The itinerary was fantastic, offering rich experiences across the many habitats made possible in CR by the variable elevation and oceans exposure. Pre-trip planning was efficient, with questions answered quickly. The itinerary was full, but not overwhelming. Our vehicle was clean and the driver was very good. And no shortage of food! “As alluded to in my comments about the tour itself, there were problems related to the leader. He is not a professional guide and that became obvious. That was unexpected and not the case on other birding tours I have been on. I am not sure why this person was chosen since he had never been to this area. I think your process of selecting leaders needs to be reviewed.”
We appreciate your concerns regarding guide experience on this itinerary. While we do occasionally include a guide who is newer to a specific region as part of their development, this is always carefully balanced with experienced leadership. On this tour, Oscar had just completed the same itinerary the week prior and brought up-to-date, hands-on knowledge, and we also engaged a highly knowledgeable local guide in Tikal to ensure strong regional expertise throughout.
While our second guide was new to this particular itinerary, he is an accomplished wildlife biologist with extensive guiding and research experience across multiple regions globally. We are confident in his overall qualifications, though we regret that his regional familiarity did not meet your expectations.
