Responded promptly before the commencement of the tutoring. On the first meeting day, he appeared to be professional. Unfortunately, I found it not very abreast with the way first tutors company operate. I requested for his ID. He reluctantly provided this. My daughter whom he tutored didn't think the lesson was properly taught and explained.

Didn't realise that the start up was £14.99. The tutor didn't tell me that either! Are your tutors trained in how to meet people for the first time, how to screen share and how to prepare and direct a lesson?

First Tutors charges a finder's fee, this is displayed on the main home page, within the request next to the tutor's hourly rate and also mentioned in the emails we send to clients. The finder's fee is to help cover costs of performing ID checks on tutors, reference collection, qualification verification, running of the website etc. If you have a problem with a tutor we offer another tutor at no further cost once you have contacted us to let us know. Sorry! I had such difficulty getting money paid to you even as far as being told I would lose my booking. I don’t know why my card was not accepted until the very end when it suddenly went through, even my son couldn’t get it right, however, many many thanks for a lovely teacher. She is brilliant and just right for me.

The reason I’ve left my average review is the misleading claim that the first consultation is free, when in fact you have to pay £12.50 to access your potential tutor’s details. Otherwise it’s a good resource for finding a tutor. However, I found a more suitable private tutor so would always recommend people look around rather than solely rely on First Tutors.

First Tutors charge a finder's fee to release your chosen tutor's contact details once you have used the private messaging platform to discuss your requirements. Our fee covers the costs involved in completing identity and reference checks on tutors so you can chose with confidence. We also offer a free replacement tutor if you are not happy with your initial choice of tutor. Some tutors do offer a free first lesson (this will be displayed on the tutor profile) but our finder's fee is still applicable. I hope all goes well with your new tutor. I found an excellent local tutor through the site so for that I give the average review. What I didn’t like was the fact that the majority of the ‘local tutors’ were in fact stooges. Often, attractive young people, with favourable rates. When you select them the site tells you the are not available and will suggest someone else.

Please be assured that all our tutors are real and have passed ID checks and have had to provide references amongst other security checks. It is true that a couple of times a year (now is one of those periods) tutors can get fully booked very quickly. We also do remind tutors to switch their profiles off if they are fully booked or unable to provide tuition. It's a basic site with a good number of teachers, but would be more use with additional filters e.g. the ability to ONLY see teachers offering face to face lessons and enter a price range PLUS the ability to sort results e.g. by distance and/or price.

I have made a mistake because the music teacher only teaches modern music and does not teach classical music and I need this specific requirement. I think the information about his skills is not clear.

I was able to find a tutor quickly and am very happy with my choice. Pleased to be able to pay the tutor myself and not via First Tutors. Complicated application process - lacked clarity.

I bought first tutor, but not successful to work with him, so I paid the introduction fee for nothing, If you could charge after first lesson or customer can claim the introduction fee if the tutorial can not start that would be much better, now I have to pay for finding another one.Not very satisfying about this.

The identification of a suitable tutor was good. I found the application very unwieldy and stressful as time was of the essence to communicate with the tutor.

Contacted First tutors to search for some help for a boy aged 8 . Found Tutor reasonably easy but had t realised that you needed to pay to release details . Found the tutors were very swift in replying on the discussion boards but once you went on to try and arrange tuition through the personal contact they became very quiet and didn't respond as quick. It so far has taken 4 weeks and still no sign of any tuition.

The search and criteria aren’t accurate and you get a lot of irrelevant mismatches showing up. The finders fee should be a one off charge rather than per tutor. The information such as tutor details an references and messaging facility plus reminder emails is very useful and good. Just the cost element isn’t great.
