“Absolute rubbish... Been with them from their conception... they failed to take a payment from my account and soon the debt collection letters arrived. This has now happened twice. One this occasion to have my account reinstated they want me to commit a brand new 12 month contract. Or the debt collectors will pursue me for the remaining contract payment... get stuffed.”

“I saw a company advertising on their website, with glowing reviews. All good I thought. So I checked on Companies House to find about them, but they were dissolved and only been around for less than 2 years. Warning bells went off in my head, a sign of cowboy outfits can be short-lived companies - who can claim against a company that no longer trades, right? Anyway, I wrote to checkatrade who wouldn't explain. Just said it was 'complicated'. So I will avoid using anyone on this website. Oh, this is the second time I've written about this, so I guess reviews.io are being leaned on to have the review removed. Am happy to supply reviews.io with proof so they don't become another review company who is biased towards the company and are someone we, customers can rely on.”

“This crowd are absolutely awful. I emailed twice prior to my renewal date staying I did not want to renew for another twelve months. Today I received an email with an invoice attached for £146.40. they do not recognise anything in writing and insist you can only cancel over a phone conversation. After a five minute conversation, it was concluded there is nothing I can do and have to fulfill my twelve month subscription despite having written confirmation that I did not wish to. Any tradesperson thinking of joining, believe me it is such a waste of money.”

“Checkatrade we caught you out AGAIN ….. how many more times and chances do we have to give you wrong uns! What you have done is like catching a member of staff with there hand in the till Trying to sneakily take an extra £135pm without any notice or communication. (Tut Tut) You are nothing more than low life chancers trying to leach of a company that have shown you nothing but loyalty for over 8 years. We explained your underhand behaviour to our bank and within seconds agreed with us and have agreed to get our money back. Worryingly they also stated “for our own protection they have cancelled the direct debit” I may be wrong but for a bank to act that quick and make a comment like that I tend to think I’m not the only one you have tried to sneakily try to scam . Well your low life behaviour is nothing more than blatant fraud, what’s worse if you do this to trades that have lined your pockets with thousands and thousands of pounds over the years, what would you do to a customer, Maybe I’m just being cynical but I don’t trust you and I wouldn’t trust your guarantee like I said your Wrong Uns Protect customers from cowboys lol your the biggest cowboy out there if I’m wrong why is there a Facebook group set up by trades all with horrific stories to talk about the way you have treated them You say reviews are posted good or bad on members profiles so if that’s the case you won’t delete this and let others read how you treat your paying members. 🤠💰”

“I’ve been with checkatrade as a tradesman for 10 years now and missed a payment on my account over Christmas. Get a phone call 6 weeks after. Then a week later sending a solicitors letter demanding I paid the next 10 mouth upfront and kicked off the site. Seen Homeserve took over they have gone down Hill. Only interested in the money and not the tradesman. When the other owner was there they would phone you monthly , text you and evening send a letter. Which they done do any more. But happy to take £168 per mouth. Even when you have no work. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE ANYMORE. PLEASE DONT THORE FOR THE LIES. AND JOIN A DIFFERENT COMPANY LIKE KEVIN BYRNE NEW ONE.”

“Absolutely rubbish. Sent a rep that promised the earth and lied about the costs. Once the trial period ended they were billing me 8x what the rep said. However when you try to cancel they just repeat the same spiel about a 12 month contract and that I could have cancelled at the start. However I didn’t have a problem until 3 months later when they started taking extortionate amounts from me. Avoid at all costs. They never attempted to solve anything or listen to my concerns.”

“If your a tradesman stay away from checkatrade, all they want is your money and give you nothing in return. Just look at they negative reviews growing to answer what there really like. I been a tradesman for 20 years and have never worked with such a poor company, they encourage fake reviews to build your profile.”

