About Chilton Furniture:

Chilton is a family-owned, Maine company dedicated to selling fine, wood furniture, all American-made. We are known for our Shaker-inspired designs, and also feature Arts & Crafts, modern and cottage style pieces in solid cherry, maple, ash, walnut, and quarter-sawn oak. We are also known for the quality craftsmanship of our custom work. Many of our pieces can be custom built to your specifications.

Much of our furniture is handcrafted in small Maine workshops, and we also work with boutique craftsmen in New Hampshire, Vermont and the Midwest, many of whom have been partners for decades. All of these cabinetmakers have a Shaker-like dedication to workmanship, function, and simplicity of line and form. All of Chilton’s pieces are built to our high standards, and a growing number are original, proprietary designs.

Very nice furniture overall but doors on buffet needed considerable adjustment and one door appears a little warped. Doors could be a little tighter. Most recent bookcase also good but shelves do not fit as tightly as I believe they should although the books keep them level and in place.

I am pleased that I went with Chilton Furniture. I went to the showroom because I was hesitant to buy without seeing the piece. It is beautiful. The delivery was great My only concern was that the bed did not have any "gliders" on the legs. (Scratchy floors) I would recommend Chilton

Table is great, staff is friendly and helpful. I am very satisfied. The only reason it is a 4 star is because nobody called/emailed when the table came in and I had to call and ask if it was there.

Furniture is gorgeous but one minor flaw… on 2 of the feet for the media console, the leg caps came off and left behind just 2 nails protruding. Once they put the media console in the TV room I attempted to move it and heard a sickening scratching sound on my wood floor. Result was a deep scratch on my wood floor. I replaced the leg caps with new ones I purchased from Lowes. May want to warn delivery people to check that the leg caps are still in place when they deliver them. It was not something I thought to look for but will so in the future. Otherwise, happy with the furniture.

George, We are glad to hear that you are happy with you new media console but so sorry to hear about the leg cap coming off and scratching your floor. As a result of your feedback, and because not every customer even wants a leg cap, we are going to be switching to felt (and if the felt comes off, there will not be a nail there that could scratch). It would have been a SIX if the live edge had been left on our headboard and dressers, as they appear to be in the pictures.

Hi Nancy! Thanks very much for your feedback. We will follow up with you by email because your bed's headboard certainly should have had the live edge on it and we would replace it if it did not. For the dressers and nightstands, a few years ago we changed our standard to NOT include a live edge because we wanted to focus all of the attention on the bed's headboard, although we DO offer a live edge as an option (and this is indicated on our website, and we have removed the photos showing live edge on the nightstands and dressers). We are very pleased with the quality of our new cherry sleigh bed frame. The cherry is beautiful and the workmanship is very good. However, I am not using the platform structure as it is plywood with flimsy support legs. I have retained the folding steel frame and assembled the new bed frame around it.

Jeff, Thank you for your candid feedback on the platform structure. We have transitioned most of our platform beds to a slat system that is both elegant and solid, with a thick center support rail replacing the legs. Your comment may be just the kick-in-the-pants we need to encourage the builder of our Penobscot beds to make a similar change. We are enjoying our new Penobscot Arbor Storage King bed and the two drawers on either side are quite functional (not huge but not too small either) and they glide very nicely. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because we had to wait a LONG time for delivery and then when it came to delivery, it took several phone calls to sort it out because of a change of delivery company as well as a change of our address. Ordered in February and received the bed in mid June.

Chilton furniture has been a go-to brand for my wife and I for the last 20 years. We have noticed some decrease in the hand-crafted quality in our most recent purchases but the product is still better than found in any box-store and a better price than other retail outlets. We likely will continue to shop at Chilton for long term high quality purchases but I hope the quality improves to where it once was when we made our first purchases from Chilton.

Some glitches with delivery and set up. Now there is a squeak when I get into bed. But the bed is beautiful! I love the look of it.

Terry, Thank you for your feedback. Our Shaker pieces have been in high demand and the builder who makes your workbench has a longer wait time than usual, which we apologize for. The good news is that he recently hired two more experienced full-time woodworkers and is currently looking to hire one more. We love the quality of Chilton Furniture. We bought 6 cherry kitchen chairs 20+ years ago and they have held up incredibly well so we were excited to purchase a matching cherry table. The table is stunning yet functional. It has two large leaves that store under the table. The order time took about 10 weeks which is what I was told when I ordered. The set up went well. The only problem was the leaves not aligning correctly but Chilton's sent out their master crafts person to look at it and we are in the process of getting it fixed. I would highly recommend Chilton's.

Quality of furniture is excellent and service was good, but there should have been a better process of advising progress of the order. It was a 3 month wait, which we knew, but as we approached the end of the lead time, the store was unable to give us any advice on an expected delivery date. They cannot give the impression that it is out of their control because they are dependent on the manufacturer. For the amount paid, they need to be a better ‘front’ throughout the process. This will not stop us returning and hopefully can be used as constructive criticism.

Ian, Thank you for your feedback--we will indeed take that as constructive criticism. We like working with small, local builders whenever possible. We like the passion and accountability they feel for each piece they build, and it helps to support our local economy. However, we do not yet have advanced systems with them for real-time tracking of building progress. That, along with an increase of in-stock inventory, will be an important goal for Chilton over the next two years. In the meantime, they have been pretty good about meeting their build-time estimates and we are glad we were able to get you your collection on time. The peg rack is lovely and well made, but I am disappointed that there is no mechanism to hang it. I thought there would be holes drilled to receive screws as well as wood caps to hide the screws. I called and was told most people drill the holes themselves.

We have traditionally not included pre-drilled holes in our peg racks because customers often want to secure them to the "studs" in their walls so that they can hold significant weight. Many customers have older homes with different spacing between the studs, so having pre-drilled holes would mean that they would not fit in many homes. However, we do recognize that the trade-off is that they are more difficult to install without a contractor, and we apologize for the inconvenience. This bed is quite popular and we had a surge of orders for it this summer which really caused the builder to fall behind. He has hired an apprentice and is bringing his build times back in-line with historical levels. We are very glad to hear though that you are happy with your bed!
