“I would not have found a tutor within driving distance of where I live without First Tutors. The site was easy to use and my tutor is very friendly and lovely to spend time with. I am enjoying my learning experience.”

“Not very user-friendly. It automatically selects a number of teacher options and you have to double un-tick each of these, to then be able to select the teacher you want to get in contact with. After a message correspondence not easy to run on the website, the only way to actually agree with a teacher on the first lesson is to pay 14.99 EUR to get access to their details. If then the tutor changes their mind you have to start the whole process again, identifying a new tutor and then pay again the above sum to get access to a new teacher's details - which is of course aside the price of each lesson. This is what happened to me. As soon as I paid 14.99 EUR the teacher told me she was no longer available. An actual scam.”

“PROS: First tutors had a good way of advertising tutors so its easy to pick the type of tutor you think suits your needs as you get to speak wth them in a private chat CONS:I do think £15 is a bit much and kind of extortion for the fact that all your paying £15 pounds for is to find out the tutors email address and number, which I think since you are able to chat with the tutor as a customer this arrangement could be sorted out via exchange of info which is FREE instead of £15 fee on top of the money that has to be paid to the tutor. I think the charge should be cheaper for what your getting other than this the site isn't terrible I connected with a tutor so it will link others to.”

Dear Shannon, Thank you for your feedback. The intro fee helps cover the costs of ID checks, reference collection, qualification verification etc. website administration etc. The fee ranges from 4.99 up to 24.99 so if you can only afford lessons at 10 pounds per hour for example we only charge a one off 4.99 fee. Dear Margaret, Thank you for your feedback. On First Tutor's homepage it does clearly mention there is a fee to pay. It says:Pay our one-off fee (between £4.99-24.99*, linked to tutor's rate) to connect with your private tutor and begin your lessons. No fixed term commitments. No hourly commission. Just private tuition. It also mentions payment in the email our system sent you once the tutor accepted your request. We wish you the best of luck with your new tutor. “Tried several sites to find local a level tutors, but first tutors was the only one with any success. Other sites the tutors didn't respond (as if they were non existent), or offers of online tutoring (which we did not want). Daughter now has 2 very good tutors, coming home regularly, and she's receiving good quality tutoring on one to one basis.”
