“kentbuildingworks.co.uk rubbish, diabolical service. don't use this company. waited 2 weeks after the quote and contacted them everyday. no response. Turned down other builders to choose them and no communication. Don't ever bother with these guys. rubbish rubbish rubbish..... I would never recommend them in fact I would deter people from using them.”

“Daniel Ripley boiler and bathroom company Ossett Wakefield left a 77 year old woman living alone with a blocked drain and two holes through her bathroom wall, didn't get a reciet, invoice after paying £5000 for a 6ft by 6ft bathroom, he said he would sort but stopped answering the phone, came late every day turned up 10am sometimes 11am”

“Tried "grants heating and plumbing" several times. Obviously doesn't provide emergency cover.... Big....... Big mistake. Big refurbishment and replacement boiler would have been yours,.... However would never ever consider supporting this cowboy”

“Modern day vampires. Tried to cancel contract on several occasions and wouldn’t allow me. Then when it came to renewing we told them no, only to be told it’s a rolling contact and we owe another full year. Be aware these are the cowboys in our industry. Stay well clear”

“Ken from KDS Plastering and Damp Proofing LTD came out to view a damp patch on aoutside wall he told me what was causing the problem and how he would remedy the problem Ken was very professional tuned up on tme did the work kept me informed every step of th way clean and tidy polite even came back day after to check everything was ok would defintely recommend Ken and this company”

“Checkatrade was taken over by a very dodgy insurance company called Homeserve. Homeserve - we couldn't care less about. Very much look forward to them trying to sue us. Very very dodgy insurance company. Last year, July 2022, Checkatrade took out of our account, as so many of other tradesmen mentioned, £2,900. We cancelled our Direct Debit, because they should have never taken that amount and they broke the Direct Debit Mandate that they signed up to. They are supposed to give 3 days notice before they change the Direct Debit. When they were challenged on this, they ran away, never came back to us for 3 months. They cancelled our membership on December 9th, but we already made it very clear that we were going to leave them in July. They employed a very dodgy Solicitor firm called Shoosmiths Solicitors, who sent the Court letters to a different address, not to us but to themselves, acting as if they were representing us. As we never received the paperwork, they automatically applied for Judgment for £8,000. The fools Shoosmiths Solicitors spent over 500.00 to act dodgily in the Courts. The funny is we never paid them anything and to all the other tradesmen, do not pay a singe penny. Shoosmiths have been struck off so many times by the Regulator, but they keep on changing their company names, hence why Homeserve (Vetted ltd/Checkatrade) use them. Checkatrade offers a 3 months free trial to new tradesmen because Checkatrade is not working. You don't offer free trials if you are a successful business. Then they tie you up for 12 months when you try to leave. A very dodgy company. We left Checkatrade last year, best thing we ever did. Extremely dodgy company. Homeserve have altered the algorithm to benefit themselves and Checkatrade, their own company, which totally goes against tradesmen. We look forward to Homeserve/ Vetted ltd/Checkatrade and Shoosmiths Solicitors trying to sue us, totally corrupt companies that constantly have to change their names (Shoosmiths).”

“Checkatrade renew my subscription automatically back 2020 we cancel the subscription now taking me to court. They integrity after taking over from a family business. We have been told that only handful in the area will be vetted they Tsking anyone anything…”

“I needed some roofing work done last year, and advertised the job on Checkatrade. A roofer contacted me and came to see the roof quickly. He gave ma a very reasonable quote for the work and I accepted it on the spot. He arranged to do the work the following week. So far so good! But when he arrived to do the work, he said he'd have to charge more (from the original quote of £1200, it went up to over £6000) as the work was more complex than he originally thought. He said I'd have to decide on the spot as his crew were already there. We went elsewhere, the job was done very well, for only a little more than this roofer's original quote. I tried to write this review via Trustpilot, but they put so many obstacles in the way because they're paid by Checkatrade (as Checkatrade are paid by their workpeople - so there's every incentive for both companies to refuse to publish any negative reviews). I will not trust Checkatrade or any similar company again.”

“Have tried using them a number of times. Told that people are interested and either never make contact or send one email then never reply. The only time someone came he charged £380 for doing what turned out to be hardly any garden work. Annoyingly we still get leaflets through our door advertising their services”

“MPH Drainage, Castleford. Advertised as local but in a different county. Charged travelling time. Bought goods on account from Jewson (so would have got a discount) then added a 22.5% mark up on the full price. Charged £190.20 per hour labour. Cost nearly £3k for a day and half work with little materials cost. Complained to company who think the charges are acceptable. Complained to Checkatrade in April and after numerous emails & telephone calls, they now tell me that the company have not responded to them but they have done nothing wrong so won't break the affiliation. MPH will continue to pay a fee to affiliate to Checkatrade & the public will continue to be ripped off. Avoid!!!!!! Checkatrade endorsement is therefore useless.”
