We rented a car through Expedia to get a car in Sorrento Italy. We picked up the car at 6 pm and parked to overnight in a garage. The next morning we drove 3.5 hours to Rome without incident. When we arrived at the airport, the agents refused to inspect the car in our presence. An hour later, they sent an email stating we returned the car with damage. We suspected fraud and took a video of the car before we left but Europcar still maintains there is damage. This is a fraudulent company. They made up the damages and I have a video to prove it. I will be suing them but want everyone to be aware of their scams

Car booked confirmed by email and then cancelled at arrival at Stansted Airport pick up. I would give them zero stars of if I could.

DON'T book your hire car with Europcar!! I was charged for a non-existent scratch after jointly inspecting the car with their representative and being told all was fine 😔 Europcar have previously been investigated by the UK Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) for similar post-rental billing practices, including charging customers for damage without proof of repairs.

I booked a car with Europcar UK and successfully applied a discount coupon — I even have a screenshot showing the discount clearly applied and reflected in the final booking price. Shockingly, upon returning the vehicle, the discount was quietly deducted from my deposit with no warning, no explanation, and in complete contradiction to what was shown at checkout. I reached out to customer service with full evidence (including a timestamped screenshot), only to be told ā€œno coupon was appliedā€ — a flat denial despite clear proof. Since then, I’ve sent follow-up emails and received no response whatsoever. As a customer recently made redundant, I find this treatment not only financially unjust, but in breach of basic consumer rights. I am now escalating the matter to Trading Standards, the Financial Ombudsman, and leaving this review to warn others. It’s outrageous for a large company to behave in such a dismissive and unethical manner. If you apply a discount with Europcar, make sure you take full screenshots — they may try to erase it later.

I have recently rented a transit van from Northampton branch in Brackmills for house removal,,, Mooney and Jordan were very friendly and helpful,,,, however there’s one thing about the DEPOSIT money they have to explain to people properly so there’s no misunderstandings,,, overall I received the correct vehicle and extended for 1 extra day at no extra charge,,,I would happily rent from Europe car again šŸ‘

Beware of Europcar in Vilamoura if thinking of hiring a vehicle. They give you a different/lower level of car from the one you book and pay for online, they keep your deposit for 10 days and have taken a random unauthorised amount from our account for no reason. No complaints book and after complaining by email they just replied with ā€˜We do not agree with your complaint and are allowed to do these things’. Never again - Do not use them

Someone dropped one of their cars off in my drive, they have been extremely unhelpful in getting it removed. It’s been in my drive all weekend certainly doesn’t look like they want it back!!!

Working with Fred Mercy was a game changer. They earned my trust quickly with their professionalism and results. If you need someone dependable for fund recovery, look no further.

I rented a vehicle from Europcar Autovermietung, Linz on April 15, 2025, and returned it on April 16 at 08:00. At the time of return, the staff confirmed that there were no issues with the car. However, weeks later, I received a damage report claiming scratches that were already present when I picked up the car. I provided photo evidence taken at pickup clearly showing the pre-existing damage. Despite this, I was sent a bill for two separate damage incidents, each charged under the franchise, totaling double the deductible. This was never explained during the return and feels entirely unjustified. I contacted their customer service (Schadenservice and Marko Tawdrous), but their response was dismissive and blamed a ā€œclerical errorā€ in the original letter. I trusted Europcar Linz to handle the rental professionally, but this experience left me extremely disappointed. I would caution others to document everything with photos and be very careful with this location. I will not be using Europcar again and plan to escalate this issue further.

Extra options added without any explanation and certainly not what I asked for. Unfortunately, I arrived early morning and was tired and did not check the forms correctly. I only found out when I returned from the trip and they sent me an extra bill. The customer service of course does not want to understand what happened. I am a long standing client. I will never rent from them again and would advise you to do the same. This practice should not be tolerated.

I do not recommend renting a car from them. I paid for the rental and insurance for 8 days, arrived at Fuerteventura airport where they wanted to charge me again for the car insurance at the counter. Because I insisted that I had already paid for the insurance and wanted to call the company's headquarters, the employee at the counter canceled the contract I had already paid for. She did not return my money, so I was left without money and without a car. Be careful, because they cheat on insurance, they take the money, but you do not get the car. I recommend SIXT car rental.

Went to Guayaquil for just a couple of days—great experience! The car was in good condition and drove smoothly, which made a big difference on the rough roads. Definitely appreciated having a reliable vehicle.

Avoid Europcar South Africa – Dishonest Charges After Rental I would strongly advise against hiring a car with Europcar South Africa. After returning our vehicle in perfect condition with a full tank, we were charged an unexplained amount with no warning, invoice, or communication. We tried repeatedly to get in touch and were finally told by a staff member at the Cape Town Airport branch that the call to us was a mistake, our deposit had been returned, and there was nothing to worry about. Yet money was still taken from our account without explanation. Looking at other reviews, this seems to be a common issue. If South Africa wants to encourage tourism, companies like this do more harm than good. We’ll be disputing the charge with our credit card company. Think twice before booking with Europcar – not worth the stress or the risk.

Rented with Eurpocar via booking.com and paid in full upfront at time of booking. A few days later arrived at Gatwick to pick up the rental car. Declined the upgrade to a Mercedes and stuck with the car I paid for. Declined the additional insurance. Declined the fuel filling service. I rent frequently with Budget and Avis so I understand I pay a deposit on a credit card, normally Ā£200 with those 2 companies. Euro are charged my credit card Ā£449.40! What is that for??? Won’t be using them again!!!! The chap at the counter was very sweet though.

Refused service because I had my original paper licence issued 1997 and passport for photo ID!!! Was told I must have a photocard driving licence - utterly ridiculous! I booked to hire a car from Europcar, paying in full - when I arrived there was an issue with no car available so I was asked to wait. After an hour the gentleman said he’d take copies of my paperwork - he stated that my original paper driving licence was not valid despite all details being correct (name, address, signature etc) and me having my passport with me. I explained that I’d never been required to get a photo driving licence as this was a valid government document issued by the DVLA. I suggest Europcar staff are actually trained correctly in future - a complete waste of my time! I went next door to Enterprise and hired with absolutely no issues
