“Using Anglian who's salesman used pressure selling tactics, is should be £22000 but with friends & family discount £7500 , outlawed many years ago, they have terrible reviews dating back year after year and checkatrader still have them on their site, this is supposed to be a site where folk can find reputable companies/traders, it's shocking, a disgrace it should be closed down. Folks ask your families or friends to recommend someone, it is much less risky than using these clowns.”

“I hired a roofer who miss-represented themselves as a family business with 20 years experience. However they sent a sub-contractor who had never done roofing before and botched all the work. They sent another person out but again, an unqualified sub-contractor and the work was botched, incomplete and broke a lot of tiles on my roof and used damaged materials instead of buying new. They failed to come back and remedy the work despite multiple assurances they would do so, and have not shown up. I found out the men who did the original work are no longer being used due to poor craftmanship- why was I sent people who could not do the job? When I go on checkatrade I expect the trader to be qualified and experienced, not some random bloke that feels like 'having a go' at the job. I've contacted checkatrade repeatedly regarding this matter a number of times over phone and email, emails have gone ignored. Last week I was promised a callback from the leadership team but never got one. It was very difficult to get through on the phone. I eventually spoke to somebody called Ryan who made lots of assurances and told me to file a guarantee claim and promised to send the info in an email but I am still waiting for that info to materialise. Still no callback from the leadership team and despite more empty promises to come back early this week the trader has still not come back to rectify the work, and no way to file a claim. I was also told the traders account manager was going to be contacted, no idea if that happened or not though. I am really upset and it seems I have no choice but to seek legal advice regarding checkatrade and the rogue trader they have allowed on their site. I am out £5,000 and the remedial work has been quoted at around £8,000- so will be out £13k... no small sum of money. And the rogue trader is still operating on the site with no attempt to remove them despite now being told they are just hiring inexperienced sub-contractors and are not real roofers as advertised. I have tried emailing the ceo address to escalate this matter but it appears he no longer works there and gives a bounce back email with no alternative contact.”

“Signed up as a trader and realised I didn’t need Checkatrade. Complete lies when trying to cancel. I was told my account auto renewed as if I was there for a year. Spoke to so many crooked people trying to entice me to stay by telling me I can’t cancel when I’m not even 24 hours in from my initial sign up. Terrible.”

“I needed an emergency locksmith so was unable to get a quote first. My back door would not lock. it took the man 4 hours to complete.My final bill was over £400 which I felt was excessive. I understand it is covered with free insurance for a year from now.”

“I have a flat roofing job done by SPECTRUM roofing and I am completely satisfied with their work. All you would want, nice guys, on time, cleared up well,all good. I recomend them. Taff Coulton”

“Found Master Drives construction ltd on Checkatrade, couldn't fault the company. Thrilled with their work. Punctuality and work ethic was great. Would recommend to anyone wanting patio built.”

“Hired a plasterer to skim my chimney breast. The finish is absolutely appalling. I'm devastated. I don't want him to come back to do it again, I just want it done properly so will have to wait to find a proper plasterer and will never be using checkatrade again. This is not my first checkatrade bad experience but will definitely be my last.”

“Tried Checkatrade a few times, no response from traders or failed to turn up. Includes a bathroom makeover, repointing, my opinion is that most cant be bothered to do any work that entails say around three days work. Best to search out a local tradesperson direct that has done good work for a neighbour or friend.”

“The roofing firm was sloppy and did not complete the work before going bust! They left Checkatrade soon after. All the workforce was subcontracted as the actual firm did not have its own workforce which, surely, Checkatrade should have verified before letting them onto their site.”

“Please DO NOT use Checkatrade if you are a tradesman or a consumer - loyal tradesman on their site for over 7 years and they cancel my membership due to a couple of grout holes and a psychotic customer. A very disloyal company.”

“Be careful, we advertised for over 2 years, we had coming up to 100 reviews. If you stop using check a trader you lose them all!!!!. Yet they say you need the reviews for check a trader to work. Watch out for customers using the check a trader process to not pay!!!”

“2 people promised to cut my smallish lawn. They promised to ring back. Unfortunately they never rang back and they didn't bother to turn up. Very annoying, unprofessional and very very disappointing. 🧐☹️🤨☹️🤔”

“Whatever you do don’t join this ruthless company or use them for any work around your home . We joined and three months later my personal and work life changed and I could not take any work through Scamatrade . I explained my circumstances and there still Harassing me for payments and threats of courts etc. They don’t do the checks on tradesmen which they claim they do so be careful who you invite into your home .”
