Brilliant ethical credentials (e.g. most highly rated ethical energy provider by Ethical Consumer at the time of writing), and invests in green infrastructure. Really impressed with the quality of the customer service when I had a query about my latest bill - the person I spoke to was friendly, helpful, clear and patient

This company hide behind 'green' credentials but are actually quite despicable. Aggressive, threatening and expensive. Avoid.

We moved into a 2 bedroom flat that previously used Ecotricity in July 2023, and had to use Ecotricity for 20 days while waiting for the switch over. Bear in mind, this was the height of the summer so we didn't have heating on, nobody was in the flat during the day, and only one person was staying in the property for most of those 20 days. They sent us a bill for £120 based on estimates and inaccurate meter readings. I have checked this against the price for Out of Tariff Electricity at this time, and they were charging us the absolute maximum they could. I was able to get this down to £106, which is still £20 more than I pay for a full month of electricity with my current supplier. I then spent the next 2 months sending across meter readings, giving old meter readings to demonstrate previous usage, spending up to 30 minutes on hold. They kept fobbing me off, telling me I needed to speak to my current suppliers as only they could confirm the new meter readings. So I spent hours on the phone to them trying to get this sorted (they had never heard of this and were baffled why Ecotricity were sending me to them). In the meantime, I was getting sent emails and letters from a finance company telling me I now owed more money and they would be visiting my property - always lovely to receive in the middle of trying to get this sorted. When I emailed ecotricity to ask why I was receiving this, they said it was automatic and I should ignore them, yet they kept coming anyway. After nearly 6 months of back and forth on this, Ecotricity said they had seen the meter readings but had been unable to come to an agreement with my current supplier so would not be changing the bill. I've wasted so much time and energy on this, getting passed around to various departments, having to write down various facts and figures, needing to call up my current supplier and try and get them to help, I have rarely known such a difficult company to communicate with. 20 days of electricity has cost me £106 and literally months of emails and phone calls. Their hold music is quite good at least.

We've been a customer of Ecotricity since 2016 when we bought our first electric vehicle and the first 3 years were great but ever since we moved house there was nothing but problems. We were overcharged constantly and when we got to the bottom of the case (after 2 years) their response was that someone put the decimal in the wrong spot but even after this was resolved (after it nearly landed at the Energy Ombudsman's desk) our bills were still super high. Customer service wasn't great and they constantly blamed Covid for everything, which is a lame excuse for such a big company. The nail in the coffin was when we found out that they donate millions to the Just Stop Oil eco terrorists. We switched to another green company and our bills are much lower. We would definitely not recommend Ecotricity in the state that it is today

They started charging me £300 per month for electricity (summer time, 1 bedroom flat), ignored my emails and got me into a ridiculous amount of debt while this was being handled. Took me years to pay it back. I know live in the same apartment and pay £35 a month. Absolutely horrendous company.

Blithering incompetence! Ecotricity? Eccentricity would have been a better name. Moved into property almost a year ago. For some reason (not my choice) Ecotricity was chosen. Despite many attempts at contact to getting meter reading accepted and updated they have not responded. Now today I get 9 bills, one for each of the last 9 months, all dated three days ago, a mix of estimated and metered readings. Usage for the preceding winter months far less than for this summer. Incomprehensible!

I got sick of the terrible customer service and overpriced energy, so I switched away. Once I had confirmed change of supplier I contacted Ecotricity to ensure the account was up to date to the end of the contract at which point they informed me I was £334 In credit. I requested and received a refund. Now, some 6 weeks later, they want £175 from me as I final bill despite me instructing them to refund me ONLY at closure of the account. Am pursuing formal complaint procedures. AVOID AVOID AVOID

Awful, expensive and incompetent. I was unfortunate to be put on a tariff with Ecotricity as standard when moving into a new build development and would strongly recommend anyone to AVOID using them. They are ridiculously over priced, you can never contact anyone when trying to talk about usage or payments. I requested every month to be moved onto a direct debit payment scheme which was 'confirmed' every time but never actually took effect. They are con-artists, just do not use them

Appalling rate of bills - I have been out of my place for 80 days including intensive care and travelling and I get a £900 bill for two months when my bills were maximum £120 a month - I have changed suppliers - unethical, patronising, manipulative, - appalling appalling appalling!!!

