“Paul from Appliance Repair Man, who I called yesterday, as the hinges on my freezer had broken and I could not shut my freezer door. Paul said that he would check out stock of the hinges as they were Bosch and would call me back the next day. He was as good as his promise and called me today saying that he had the brackets and would fit them today, which he did. What a lovely man and what a good work ethic he has. I would definitley recommed him and will use him again when I have any need to. Paul's ID is 508408 - thank you so much Paul.”

“Obtained a plumber through checkatrade. Plumber fitted new bathroom that leaks so badly kitchen ceiling has come down. Still trying to chase the plumber directly and through checkatrade. Useless. Wouldn’t trust checkatrade any further than I could throw them.”

“Foolishly thought that 'Checkertrade' meant they check traders credentials and publish unbiased reviews. Appears they only publish positive reviews and delete anything that may show their advertising traders in a bad light. This site is just a website promoting businesses. Checkatrade won't publish negative reviews as it impacts their revenue. Lesson learnt. Word of mouth is best.”

“A Disappointing Experience with Checkatrade - Beware! I recently had the displeasure of using Checkatrade, and I feel compelled to warn others about my experience with this company. What initially seemed like a promising platform turned out to be nothing more than a scam. Despite their assurances of providing numerous job opportunities and a valuable service, I quickly discovered that Checkatrade is owned by Homeserve, and it appears that they reserve the best jobs for themselves. The jobs I was offered through the platform were low-quality and undesirable. It became evident that many large businesses using Checkatrade only pay for the lowest membership tier to have their name listed, rather than utilizing the platform for actual job opportunities. When I realized I wasn't getting value for my money, I encountered further issues. Even if Checkatrade is in default of the agreement, they will aggressively pursue any outstanding payments, resorting to underhanded tactics like sending letters to the wrong address to secure a default court win. They employ an unscrupulous company called Shoosmiths to carry out these actions, and you may even face high court enforcement officers. The entire ordeal is incredibly stressful. Moreover, if you miss payments or have a paperwork query due to their own administrative errors, Checkatrade will freeze your account but still continue to charge you monthly fees. In my case, when I initially signed up and tried to go live on the platform, they took my money but failed to activate my account for weeks, citing a clerical error. Communication with their customer service was a nightmare; the representatives were unhelpful and seemingly uninformed. Overall, I would advise against using Checkatrade. There are better alternatives out there, such as Yell, that offer a more reliable and professional service. Save your time, money, and sanity by avoiding this company”

“Was a member, was overcharged initially as a member , also promised an Amazon voucher. Phoned to cancel & emailed. Checkatrade decided to ignore both and “auto renew” my membership. Put a pause on my membership and they still charged me the full amount, complained and they agreed that they had over charged me but then did it again. It’s all one big scam. Avoid at all costs.”

“Please spell check and grammar If I could give a one star review I would. I have been with this company 7 year’s advertising and after someone online saying they had been over charged I then looked at my dd. It had gone up to £480 pcm so I called them up and asked them for a breakdown. This happened numerous times of them lying and that they would send a invoice over or that I have been over charged and I will be refunded. I eventually told them that I will cancel the direct debit as I wasn’t given an answer. A few months later I get a letter off solicitors saying they are taking me to court. I had never signed any agreement since I started either and then they carried on charging me and now are threading court. Each time I call the office I waste over 1 hour of my life. They don’t vet the trades and half of them on the site are cowboys, they just want to take your money every month and when you ask what it’s for it’s impossible to get an answer. If you’re a tradesman stay away from these guys for advertisement shocking back end office and systems in place. DO NOT USE”

“I was conned on the phone into joining Checkatrade. I have had no work and am now threatened with court action for wanting to leave this company as it's a one year verbal contract. Avoid at all cost. This scammers are appalling and should be banned.”

