“We are in the process of renovating our kitchen. We contacted five companies, including Ace, for quotes. When we met with the craftsman from Ace two weeks ago. Joe was fantastic. We told him the cabinets will arrive 8/12, and countertops will be installed on 8/20. He said they could install the cabinets two days after delivery. He said because it's a small project, it would take one, maybe, two days for two guys. He explained the cost and payment options and said we'd receive a contract by email within three days. We decided to go with them even though we had two lower quotes (and one higher) because Joe was fantastic. He was knowledgeable, friendly, and seemed trustworthy. We were eager to work with him... and still would. It's with the company that we have an issue.
We did not receive a contract within three days. We reached out last week and were told there was an unexpected situation, but we'd receive it shortly. We're now ten days out from what was supposed to be our installation date. We just received the contract today. It is over $1200 higher than the original quote!
When we questioned it, we were told by someone at Ace that the price is accurate, and they won't negotiate. I hate to think poorly of anyone, but this very much seems like the textbook definition of low balling. They knew our deadlines, and it seems they waited just long enough to make it almost impossible for us to find someone else in time. However, we will find someone else. I'd rather delay every step of this project than to work with a company that seems questionable. I should have read all the reviews before contacting them because I see other people have had similar situations. I would give zero stars if I could. Buyer beware.”

“I was looking for a inflatable kiddie pool that I seen online to show it was in stock at Russellville AR store and when I showed up I asked the girl that worked there at the middle of the store counter desk where were the inflatable kiddie pools she said we don’t have none so I asked her but I’m showing you have them in stock right now and with a little bit of an attitude she said just because it’s showing that we have them in stock it doesn’t mean we have them so I said nothing just walked out. “I've always loved this store. Everybody is friendly & eager to help but on this nite when I needed a new head & string on my weedeater 2 associates went out of their way to help me. David & Kalyn didn't try to rush me out beings it was close to closing time & a Friday nite! Long story short there were complications since my machine is older not kept up but David stuck it out changed my head PLUS took extra time showing me how to restring on my own. I'm older & single so this all is an extra plus for me & very comforting to have available. I'm forever grateful for them & I've been looking for a self propelled push mower & bc of his knowledge & patience he'll prob be the person to sell 1 to me. “Never under any circumstances purchase anything from this corporation's website. I bought a Toro Mower a week ago (order #497679929) and, according to the information on their website, it was supposed to arrive at the local store on Friday. When I called the local store, they said they had no information and the truck with equipment sent from the warehouse was expected on Saturday. On Saturday, my order was not in the truck, and the local store said they knew nothing and couldn't help me. I called website customer service and was surprised to learn that they hadn't even attempted to ship my order and didn't know why this was happening. After my request to connect me with a supervisor, I waited 15 minutes only to find out that there are no supervisors on Saturdays. I have never in my life encountered a more inadequate and unreliable interface than this company's. The site doesn't load, there are endless errors, and it took 30-40 minutes just to place any order. Customer support has no idea about orders and can't even provide current information, let alone address more serious issues. The existing model of relationships with independent stores is obviously unsustainable, and I wouldn't be surprised if they go bankrupt. At the very least, the huge number of people complaining about their work even here will be spared from problems with a corporation that doesn't value its customers.”

“Ordered a Mr. Kool mini-split from ACE and only received one of the two cartons. It has been several months and I never received the outdoor carton. Had to order a different model from Amazon which arrived within two days complete. Meanwhile I'm out the cost ACE charged to my credit card and both ACE and Mr. Kool are not giving me my refund. The one carton I did receive from Mr. Kool is still in my garage.”

“The Ace in Okatie SC did not address the problem I had with the paint I purchased. The paint had a film on the top and had a texture when painted on the wall. When we spoke to the manager they were less than concerned with resolving the problem. Terrible lack of customer service!”
“I went to my local Ace Hardwear store to purchase some paint for a furniture project and ended up also buying several other items. I opened my paint and spent the next 2 hours painting an antique buffet. I noticed immediately that the paint didn’t look like the paint chip. However I thought it would probably dry differently. It did not dry the color of the chip. When I called the store the manager made several excuses as to why this was not their fault. Never at any time did she say that she was sorry this happened and to come back in so they could make it right. She hurled reasons such as lighting in my home, the fact that I probably picked the wrong color, the piece of furniture could have been too dark, etc. I asked if I could bring it back and have it corrected or replaced. Of course I still had the receipt since I had just purchased it. She told me to go ahead and bring it in but she couldn’t promise anything. I also had purchased a water hose that said soaker. I had no idea that the hose wasn’t a “regular” hose until I plugged it onto my faucet. I don’t garden and just need something to water a few water baskets. She said they would not take it back even with the receipt and packaging. She went so far as to insult me by saying that most people have the sense to know what a soaker hose it for. I was absolutely outraged at this point. I told her that I would not be shopping in her store going forward that I would go to Lowe’s or Home Depot where returns are gladly accepted and customers are treated in a respectful way that they want to spend money on their store. She laughed. I have never encountered such poor store management. This is the Davidson NC store. They have forever lost my business.”

I entered the store on Saturday morning 6/29, the store had just opened. The sale signs up in the store are reading 50% off everything!! While I was shopping they changed the sale signs to read only 30% off! What in the world is going on? I talked to the manager and he refused to give me the items for the original sale price of 50% off!
Also if you shopped out of this location on Friday, June 28th check your receipt because you probably didn’t get 50% off, because they charged the price in the computer but NOT in the store, !!!

“The price of a red wagon we just purchased from Elders Ace hardware was almost double what it cost anywhere else. I was sick that day and had just come from walk in clinic to get it and drop it off at my great granddaughter birthday party. My granddaughter had a fit said I should have gone somewhere else in Cleveland. I have always shopped at ace hardware but this is the last time. Bird feed, plants, mulch, planters, everything there is now approximately double what it is at Tractor supply, Lowe’s, even Home Depot. Ace hardware , you have lost a loyal customer. I checked prices on things a regularly purchase there. Good quality but prices are the worst in this town. It won’t be long until you are out of business here.”
