Arrived to Gatwick london on a redeye flight to aee my family after 11 years. Picked up the car, signed for it. Left them a credit card number because he said it would cover damage if anything goes wrong. Got a great deal with priceline, flight and car. Came back after 15 days, car was great, full tank. 2 days after being home in the US my credit card gets billed for nearly $500. I signed electronically and didnt sign that i didnt need collision damage so they charged me. Very clever. I have been very stressed since my debit card got skimmed in london for $693. So europcar absolutely blew my mind. The assistant tried upselling me to a higher rate car, so im thinking this is all commission. Mark S

SCAM. 1st time I rent a vehicle, they charge me 500e for dammages. Hopefully I took pictures to prove that the dammages were already here when I rented. After a long fight, they finally refunded me. 2nd time I rent a vehicle, they charge me 300e for crossing border (it's written NOWHERE that you cannot cross the border, they even ask you to tick a checkbox linking to a Terms page saying that you CAN cross border within Europe except in a few countries). And they charged me 13% because I rented in a train station (same, this fee is written NOWHERE). Also they applied those 13% of the total price (including the 300e penalty above) even if they Terms say that it should not include any charge, dammage or fee. So it should have been 6e instead of 57e. I'm fighting with the customer service, they don't want to give me any information, I only get an automatic message keeping redirecting me to a mediator website, even tho this mediator cannot help me because my case is not compliant. So basically, Europcar steal your money, they dont explain why, they dont want to talk about it, and you need to fight hoping to get your money back. Everyone knows that they are thief but nobody helps you... I need to be in touch with a lawyer. Sush a shame Note: I attach here all screenshots of the rental process from their website, absolutely nowhere you can see any option that you need to take in order to cross the Spanish border, also nowhere you can see that renting from Sants adds extra 13% to your final price. Nowhere.

If renting a car from this company be VERY careful on collection to take detailed photographs of both the exterior and the interior. Check the car thoroughly before accepting it. Their employees cannot be trusted to list all existing defects and you may be found liable for them later. Do not believe the person handing you the keys when they say that there is only, for example, one item of minor damage on the rental agreement. I recently collected a car, was told that there was only one item of damage: a chip on the windscreen. When I checked over the car before leaving, I saw that there were scuff marks on the wheels but assumed that as it had not been mentioned this constituted usual wear & tear. The car hire rep was dealing with another customer. I am not a mechanic, nor an employee of a car hire company, to know what constitutes acceptable wear & tear or unacceptable damage. I accepted that he could do his job. A few days later I returned the car in the evening after the office had closed so did not see a car hire rep. 2 days later I was very surprised to receive an email stating that there were 5 items of 'new' damage. One of these was chipped paint on the edge of a door, something that would have been hard to see. The car hire rep had opened all the doors and taken detailed careful photographs. What a pity the same care had not been taken when the car was prepared for hire. I was lucky that my photographs showed all the ā€˜new’ items of damage to be pre-existing. The car hire company puts the onus on the customer to inspect the car (in detail). Their T&Cs state that ā€œif you don’t notify us of pre-existing defect or damage to the vehicle then we will assume that you have accepted the vehicle in the condition set out in the rental agreementā€¦ā€ It is a shame that they cannot employ people who will professionally carry out their duties and ensure that cars are in a good condition and defects are accurately reported. The people in customer services are equally unhelpful; their attitude seems to be ā€˜tough, you agreed to the T&Cs’. The ineptitude of the people who check the cars and the ā€˜hard luck’ attitude of the customer services reflect the bad name that some car hire companies have.

I should have known it was bad from the offset. The vehicle was an hour late and I was constantly being fobbed off while waiting for it. When I got home I looked in the back and saw how dirty the car was, it certainly hadnt been cleaned well. I was advised the car had previously had bumper damage but it had been repaired. The following morning, I was driving down the Motorway with my 2 children when I heard a loud noise from the front drivers side. When I Pulled into the service station I noticed the plastic wheel trim around the front wheel arch had broken off on the front part and was sticking out from the car. I pushed it back on due to having a child with additional needs that would not have coped with staying at the service station. I instantly rang customer service and advised I wanted another vehicle as soon as I arrived at my destination. They said they had emailed the branch and they would call me which they never did. The trim came off a further 4 times and I could not drive about 55mph on the motorway and needing to make emergency stops. When I arrived I instantly called to complain and air my disgust with the poor service and poor quality vehicle they provided me with. They told me I'd need to drive 1 hour away to collect another vehicle which I refused and was told they didn't know when they would have a replacement as they had customers waiting from 4 days prior! I was passed from pillar to post, told to ring their AA cover who came and gaffa taped the car back together whilst still waiting for an update on a replacement car. AA confirmed the clips were missing which is why it was happening as it needed a new trim and wasn't replaced. After being advised I would be called first thing the following morning and 4 days later I've had no contact despite calling again and sending a complaint. I'm now expected to drive this car for the return journey of 270 miles with 2 children and a car that is taped together. Never again will I hire a car from Europcar.

