I’ve tried at least half a dozen other reading apps and this is the only one my 7 year old doesn’t get frustrated with and want to quit. It’s been great to see him read! My only question is when he mispronounces words or struggles with words we were told the app remembers and uses that info. I don’t see how tho? Was expecting words he struggles with to come up in books chosen for him. But other than that it’s a great app and we are both loving it. Thank you!

It’s really quite good. The AI doesn’t always get my child’s voice but it’s great overall. I do wish we could change what books he could read because the first few were like overloaded with cats and that is fine if you like cats but it got old

The concept for the app is fantastic. The app itself works decent, but does have some hiccups. My daughter is so excited to read! Ello is a supportive, safe reading friend who doesn't judge if she misses or struggles on a word. She loves asking Ello for help.

Ello is an amazing tool for an emergent reader! It would be great for any child that is not able to read full chapter books without help yet. The option to click on any word and have it not just read to you, but sounded out and blended, is useful not only to help the child finish that book, but to actually teach them to sound out and read new words. We really enjoyed using the app, but had some issues with the instructional videos. The biggest issue was volume - no matter how high I turned my iPads volume we couldn't hear the video well and when the app came back on the sound was so high we would both jump. And I wish the videos weren't on YouTube, but actually in app. Might not be a realistic wish, but it would be nice. Overall it is a really great app and I believe it will help any child learn to read better.

Sometimes my child is just talking and the app thinks he reading and we are not able to learn the words. Also the app kept freezing. I love the concept and will keep trying the site for a couple more weeks.

I wish there was the ability to get more than 3 books a week. I love how the child can click words and it breaks it up and reviews the sounds to help in the future. I wish there were lessons almost on sounds or the AI picked up on letter sounds the child may be struggling with. Also, if there was something that the child was struggling with would stop and sound it out.

I think reading with Ello is good. A few things I think need improving is that every child learns to read differently so, maybe having a different way they can read the book with the app would be good maybe even making a game out of it. I also think maybe if the app hears the child struggling with a word the app will pull the word up and help the child sound it out. Just my idea for helping my child read with Ello. I know that my daughter learns better with games so, if I don't see an improvement in her reading I might have to find another game-like application that will help her read and improve her reading.

I'm so happy with the decision to give Ello a try for my 7 yo with Dyslexia. Reading can be a struggle, but with Ello she's excited to grab a book. The rewards and praise keep her motivated, and she's already looking forward to her next box. Unfortunately my sweet girl is starting to struggle with academic self-confidence. Even when reading with loving and supportive adults he can become embarrassed and frustrated with herself. Ello allows her to read and dependently without any perceived judgment, and is working to build herself confidence. With continued use. I know her reading skills will strengthen but if all we ever got from the program was a boost in her self-confidence it would be worth every penny spent.

My 8 year old son can read pretty fast and earn stars pretty quickly but it took long time for my 5 year daughter to earn enough stars to buy the first couple of items available, which almost caused her to drop out of building Ello habit. We’d like it better if there are some more items available for fewer stars so that little slow readers can enjoy it and be kept motivated.
