My son has a policy with carrot and has been insured with this company since January. He has had one warning in regards to his driving but on average has been a good driver he last week received an email to say that his policy is now being cancelled as he was driving 30 in a 20 zone the week previous. We have since been to look at the road in question and there Is 1 small sign half down the road and 2 others on the road so other than a very small sign on a lamp post how would he have known if other cars covered the signs on the road. The highway code book tells all drivers if you are on a road that has lamp posts you are to assume that the road is a 30 mile an hour road. My argument is that the smallest of signs halfway down a road doesn't warrant full disclosure as they can not tell you where in the road you were driving at speed then how can he be penalised for it. When this is a genuine mistake. This now has caused him much distress and upset at the fact that he may now not get another policy to cover him how do kids have a chance of being able to afford to get cover with things like this when overall his score is always 8.5 and above.

The first year I was with carrot I had a couple of hundred pounds back in rewards but the second year was next to nothing and yet my driving scores were really good. Also the renewal now for my third year was virtually the same as last year and I expected it to be a lot less. Trying to get through to them is really frustrating, I always give up and send an email or Facebook message and ask for a callback.

Very hit and miss, been with carrot for 9 months and had a average score of 5.05 from -10 to 10. Due to my car being problematic I decided to sell and upgrade to a slightly more powerful 1.4 ltr golf. All well and good paid for transferring to the new car and hit with the remove the mods before the box is installed or get cancelled. Like what? Because my new car has tinted windows and bigger alloys I must remove them and send back to stock within 2 weeks? No, they know how I drive as the black box has recorded me for so long, but because the car looks different they decide to hit me with the take it off or your getting cancelled. No wonder young drivers can't get cheap insurance these days. Cheaper isn't always better

I had a bad experience with this car insurance as i was made to get the black box app and it was awful I don't understand how this app can rate your driving. I was disppointed with how it rated me On regular basis, it also scored you badly if you went further than 40 miles and you would get a red score if you didn't drive your car that week which is ridiculous. I would never use the black box app again.

I am really disappointed about this insurance company. They gift me red score, but the box counted 2x my journey. Its mean 2x 126mills. 5x I called always apologise from them but nothing changed. Still i have 126mils more. And 100% sure that on the system I have that I have been on red score. Witch is lie. I never been. Customer servise always told me that he will sold it out. Nothing happend. I emailed but without answer. Just really sad. Why they are lieing? Why is score worst after 10 pm?!

Every time I called carrot (as a customer) I was waiting at least 20 minutes before a person answerd in which the problems where resolved after 3 attempts to call them! Poor customer service.

They are very very unreliable!! I only went with this insurance company because they were the cheapest I could find and I regret doing so! They always put my score down when I've done nothing wrong, always down on usage which I don't understand? They always claim I'm speeding when I never do and put me down on smoothness all the time? And then when I had my first accident the other day the report didn't even come up!!! Since the accident I've been calling up all the time for advice and support and they claimed that my policy would be majorly affected if I got them to do all the leg work. They tried to get me to catch up the guy at faults insurance, and the garage to which my car is in and to personally claim my car is written off, that's their job not mine.dont use this insurance :)

Completely useless. Getting passed around the company. Was involved in an accident that wasn't my fault. My car was redeemed not repairable so I had to buy a new car. Then I had to pay over £240 for an admin fee and for the black box to be fitted. This is not fair. I will be taking this matter further. Also you get rewarded quarterly. The accident was in February, it made my score go down and after explaining this when the quarter reward came yesterday I got nothing. My score was still on minus and still is. Avoid Carrot Car Insurance. They are so shit!

Being a cheap insurance I decided I would go with them, I'm in my second year with them now because I couldn't afford to switch. Generally when you get on the phone to them they are all very polite and helpful but it takes a very long time to get through to them, a very...very long time. Just be prepared to hear "Thank you for holding, we are talking to other Carrot Customers right now but we'll be with you as soon as we can" As I'm writing this I am trying to get through to them on the phone and the repetition is sending me clinically insane.

Mostly I've had no problems, it was cheap insurance and my box was fitted fine. I got really got scores for ages and received my quarterly reward. However I got a notice saying I was speeding doing 31mph in a 20 zone. I do realise this is speeding but considering I'd had perfect scores and this was recorded in the quarter they paid me back for good driving it just seems a bit silly.

Recently just left Carrot after a single year. My renewal quote was ridiculous. My first year policy cost £1400 for 8,000 miles. I topped up 2000 for an added £200 in the middle of my policy. Towards the end I ran out effectively to add a few hundred just to tick me over. Over 120 for a mere 300 miles. I was already quite upset. But the renewal 'invitation' was upsetting. For 8000 miles I was quoted £1950. Somehow after one year driving with a decent score, my policy price has soared. Especially when you compare it to direct line which just cost me £1150. Thats with 10,000 miles. - THIS COST IS NOT THE WORST THING REGARDING CARROT - 1. Their black box - It works well, and I had no problems with it. Except one speeding warning. Which I took on the chin. You get penalised for everything and it's never consistent. Speed works very well. Smoothness, well thats a different story. I can drive to the max of my little 1.25 on a twisty road and get Smoothness of 10/10 however as soon as you drive around looking for a space in Tesco it goes straight to minus. The worst is Time. When I purchased my policy and selected, Social, Domestic and Commuting. i never thought I'd be penalised every day for driving at peak times. You get penalised for driving at morning, at noon, the evening rush, and at night. Its ridiculous really. Planning a motorway journey? Kiss your rewards goodbye. Apparently driving 50 miles on one without stopping is dangerous to them. You completely loose your freedom if you want to receive the 'brilliant' rewards. If its cheap, then go for Carrot. However other Telematics based insurers offer much better deals regarding freedom. I received around £40 in the year on my card due to how I use my car. Furthermore I didn't appreciate the 45 minute wait on the phone to tell you I was not accepting my renewal.

The black box is heavily unreliable, it marks you down on usage. I've had to call them multiple times to change things such as duplicate drives, when customer service we're confronted they said I can make smthat same drive twice at exactly the same time. Terrible app as well, wouldn't recommend to anyone as it's so unreliable.

Had to do everything twice, was told I never completed the details with my licence. I was given a date to have my box installed and no one turned up but when they finally got in touch they said it was my fault? I waited at my home address so all day for them to arrive.

Hard to get hold of them when you need them. Always getting emails threatening me with my insurance even when my driving is fine.

I haven't had a problem with my black box yet but I have with my policy and the installation. I have spent literally hours on the phone on hold waiting for someone who were then useless and even lied to me. For cheap insurance choose Carrot, for anything else don't.