“Awful! I was mis-sold something over the phone that turned out to be very different in practise I stated i wasn't happy but they didn't want to know. Once they think they've tied you in that's it... I got no support, no jobs,nothing.. So i am now going to court because how can i be expected to pay for something I haven't used?? It would be like Netflix chasing me for a years membership if i cancelled... Balls to them I am willing to see this out because it's criminal. They promise the earth on the phone yet the service isn't what I got therefor I shouldn't be expected to pay... simple”

“A WEEK AGO THIS REVIEW WOULD HAVE BEEN 5 STARS, BUT I FEEL I MUST WARN ANYONE WHO IS THINKING OF JOINING CHECK-A-TRADE, TO THINK WISELY. WE HAVE BEEN LOYAL MEMBERS, STICKING TO RULES, AND BANKED MULTIPLE 10 OUT OF 10 REVIEWS, IN FACT, WE DID NOT EVEN HAVE 1 BAD REVIEW OVER THE PAST 14 MONTHS, WE SPENT INTO THE THOUSANDS OF POUNDS ON EMBROIDERED UNIFORM, TSHIRTS, JACKETS, HOODIES, RAIN COATS,MALE, FEMALE, VAN WRAPPING, ALL WITH CHECK-A-TRADE LOGO'S. 3 DAYS AGO I RECIEVED AN EMAIL STATING WE HAD BEEN REPORTED AS COLD CALLING BY AN ANONYMOUS PERSON, SO THEY ARE TERMINATING MY MEMBERSHIP WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, REVOKING ALL AFFILIATE RIGHTS, AND WE'RE TO REMOVE ALL LOGOS FROM OUR WEBSITE, UNIFORM, VANS ETC ETC ETC...NOW MY PARTNER IS A 20 YEAR VETERAN OF THE MET POLICE, IM MORE THAN AWARE OF RULES AND REGULATIONS, AND WE HIRE AN 18 YEAR BOY TO "POST" LEAFLETS THROUGH DOORS, SO I CALLED CHECK-A-TRADE, AS ONE COULD IMAGINE, A COMPLETE OVERHAUL OF EVERYTHING WOULD COST IN THE THOUSANDS TO REMOVE & REPLACE, SO SURELY, THERE MUST BE SOME FORM OF PROOF THAT WE HAVE BEEN DOING THIS, SO I GOT THROUGH, SPOKE TO A TEENAGER, WHO WAS AT HOME, READ THE EMAIL HE HAD ON THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF HIM, AND ROBOTICALLY SAID ITS AGAINST OUR POLICY TO COLD CALL, I EXPLAINED THIS WAS WRONG, AND THAT WE WERE POSTING LEAFLETS, HE SAID IVE SENT AN EMAIL TO MY MANAGER, AND WILL CALL YOU BACK IN THE MORNING...NOBODY CALLED, MY PROFILE WAS DELETED, EVERY ONE OF THE REVIEWS I AND MY TEAM WORKED TIRELESSLY FOR !!! I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT TRUST A TRADER ARE AWARE OF MALICIOUS CALLS SUCH AS THE ONE THATS GOING TO COST ME £1,000.00s , AND TO COMBAT THIS, THEY ACTUALLY BUILD A CASE, ASK FOR SOLID PROOF, FOR EXAMPLE, VIDEO FOOTAGE OF A PERSON DOING THE DEED ITSELF, PRESENTING IT, WAYYYY BEFORE DELETING YOUR ACCOUNT AND EVERYTHING IN IT....I WASNT GOING TO EVER TOUCH A COMPANY SUCH AS THIS AGAIN, BUT KNOWING THAT TRUST A TRADER WILL ACTUALLY DO SOME BASIC CUSTOMER CARE CALLS, AND INVESTIGATIVE MEASURES, BEFORE CUTTING YOU OFF AT THE KNEES FOR SOMETHING THAT NEVER HAPPENED...WELL I HAVE NO CHOICE...I WILL HAVE MY ADMIN LADYS SPREAD THIS THROUGHOUT SOCIAL MEDIA PLATFORMS TO RAISE TGIS AWARENESS, AND REALLY TO WARN PEOPLE OF THE RAMIFICATIONS OF SIGNING UP WITH THIS COMPANY....WHO BY THE WAY DID ABSOLUTELY NO CHECKS ON MY COMPANY WHATSOEVER, NOR DID THEY CALL AND CUSTOMERS TO CHECK QUALITY OF WORKMANSHIP BEFORE ALLOWING ME TO BE REGISTERED AS A "CHECKED AND VERIFIED COMPANY"....SO THE WHOLE THING HAS BEEN ONE LARGE MONEY MAKING TRANSACTION FOR THEM, ONLY TO FINISH WITH A MASSIVE BLOW FINANCIALLY FOR MY COMPANY. I FLEW YOUR FLAG FOR OVER A YEAR, SPREADING GOOD WORD ABOUT YOU, AND ADVERTISED YOUR COMPANY FOR YOU, WHILE PAYING YOU! YOU SHOULD BE NAMED AND SHAMED FOR THE CROOKERY IN WHICH YOU TWLL THE GENERAL PUBLIC THAT YOU CHECK COMPANIES, WHEN YOU ACTUALLY ONLY CHECKED THAT I HAD A PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE IN PLACE BEFORE PUTTING ME ON YOUR BOOKS, AND HOUNDING ME FOR MONTHS TO UPGRADE TO THE ULTIMATE TRADESMAN ACCOUNT. WHICH BELIEVE IT OR NOT, I WAS ABOUT TO DO, TO UTILISE YOUR LEADS. .. THANKS FOR NOTHING "CHECK-A-TRADE" !”