void using this company at all costs: Avoid using this company at all costs. They are incredibly unreliable and unable to perform even the most basic administrative tasks correctly. I strongly advise against building up a credit with them, as they will mismanage your bills and withhold your credit without any means of refund. Their customer service is equally incompetent, and it's best if an AI system takes over their job as soon as possible. My personal experience with them was terrible. All I wanted to do was change the name on the account to mine, as I became the main bill payer in the property. However, instead of transferring the £900 credit to the new account, they advised me to create a new account and billed me for the previous year that had already been paid by the previous account, putting me in £70 debt. Despite countless phone calls and emails, the issue remains unresolved, and they have caused me unnecessary stress and anxiety. I do not recommend this company, and I am currently taking steps to escalate my complaint to Ofcom. My account number is 200135690 Date of experience: 02 March 2023

Not worthy of 1 star. I live alone, in a small 1 bedroom apartment. Ecotricity are estimating my usage per month at £500!!!!!! Apparently I am using this much energy per month. It is not possible. They confirmed on the phone that it must be a case of my metre being hooked up to mulitple apartments (it happened before in the same apartment building) They sent someone out to view my metre, I used my holiday accrual to take this time off. NO ONE TURNED UP. Since then, I have emailed 18 times, called 26 times, and everytime I speak to someone they tell me they arent trained on the system to be able to help me with anything. WTF! I'm trying to resolve this, its stressing me out so bad. The lack of response is disgusting and disgraceful - and they want MY MONEY!???!!!!!!!!

I wanted to give you 0 stars, this company put in a bill meter when I told them I couldn’t afford to have that kind, but a payg meter was better for me, now they are getting on my case for payment. Go elsewhere for your energy 😡😡😡😡

Customer service was always a big plus point with ecotricity but now emails just go unanswered. I had a 3 year fixed business electricity contract with them which ended in January. My fault partly for not checking but I was moved to an extortionate out of contract rate of 60p per kwh and £1 per day standing charge. Just to note, my previous suppliers always contacted me at the end of the deal but no such communication here. Fair enough I thought, I should have checked myself but when I try to contact them to get me on a fair variable business rate again I either cannot get through on the phone or my emails go completely unanswered. I could not hang about any longer paying 60p per kwh and £1 day standing charge so have switched supplier. Note : I always knew that I was paying a premium with ecotricity for an ethical alternative which I was happy with. I just feel let down now now and they have lost a business customer for life. I am now taking steps to move my personal home account away from ecotricity too.

Have a rental apartment, which was empty for 3 months. Received an estimated bill, which I queried several times on the phone, email and post. Received a letter from a credit agency with additional charges. Why is it so had for the organisation to take the readings shared, calculate a bill to be settled? If this is how they treat someone who has been in constant communication attempting to settle the bill, how do they treat those that have financial challenges??? Have no emailed them again with a copy to the debt agency to review all emails and produce a bill.

If I could rate them a zero, then I would. As a clinically extremely vulnerable person, no help during covid, basically said if your meter is not topped up then you'll have no gas or electricity. When trying to contact them recently, no emergency number for evenings or weekends. Left myself and my daughter to freeze due to no heating and not being able to shower or even wash unless with cold water. They aren’t a helpful green energy company, they don’t answer messages outside of office hours. I’m trying to move companies but can’t even switch at the moment, due to other companies not taking people on. Solar labels on the house are not worth bothering with. Wish I’d never switched to them.

I moved into my flat in December 2021. My first bill came through in January 2022 without issue (other than to extraordinarily high price). But I haven't received any bills since then. Bills have started to arrive for the previous tennant - I am not sure what is going on. I have tried emailing and phoning ecotricity but can't get through. The phone line is always busy (I've been on hold for so long I doubt they intend to answer) or I get a message saying the offices are closed!! Why would you offices be closed in the middle of a workday? Sending an email into the void is pointless - I have not once heard back yet I've sent many. I will be writing an official complaint and contacting the ombudsmen if this doesn't get fixed within 14 days. It's stressing me out to think bailiffs could show up because of an admin error on Ecotricity's part!!! I won't bother to mention the extortionate price of their energy. Just know that it's extortionate.