“BEWARE SCAMMERS - I am a Tradesmen This Company is a scam for tradesmen and customers If you are a Tradesmen, keep well away from this company, they are mis selling their contracts, they sent a guy out to our company a shoddy salesmen, claimed he could get us 72 phone calls if we paid £1488 per month, I got two phone calls in a month, and loads of emails that were worthless. They even lied and changed our start date, they started the contract the day after we closed down over christmas then began blasting us with messages, no phone calls just messages, then told me after Christmas that those emails were classed as my 72 hits, they put out 50+ messages when our business was closed. We then told them we not happy with this contract your scamming us, they said or we will get it sorted, but never did. This company is a scamming company, if you notice all the bad reviews are coming from the tradesmen who have signed on, their good reviews are coming from the customers. THIS COMPANY IS A SCAMMING COMPANY FOR TRADESMEN AND NEEDS INVESTIGATING BY GOVERNMENT THESE LOT. You should know something is wrong when your a builder and they trying to force you into a contract to bind you in for a year. They don't provide you with the service they claim during sign up. This company needs investigating for fraud. If you are a customer beware, they are charging way over the odds when they are showing you price work from the tradesmen, everything is way over priced on their website and the customers don't realised they are being scammed, as the tradesmen have to charge those prices to pay off the bill to these scam artists. Worst company we have ever dealt with, they do not have a complaints department as they claim, the number goes straight through to salesmen. They have stole £1488 out of our account, we have been on the phone for 4 days repeatedly trying to speak to cancallation department, but they don't have one, they hide behind salesmen and don't answer so they can continue stealing money. Im at the point im going to take them to court and use all these reviews on this page for tadesmen as evidence to prove they are scamming the tradesmen using the same methods over and over. They know their system isn't working for tradesmen but they continue to use scammy salesmen who tell lies to get you roped into a contract. BEWARE OF THIS COMPANY!!!! THEY ARE SCAMMING PEOPLE!!!”

“Despite regular updates of the on going disaster that was our bathroom installation , including photographs, they refused to take any action. We pointed out that the tradesman was dishonest, posting a photo of an award that he displayed prominently despite not Winning it. They continued to support him until he disappeared owing over £200000 to customers and tradesmen. Too late and now we have problems that should be covered by guarantee if we could find him as well as a scorched carpet. Their endorsement is worthless.”

“Expensive and a trashy custom service!!!! As a family, we have been interested to open an account for my husband which is a tradesperson, and when I tried to gather more information, a very stupid male employed one (I would literally pay this one 0 pounds salary a lifetime for how he was speaking to us!!!) was trying to pretend that the huge costs for this company are actually amazing rates and that I am a stupid or something, and LITERALLY EVERY TIME when I have had a question or I was saying something (like in a normal conversation!!!?) this peraon was talking over me and saying that he can not talk to me because I have too many to ask? /??? I mean literally, I AM THE ONE PAYING FOR THE SERVICE?!?? .... A whole a lot of money.... And you try to insult me and to talk over me and NEVER answer to MY QUESTIONS?!??? Who is employing such people?!??? I literally had to close the conversation, as this one was aggressive and literally a piece of s@it!!!!!! NO FAMILY needs to deal with such men!!!!! Or service advisors or providers!!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!!”

“Do not trust the traders on this website at all. Nor the guarantee mark on it. Some traders will just charge you for a very bad job and then the guarantee would cover you nothing as they basically look for any excuse to avoid paying nothing.. I feel like I have been scammed here.”

“i just had CP Domestics come to fix my dishwasher in seaford he did a brilliant job and was so kind and chatty . he cleared up and left it all clean and tidy i would really reccommend this company and the secretary who did a lovely job in taking my messages. job done in quick time too...... The compkany do domestic appliance repairs...... claudine smith”

“Contacted 3 paving specialists, who, according to Checkatrade, were top of their field. No respnse from one. The second one messaged an hour before a site visit to cancel, have had a bunch of excuses since - but no estimate. The third turned up promptly, gave me a 'guesstimate' off the top of his head saying Id get everything in writing the day the job was started. When I looked on line for examples of the company's work, I found several newspaper articles detailing illegal involvement. I won't be using Checkatrade again.”

“Checkatrade have failed to post two negative reviews about companies that have done plumbing work for me found via checkatrade. They have simply ignored the reviews and not posting them rather than responding with any clarification or questions. Their ratings system for companies is not to be trusted.”

“I was with Check a trade soon after it was set up and was good at first giving me quite a lot of work, but then they were sold to Homeserve and my yearly fees doubled over night from £600 to £ 1250 per year and they took on so many new trades that my inquiries dried up too. I then left Check a trade and for over a year after i was pestered with various offers trying to get me rejoin,not a chance! They are to be avoided at all costs.”

“Does not deserve even one star. This company is a complete farce, the 'approved traders' are not vetted. One company in particular who we used were incorporated in March 2022 and yet their reviews on Checkatrade go back to 2017, how is this possible? The tradesman listed on Checkatrade was not competent and left the job is a worse state. Checkatrade is just a marketing site for tradesman, there's no guarantee that they will be competent. Do your own research before getting any tradesman to do any work, do not rely on Checkatrade!”