I make the reservation with autoeurope by phone , I think its the call center, when we arrive at Lisbon airport we wait for 3 hours before having the car, their no waiting line on the other companies desks. All the condition the I get on the first contract changes and they insist to give me full insurance, because insurance policies are different in Europe. At the end I paid two times the original price.

Europcar = Deceitful, Dishonest & Disgraceful Arrived at Europcar Desk Barcelona Airport to collect my pre-paid Audi Q2 SUV 4DR. Told it's not available and that the ONLY ā€œsimilarā€ option available was a Fiat Tipo instead!!! Half an hour of tedious negotiations later, and an extra payment of €250 on top of the €505 I had already paid, I got a BMW X1 which is way more similar to the Audi Q2 than a Fiat Tipo will ever be. In addition, an attempt was made to charge me 19% of the total rental rate in taxes. And this is after showing them a voucher by Sunny Cars (through whom I booked) that clearly stated all local taxes and airport service charges were included. No representative from Europcar available to assist me with locating the vehicle at the airport car park and familiarize me with the vehicle. Good luck trying to get a response from any of their communication channels! Europcar = deceitful upselling tactics, dishonest way of conducting business and simply do not care less about their customers. Steer clear.

Europcar accepts reservations from several websites (such as CarJet, which was the case) but then charges the rental claiming it is not paid. Actually, in this particular case, the reservation could only be made if paid in advanced and there was a PREPAID VOUCHER, which Europcar simply ignored. If CarJet is a scam, Europar is in with it and couldn't care less about it's clients. This happend in Europcar at Luxembourg Airport. I am still waiting for a refund, while Europcar just says they have nothing to do with it (curious thing, they had my reservation, which means that there is an "open line of comunication" between both companies. Maybe they split the profit of overcharging the costumers...). AVOID Europcar.

When we booked a car in Melbourne for almost 3 weeks in Sicily, we asked the consultant if we needed an international driver licence. She categorically stated we did not need one, as Australian drivers’ licenses are recognised in Italy! Just in case, we ordered a digital drivers’ permit. The documents we received from Europcar also do NOT state that an international drivers permit is needed. Even in the email,we received 2 days prior to collection there is no mention of an IDP. It sates to bring a passport, current drivers licence and the rHowever the desk clerk in Notarbarolo Palermo office, Maurizio, refused to discuss, or even look at our documents. He was rude and aggressive, ordered us to get out of the office or he would call the police and have as arrested!!! We are two mature travellers who have NEVER been in trouble with the law, and to be treated in this way was degrading, insulting and demoralising. He even refused to suggest how to overcome this situation and told us if we want help to go elsewhere. We are now stuck in Palermo our travel plans in chaos. Due to the fact we are travelling Europe for 10 weeks, we are not in a position at our age to be getting around in public transport! The phone consultant in Australia misinformed us with catastrophic results, and the man in your office in Notarbarolo office at the very least showed no courtesy or compassion for our situation. Our Sicilian travel plans are now in ruins.

Absolutely awful experience ! Walk away from this company and if you are still motivated to go with them, I would not recommend you to deal with EWAN who has clearly abused of our trust and lied to us without blinking an eye ! He "offered us" an upgrade on our original vehicle, without specifying this will trigger higher "Premium insurance" that we did not need as we booked through our Gold Mastercard which includes rental car insurance as long as everything is paid with it. We took it as he was doing us a gesture. Only realised that we had that extra cost to pay when we were about to return the car (Ewan was really good at pointing out the spaces to sign on the contract but not at going through the details of the price/cost which are written in tiny characters, of course). We discussed this when we turned the car and EWAN went to the back office behind the desk pretending he was phoning one of his managers and came back telling us everything was sorted and that we will get a refund within 4 to 10 days for the extra cost of the Premium insurance. He looked at us in the eyes my wife and myself, said "this is not something we would normally do but we are making an exception for you but you have to take good care of me by giving me the highest score on the satisfactory survey". We were ready to do so but as we never received the refund and after contacting Europcar customer service got told that this will not happen and that they could only rely on physical evidence (signed invoice). Indeed we should have read more carefully the contract, and we accept this but we don't accept the way we have been tricked and also that EWAN lied right in our faces while we had decided to be honest and to trust him ! Walk away from this dishonest practices !

Fraudulently added premium insurance after I declined at the counter. Customer services have declined to help and I have been charged £365 for something I clearly said no to. Hard to decide whether this is plain thievery or a scam. However, I would never reccommend Europcar again. Conveniently no name of the employee anywhere to be seen, however, he was keen to tell me he'd recently returned from working in Toronto. If you encounter this scammer working behind the counter, decline to be served by him.

I hired a car paid the initial price, then had to pay extra on a daily basis for insurance. Returned the car exactly in the same way I picked it up,clean and full tank of fuel. They took 250euros deposit from my card and informed me that it would be returned 3-10 days after vehicle has been returned with no issues. car was hired on 15th July 2024 & returned 19th July. I have not received my deposit and it is now 6th August. Be very careful if you deal with this company. Regards Shannon
