“Dealing with First Tutors was pretty easy - in reality, unless you live in a city there will be a limited choice of tutors within driving distance. The website tends to list the tutors using the nearest big town so their actual location can be some distance outside that town so check that before you sign up. In the end after a few visits we ended up doing it all by Teams/Zoom and it worked fine. Joyce, our tutor, was great - she knew her stuff.”

“I used first tutors to hire 3 alevel tutors at very short notice, all very smooth and the cost of using first tutors is not excessive. As a happy customer I would recommend this service”

“I have used First Tutors a few times now for all three of my children. I can only comment on science tutors. The ones that I selected together with my children, they were pleased with the support they received. These were for A levels. The only negative thing is that the finders fee is expensive.”

“Oos sit but far too difficult to work through finding tutor then paying first payment. Just not clear enough. Needs modifying. I had to ask my tutor person how to do it?”

“Managed to get a couple of good tutors from the side. After paying the fee for the website we are free to arrange lessons independently with the tutor. No free chat before paying the fee for the details of the tutor. No option to search very specific exam boards.”

“It can seem a bit fiddly to start off with, regarding navigating. After a few minutes, you find your way around. When it says "release details" yes, you do have the pay £9.99 currently. I can only assume that this is to make sure people are genuine, or it's the minimal charge the company makes for advertising tutors. They have a myriad of tutors, and experience is thus reflected in the price the tutors charge. So far our experience has been good. I will update my review at a future date, when we're further along. They do however, seem genuine.”

“First Tutors provides a wide range of tutors with very detailed descriptions of their strengths and experiences, which enables you to perfectly match a tutor with your student’s needs. All tutors are easily contactable, and promptly answer any question or query, meaning that you are able to make a very informed decision when selecting the perfect tutor. I was initially concerned about paying the £29.99 finders fee, as this has to be paid before any tuition takes place (and before any tuition fees have been paid). As at this stage there is no way of knowing if the tutor you have selected will meet your needs, and there is no guarantee that the partnership is going to work, and therefore it feels like a bit of an expensive gamble. Although I’m pleased that we took that gamble, as the tutor that we selected is perfect for our daughter, I still think that the finders fee is a little high, and a £10-£15 charge would have been more acceptable - hence the ‘Good’ rating, rather than ‘Very Good’.”
