more experiments to do leading up to making the muffins to make students learn about chemical change.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them Student 1 - My group added zuchinni and carrot into our cake. We weren't too sure about zuchinni but our teacher told us we wouldn't even know it was in there and we didn't. We could only taste the carrot but it was so yum. Student 2 - We tried to change

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? Baking healthier versions of food they already know and love just by adding healthy alternatives - savoury and sweet
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Cost of vegetables and fruit, parent influence
Both my students and I loved this kit - it would have to be one of my favourites yet! I had some very reluctant students who were very apprehensive to add vegetables to their cake so we also included bananas as one of our substitute ingredients. The kids loved working in small groups and learning about baking cakes while trialling different substitute ingredients to change their cakes up. It was also an awesome way for those who hadn't baked at home before to have a go.

Please provide 2+ examples of student voice on the kit's impact on them I didn't think I liked beetroot but when it was hidden in a cake as a sugar substitute it was delicious. This was so much fun! I didn't think it would still taste this nice when I made the cake healthier.
Which kit components were the most impactful and why? The ratio and substitutions in the baking brought in some great maths.
What is the legacy this kit will leave behind on your learners? Try new food in their baking.
How effective was this kit in promoting healthy food in your classroom? They are more aware that baking will still taste nice without as much sugar. However, I am not sure too many will choose to substitute at home unfortunately.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? More recipes and ideas for them to take home and try at home
This school kit was highly engaging to the children. Any learning with food seems to have a special ability to hook kids in and this one didn't fail. Many even used the base recipe and made their own at home. It was easy to follow and I really appreciated that I was able to do some baking and have some fun with food and it didn't come out of my own pocket for a change (thank you). They were fascinated by substitution and we got a lot out of the kit. The kids were all very surprised that they still really enjoyed the cakes once beetroot was added.

How can the learning in the kit go beyond the classroom to improve whānau wellbeing? I think I would try to get in whanau as helpers and taste testers if I did this again. I think whanau were excited to see the learning on Seesaw.
What barriers do your students face to access healthy eating? Money, time to cook and knowledge.
My students and I loved this kit! Many students had not baked before, so there was a big learning curve. The healthy eating aspect of the kit, and the idea of putting vegetables in their cakes was challenging for many children, but they loved the opportunity to be creative and create their recipes. They tested their recipes, and we also had our DP come in as a blind taster. The kids were very excited to see how their recipes came out, and they were all very successful. This was great fun and I think the kids learned heaps!

Great for those who don't like veges. Good to use alongside healthy eating, instructional writing, measurement (maths) and science learning (all of which were a focus for us this term).
