“We are trades people and the way we have been treated by check a trade is an absolute disgrace I would never recommend them to anyone They don't even ask there trades people if they qualified to do the properly Just avoid them at all cost whether your a trade or customer”

“I needed a new computer installed and any documents transferred from old to new computer. I was wary at first being as I live alone and had just come out of hospital. I needn't have worried as Mark was very down to earth and friendly. He obviously knew what he was doing, unlike previous so called computer experts, going by a similar name. He didn't make me feel like a complete idiot and gave his personal advice, but only if asked. This is the second time I have used him, which speaks volumes. The first I was unable to write a review due to lots of hospital appointments. I definitely intend using him again. He runs a punctual and confidential service and the pricing which was very fair, was made clear before he commenced. He runs a Mobile computer Repair Service In Your Home, called Southern P C Doctor. “Never had such awful workmen turn up just glad we have a large dog, one walks in looks said we didn't have the right parts and offered to do the job x4 of the price others quoted. It made me realise I can do better myself. Would avoid this site”

“Made the mistake of paying cash and not checking work. 4 items in bathroom Radiator, instead of searching in bathroom for new rad valves they used old ones on new rad we installed. Toilet leaks over new floor upon flushing. Basin leaks, tap ever so slightly moved, all untested as I was the one who turned the valves and pressurised the tap. Bath, not level, panel doesnt fit 1 end. Bath Waste leaks. Taps not aligned. They had to drill the holes. Basically I'm going to rip it all out and start again. Not sure Checkatrade are worth bothering with. They are just a cash cow for unscrupulous traders who wouldn't get recommended. Once bitten twice shy.”

“AVOID AT ALL COSTS IF YOU ARE A TRADESMAN. My partner closed his business to start a new venture last year so no longer needed checkatrade for his old business (£180 pm) they told him he was in a contract and could not leave but could go on the lowest tariff at £35 pm and then they would cancel when his contract ended - he has made several phone calls since and made it very clear he wanted to leave when his contract was up. They have renewed it without his knowledge, no letter, no email - apparently they tried to call but no voicemail left they have also said there is nothing logged to say he has contacted them at all, even though he must have to lower his tariff!! The contract renewed today and now he has to commit to paying £35 pm for another year! He said he would cancel the direct debit to be told they will take him to small claims court 🤬. We are a family of 6 and it is difficult times I think this is absolutely abhorrent behaviour and they should be disgusted with themselves!! I'm not surprised to see all the 1 star reviews if I could I wouldn't even give them the 1! CHECKATRADE ARE THE TRUE COWBOYS!”

“Constant harassment from checkatrade only enquiry about signing up and after speaking with somebody and agreeing it wasn’t suitable for my business. I have had nothing but call backs every week from them even after I told them to take me off their system. Emails. Then texts. Nothing but harassment.”

“Checkatrade has changed. They force things on you, the contracts are a con. Then I've had really abusive experiences and reported it. Even had racist experience that Checkatrade supported it was unbelievable in 2023, the police took my side when reported but checkatrade even with evidence said the customer can do what they like and they allow it.”

“Checkatrade was taken over by a very dodgy insurance company called Homeserve. Homeserve - we couldn't care less about. Very much look forward to them trying to sue us. Very very dodgy insurance company. Last year, July 2022, Checkatrade took out of our account, as so many of other tradesmen mentioned, £2,900. We cancelled our Direct Debit, because they should have never taken that amount and they broke the Direct Debit Mandate that they signed up to. They are supposed to give 3 days notice before they change the Direct Debit. When they were challenged on this, they ran away, never came back to us for 3 months. They cancelled our membership on December 9th, but we already made it very clear that we were going to leave them in July. They employed a very dodgy Solicitor firm called Shoosmiths Solicitors, who sent the Court letters to a different address, not to us but to themselves, acting as if they were representing us. As we never received the paperwork, they automatically applied for Judgment for £8,000. The fools Shoosmiths Solicitors spent over 500.00 to act dodgily in the Courts. The funny is we never paid them anything and to all the other tradesmen, do not pay a singe penny. Shoosmiths have been struck off so many times by the Regulator, but they keep on changing their company names, hence why Homeserve (Vetted ltd/Checkatrade) use them. Checkatrade offers a 3 months free trial to new tradesmen because Checkatrade is not working. You don't offer free trials if you are a successful business. Then they tie you up for 12 months when you try to leave. A very dodgy company. We left Checkatrade last year, best thing we ever did. Extremely dodgy company. Homeserve have altered the algorithm to benefit themselves and Checkatrade, their own company, which totally goes against tradesmen. We look forward to Homeserve/ Vetted ltd/Checkatrade and Shoosmiths Solicitors trying to sue us, totally corrupt companies that constantly have to change their names (Shoosmiths).”

“Said I can cancel at any given time when I signed up, i called to cancel due to unforseen circumstances on the 16th day and now saying I can't. They have issued a £400+ bill and threatening me with legal action. Absolutely shocking behaviour Its a big trap”

“If your a trade don't sign up with them it's a trap ,I signed up done two jobs no problems and then I get locked out of my account tried contacting checkatrade about the problem which was almost impossible, still got bills from them even though I wasn't used g there service , and now I have bailiffs harrassing me for over a grand , so use checkatrade at your own risk”

“Stay well away from checkatrade weather you're a tradesmen or a homeowner, I joined checkatrade and its all been broken promises and lies and I've had no relevant leads for the work I'm looking for. Paying £100 a month for the lite membership which promises a minimum of 4 leads a month and its just wasted money. Also from a home owners point of view, one of the vetting questions I was asked when joining was "can you confirm that you have at least 6 month experience in your trade"? You can't learn any trade in 6 months, checkatrade is a con and they literally let anyone join! Stay away!”

“I've been a member of Checkatrade for over 10 years it used to work well for my company until they let the rogue traders ion the site something the said they would never do , i used to spend over a £1000 a month with websites and leaflet drops but i refuse to be associated with National companies ripping people off ! the worse thing is as they are National they build up reviews much quicker so its taken me 10 years to get 1500 reviews because i can only get them local these companies already have taken over me within 1 year surely they should only be able to show the reviews in the area they cover i.e if someone put in a trade in Portsmouth there Portsmouth reviews should only show not reviews in Liverpool total joke really my spend now has come down from £1000 per month to £150 per month and even that i think now is too much real shame but i guess money talks ?”
