“Will never buy from Arnold clark again very long story but has brought a car from them in May 19 plat so 3 years old within 3 days I had to phone as air con was not working and drive shaft was broke which lead to a gear box change too as the drive shaft had burnt out gear Box they had my car for 7 weeks at this point I had only had this car for 2 weeks if that ! Luckily it was still under watentee however since having it back the knocking noise is still there but I work all week and arnold clark aren't open on weekends so it's took me abit of time to bring car back up however they were aware and told me it will still be covered under warrantee becuase it's the original problem .. I have recently brought it back up and now needs a top mounts replacing let's hope it hasn't caused further damage but also now I'm expected to pay for it!!! Even though its the original problem.. 7 weeks you had my car I lost out on £1000 holiday that I've not been able to recieve my money back for and left with a dodgy car that I've paid high end price for ! I have spoke to multiple people and I get told nothing except what I already no and organised myself no help no compensation nothing it's utterly disgusting the money I have lost for buying from Arnold clark and it is still continuing to loose money.. taking no responsibility!!”
“Wouldn't buy another car from them again got one that was supposed to be 1 owner turns out its had 4 and the car is only 4 years old they are only interested in selling as many cars as possible and will lie to do that”
“Where do I start? After getting my car from seafield Edinburgh, along with 3 year service and MOT it has been one thing after another. First the timing belt went, the car was stil under warranty fortunately, I took it to my nearest garage. They got the part needed and Arnold Clark advised they would pay as it was under warranty. It took weeks to get fixed, the wrong part came etc. I'm a community nurse, Arnold Clark wouldn't give me a courtesy car, even though they are a massive company, even after explaining I'm a NHS nurse, working through the pandemic, the small independent back street garage did though, thank fully. The second MOT and service with Arnold Clark, it failed on the petrol cap not working properly, it was sold to me like that, we never gave it much thought initially, it had past the first-year MOT, so £120 for that part, few wks later the engine light came on, took it to the nearest garage, the garage asked when it was last serviced as there was hardly any oil in the car? It was a matter of a few weeks that I had been at Arnold Clark to get it serviced and MOTed for the second year. Took it back to Arnold clark they couldn't find a fault, or any oil leak. Today went for my last service and MOT to be told my service plan had expired, they then told me I had used my 3 years MOT and service, then after much debate they relented and said it was a clerical error. Then after waiting 4 hours and 20 minutes to be told my car had failed it's MOT and they can't fix it today, I was now in tears explaining I need my car as I'm a nurse. I've already had to take the day off, To be told, sorry there are no courtesy cars. I asked for the car back , I would take it elsewhere. My car is booked at an independent garage, first thing they said "why would you ever go to Arnold Clark? ", My thoughts exactly. Never, ever again. Never get a car from Arnold Clark, their customer service is dire!!!”
“On collection of a Q2 front suspension springs failed after one mile taken it back in right away to be told what do you expect it’s a used car!! Even after a week prior there was a noise that would be checked over before a customer collection??? What a joke avoid at all costs”
“Arnold clark ford Kilmarnock, Kenny Patterson almost sold me an Audi Q2 on the condition that the noise I heard on the test drive would be fixed on collection. Waited a week drove out the garage and the front suspension collapsed! So took it back to kenny where he told me ‘it’s not a brand new car’ these things happen to older cars. I then stressed i waited a week but was unsure what for and felt unsafe and provided me with an unsatisfactory service. He then told me it’s not a ‘Rolls Royce that your buying’. The attitude and lack of sympathy for the situation was absolutely appalling that even the customers next to us were shocked! Customer service at its worst here avoid!!!”
“Aviod at all cost piad £14200 for a second hand car supposed to be in "pristine condition" first lie, noticed a crack on a lower o/s trim panel and trim hanging off under car took it back and told they would order the damaged part and do repairs picked car up and drove home only to notice trim part still hanging down and on further inspection lower grill panel now not connected to anything ,disgraceful shody repair ,have since had someone check under car for me as i am unable to do this due to disability, and informed there is broken trim ,fixings missing and smashed engine gaurd which explains other repairs i was told were needed to car
before i collected it.for clarity to readers of this review this is Arnold Clarck Vauxhall Linwood .Also on purchase of car was told I would have 2 years free service and mot yet all the documentation sent with car says I declined to pay for this and dont have it and every time i ask about this just get fobbed off, I was warned about buying a car from Arnold Clark should have heeded warnings ,I will not be returning car to Linwood Vauxhall for any more work as i would not trust them to even pump up tyres never mind carry out work on car .So I thank you if you have persevered to the end of this review just wish I had taken heed of all warnings
Date of experience: 03 October 2022”

They couldn't get my car checked over because it was the end of the month crooks stay clear of this company rip off.sales boy josh corden hopeless aswell”
“Totally useless , avoid at all costs , had car in for issue these fools assumed what was wrong instead of listening to me and have done nothing , total waste of spaces in the Balfield road Dundee branch , pure rip off merchants”
“COWBOYS, stay clear, was sold a dodgy car with catalogue of issues from wrong mileage on MOT to car not been serviced, Linwood Vauxhall took the money and didnt want to deal with their mistakes, got passed from pillar to post ended up just taking the car out the garage, if you dont to get ripped off and value your time go anywhere but Arnoldclark they are robbers!”