“I had 4 years of hell home improvements most via checkatrade and checkatrade smiling, who cares eh. The tick you cannot trust! I ended up writing a book about it, I was so stressed! I called the book the cowboy hounds, unfortunately by law I am not allow to name and shame, but they read it with one of their people even posting a bad review about my book though they have not purchased so not read it.”

“On joining Checkatrade you will be promised the earth but in reality will receive very little. Checkatrade’s answer is always to speak to one of there advisers who will always try to sell you different areas at crazy prices or to pay extra to have an advantage. They always talk about fair competition and doing the right thing but again in reality they really do fall very very short. You are tied into a contract and are made to see out the contract even if you receive very little or no responses. You can ask them if your ad is ok and they will reassure you that you have a great add. Next it will be you need more reviews so you get loads of reviews from jobs and still no change. Last word rip off, con, day light robbery or any other negative you can think of. Please please think twice. If I can help one person not to make the same huge Checkatrade mistake then I am a happy man Date of experience: 01 February 2023”

“Scammers Scammers! Stay away!!!! After being missold a contract to me offering jobs starting from 1K mark, discounts as a trader, i got into a contract paying £175 monthly fee yet its already 2 months and i had not even 1 single job. Everytime i complained, they kept offering me new things but none become true. The last manager i spoke to (Richard) offered me 1 month free as an apology but again that was a lie, they still took the money from my account. Keep away. These people only take your money. You will not get any jobs. They are well trained to make lies and they dont stick to anything they say apart from forcing to keep you in contract! Do not get fooled like me!!! İm a trader! There is no real genuine jobs!”

“I urge any trades man thinking of joining checkatrade to avoid them at all costs they take your money give u very poor leads and throw u of there site for one customer compliant I have been with them for five years and just had my membership cancelled after one customer compliant. STAY CLEAR AND AVOID AT ALL COST THE MONEY THEY CHARGE NOT WORTH IT.”

“I emailed twice EARLIER THIS YEARS STATING i DO NOT WANT TO RENEW MEBERSHIP Today I received an email stating my membership is renewed and I have have 24 hrs to cancel, I discovered the email on Sunday afternoon, which had been sent to me on Thursday 4 days before. The email sdted i have 24 hrs to cancel from once the email is recieve, if i go over this time period, then that means my membership will renew by default. SCAM SCAM SCAM STAY AWAY.”