“Bought a car from AC, after a week or so the car kept cutting out and breaks squeaking really bad. After constant phone calls, they took it into the garage to change breaks, this was apparently done 3 times but nothing changed. AA where out to fix fault of the cutting out episodes which happened that much they showed me how to change the fuse myself. Lights have come on like Blackpool illuminations constantly, into the garage today with extended warranty, apparently breaks are useless, oil is leaking among other things. They want to charge £500-£600 odd pounds due to west and tear as they said. It can’t be my west and tear if it’s been like this from day dot. Absolute joke of a Company and customer service is vile. Anyone who buys a car from here must have money to throw away. Avoid like the plague!!”
“We paid £345 for 2 services and a mot. Today we took our car down to Arnold Clark in Huddersfield and was told our agreement didn’t cover a mot. Our car is just 3 years old next week. We were talked into paying for quite a few extras, and no way would we have paid so much for 2 services. I sent an email to customer services to complain. I just got a short reply and no sympathy at all. They are as bad as the salesman who sold us the car. We will never use them again and definitely not recommend Arnold Clark at all.”
“Bought a 2015 peugeot 208 at the end of February. Have now had the car back to their service dept 6 times with different problems and have gone back twice with same problem which still isn't fixed. I'd advise anyone never to go to Arnold Clark to buy a car they are just rip off merchants. I have to take it in again on Tuesday and this time if I am fobbed off I 'm going to report the company to the ombudsman and demand my money back!”
“Shocking company absolute rip off merchants. Sold me a car that failed to start three times in 2 weeks, exchanged for another lights would not work yet they claimed it was OK as it had just had its mot. Tried all ways to get a refund but no joy and i paid the 2 year service deal which they said they couldn't transfer from faulty first car to second car. Stay away is what I tell my friends I will never deal with them again”
“My wife purchased a Ford Ka from Arnold Clark just over a year ago. She took and paid for the extended warranty/after care package. Just over a week ago the car was having problems namely the gears would not mesh, changing gear was not possible. The car was not able to be used. Using the after care service what we regarded as an extended warranty and insurance against mechanical failures with the car Arnold Clark at Seafield was called. After a fairly negative call we contacted after care which we understand to be part of Arnold Clark. An AA man visited our house and checked the car confirming the problems and offering some ideas regarding this serious defect. He towed the car to Arnold Clark in Seafield and I understand passed on his diagnosis to this centre of mechanical knowledge. Since then there has not been much progress regarding the obligations for the extended warranty/after care package. We had a call demanding we agree to pay for the investigation if aftercare refuse to pay. A further call after a week to demand we agree to pay 225 Pounds if the gear box is removed. We still do not know what is happening and do not have the car which is a severe inconvenience.
With this negativity regarding the warranty/after care package we now regret taking on the warranty/after care package and in fact buying the car from Arnold Clark all together. Please be aware of this poor service regarding your warranty/after care package which you pay for. I suggest looking somewhere else for your next car.”
“As per usual with Arnold Clark you turn up at 8.30am as agreed for service and MOT and you're told that car will be ready anytime up to 5.00pm. What's the point in a booking system if its all day.
Anyway, my car was ready about 2.15 so I turned up only to be told my car is just being valeted and will be ready in 15 mins. I've been here before I thought so I asked if the car was definitely being valeted and was assured it was. Fast forward 45mins and went to reception to say that this must be an amazing valet as I've been waiting so long. " has no-one been to see you sir" "erm, no" "I'll just go and check".
7 or 8 mins later " I'm awful sorry sir but they haven't started your valet"
Well I was non too pleased and told the customer service guy in no uncertain terms that I was not happy. I explained that this was the second time this had happened and on one occasion after a service they lost my car. Yes that's true. Everyone was looking for it and it was eventually found after about 15 mins.
On the plus side on this occasion I was offered a free tyre to replace one that had a nail in it and was on advisory list on MOT.
Will not be renewing my service contract for my soon to be picked up new Sportage but heck, their loss my gain”
“Arnold Clark Mini Inverness. Mini service c/o, on collection dash light still on. Told that the front discs and pads would need to be replaced before they cancelled the light. Service video sent to my phone indicated 9mm wear remaining (replaced discs and pads myself to save money, but couldn't reset computer). therefore the on board computer indicates pads and discs should have been replaced 11000 mile ago. I'm now told that unless Arnold Clark replace the pads etc they will not reset light even though there is still plenty of life in the pads. Quoted £400ish for unnecessary work, just to get the light/computer reset. They have my car and I still have the courtesy car. Think I'm winning this stalemate.”
“nissan qashqai jumping out of reverse gear, their mechanic said no, even told me they had made an appointment with Park's nissan in Ayr for me to get it checked, I went there and they had never heard of me or my car from Anold Clark. left embarrassed. will not answer my emails or even try to help. I'm left with a dangerous car. I feel like dumping it at their showroom door, [peugeot Western road Kilmarnock]. next step for me has got to be the newspapers, or legal action, terrible just no support at all, video below.”
“So my car had an issue with the clutch. It kept going straight to the floor and I had to get the RAC to tow me to the garage on the weekend before it was booked in on the Monday. I went to Arnold Clark as it is an approved Renault dealer and the car was only 3 months out of its warranty (although like my other two Renaults I thought it was a 4 years warranty only to find out it is 3 on this particular car). The car was booked in and the usual investigation carried out. I got a call, good news, it is just the external slave cylinder, so not too expensive but it will need to be at the garage another day. Fine, go ahead I said. The garage also said they will contact Renault to see if they will pay for it. Another call the next day.
‘Sorry Mr F we made a mistake, it isn’t the external salve cylinder but we think the internal one and we will need to take out the clutch and if it is, replace the whole clutch system. We also think there may be a problem with the electronics but we will need to investigate that at £x pound per hour. Good news though Renault are willing to pay 30% of the total cost’. – the total cost now having gone up to over £1500. Another call – ‘Yes, it is the internal slave cylinder and there is an issue with the electronics (not sure what this is as I can’t see it on the invoice). We need to order the parts and there is a 2 week wait time.’ – the car has been in 3 days at this point – ‘the cost, after Renault pay their 30% is now £1858.48, would you like the work to still be carried out’ – yes of course, what else can I do, I have no car and I need to get to work etc. Oh, and I asked if I could get a courtesy car but was told sorry, they didn’t have any in at the moment otherwise of course I could have had one and it would be free. No call the whole 2 weeks to about a courtesy car so not sure if one was ever available or I was just forgotten.
2 weeks later I get a call, the car is ready to be picked up. Unfortunately, I couldn’t that day as I was away so went pick it up the Monday after the weekend. I get the car, get in and the clutch goes straight to the floor, same issue. I go back in and a technician comes out and after pumping the clutch a little it is working and he says I can drive it but if I can bring it back the next day for them to take another look as they think it is just air in the system. Another drive back to the garage (over 10 miles from my house) while they take another look and clear out the air. I wait only to be told an hour later that it isn’t air but they think a small leak where the clutch goes in, i.e. the rubber seal and it will need booking back in to replace it. But don’t worry sir we will do this work for free (they have already made over £6k in total out of this job). It goes back in 2 weeks later for the day. I get a call that afternoon, sorry Mr F there is another issue we have spotted – the external slave cylinder. We need to order a part and we will have it for the next day so it will need to stay in another day. We will let you know when it is ready.
What????? The original issue I was told was the external slave cylinder. So, all this begs the question, did all the work need to be carried out in the first place or was it only after they found out Renault would be paying the 30% it was changed. Is the workmanship that has been done of a sufficient standard having to take the car back on multiple occasions to be kept being told it was x, y then z. Sorry but I just don’t trust the whole process and despite Arnold Clark paying for the final couple of repairs having no car for around 3 weeks in total and numerous trips back and forth to the garage I can’t say I am satisfied at all especially as I was left with a bill for over £1800 for work I am not even sure was now needed. Renault not paying the full amount for a car with less than 50K miles on it and only 3 months out of its warranty is a separate matter that I am taking up with them direct. My advice though, find a garage you can trust as I will never go back to Arnold Clark as I simply don’t trust them anymore and I will also never have another Renault.”
