Awful told me a price for a faulty phone then when they check it offer me 1/4 of the price

I'm sorry, but phones must meet our testing criteria to receive the full price.

The phone which I had paid to be in excellent condition arrived badly damaged. I did receive a refund but I wouldn’t recommend their business to anyone.

Sent faulty phone and took weeks to get my deposit back as they kept messing up and ignoring my emails

A phone being sold as faulty should not matter if can be tested or not

Sorry to hear that. Unfortunately, we do not accept devices with No Touch ID.

If I could review with no stars... I was initially offered £76.01 for my iPhone 7 Plus, sent it off and they came back with a 'revised offer' of £38.00 because 'the device you sent is not as described, or because your sale does not meet our terms & conditions'. I replied with screenshots of a conversation had prior with a sales representative proving otherwise to which responses by the company became longer and longer as they obviously realised they no longer had a sale on their hands. Total scam, same happened to my auntie. DO NOT USE. Also all of their emails go straight into the Junk folder so I guess that tells you something too. So they ended up sending my phone back to me which I have now sold on Depop for £85.00. Over double their revised over and nearly £10.00 more than their initial. They have also reported my entirely accurate and honest review of them on Trustpilot so leaves me wondering if they do this with all of their negative reviews to maintain a falsely high rating? Do not trust the stars if that is the case, which following my experience with them, I highly suspect.

Sorry to hear about your negative experience. All offers are subject to the handset being tested. Kindly add our support email to your email client's whitelist as third party spam filters are outside our control. I understand this is now resolved, but please do not hesitate to contact our support otherwise.

Gecko wanted to confiscate my phone without paying me as it had previously been subject to an insurance claim. I understand that they have legal obligations, but I found that their customer service was not very reassuring or helpful in resolving the issue. Very much a “computer says no” situation. I was finally able to get paid (though half of what I was offered) after finding advice elsewhere and fixing the issue.

Hello, as you rightly say we have legal obligations as to how we process blacklisted phones. As a responsible recycler we adhere to the Recyclers' Code of Practice. Please see here for more information: https://www.checkmend.com/uk/resources/recycle. I am glad you were ultimately able to resolve the issue, and apologies for any friction our side.

Very disappointed with Gecko. Why don't you text or email with your decision to only pay £5? It's no good putting on your order status page where I'm unlikely to look and challenge. The iPhone 6S that I sent you worked fine albeit the battery was weak, and yet you decide it is unusable. I feel robbed! I will actively ensure that no one I know every uses your service.

We sent you email notifications of each stage of the process. I am sorry if you did not receive our emails for any reason. The phone was dead and the SIM tray had been removed so we were unable to check the IMEI/serial number. Therefore we had no way of knowing whether the phone was account locked, stolen, etc. The phone was processed as per the guidance on our website and T&Cs.

Terrible I described phone as broken not working when actually it just had a cracked screen and turns on fine , you sent me an email saying it was in worse condition than described when actually it was better! Paid out 28 pound less. Terrible company use some other site will be giving reviews to website I found you through

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. The re-offer email did not say your phone was in worse condition than described. Rather, you were given the up-to-date website price as the original offer had expired. This is because the phone was not received by us within the 10 day timeframe (we did send reminder SMS and emails in an effort to help). I hope this helps clarify things, and apologies for the negative experience.

Decent but got half the price offered due to their site not being clear, sent Iphone 7 with faulty home button and as a normal person you would assume to click faulty as the home buttons still classed as a button. Got email saying it was third party mistake but I went directly on their site to place order and in the email they class the home button as a major fault. Bit misleading to not specify issues with home button on the fault description so 1 star from me

Hi Leon, thanks for your feedback. We do not accept devices with No Touch/Face ID as this is an irreparable fault.

Liars and scammers, took 5 days start to finish not as mentioned on the website, halved offer due to apparent software boot loop which was not the case, was all wiped and reset before sending and powered back on perfectly, do not trust, use someone else, will report to trading standards for miss selling and using inflated prices to pull customers in.

Hi Emily, I am sorry to hear you feel this way about us. Your phone had a potentially irreparable fault , and therefore we made a revised offer as per the guidance on our website. I can see you accepted our adjusted offer, rather than electing to have the handset returned free of charge. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with others.

Hi Shane, thank you for your feedback. Your phone was dead. As per the guidance on our website we do not accept dead phones. We made an offer nonetheless which you accepted, rather than having the handset returned free of charge.

As explained above, I was told to pay the warranty deposit and send back the phone to be fixed if the problems were not related to the minor crack in the screen that happened after all the other issues. On sending it back I was told that it was not covered under the warranty because of the crack that I had already clearly disclosed in a previous email. If they had simply told me this would be the case I would never had sent it back and at least could have gotten some money back from selling the faulty phone that they had sent me (despite claiming in the listing that it was fully tested and in full working order). So now I am without a phone, and have lost all the money spent on the phone as well as the warranty deposit and the money I had to spend sending the first faulty phone back from abroad. Absolutely unacceptable.

Hello Amanda, thank you for taking the time to leave a review and apologies for your negative experience. Dropping or mishandling the item does invalidate our warranty, however, in an effort to provide good customer service we did give you the option to return the handset. We explained at the time that if our technician determined that the fault could be caused by dropping the handset, we could not repair it free of charge. However, you chose to go ahead and send in the handset. I am sorry this didn't work out for you, and we hope to see you again in the future.

£50 less for faint scratches and 'wear' on a speaker?? Over inflated prices and very disproportionate assessments. Feeling ripped off

Hi Rob, thank you for taking the time to share your valuable feedback. I'm sorry to hear you disagree with our assessment and valuation of your phone. Please be aware we are always happy to return devices free of charge if the customer does not agree with our assessment of their mobile.

I'm sorry to hear you are unhappy with your experience, and thank you for sharing it with others. I understand that you returned a handset under our warranty, but our technician discovered our internal tamper-proof warranty stickers had been removed, an unauthorised third party repair had been conducted after we sold the handset, and small parts were missing. We did do our best to help you despite this not being our fault, and we hope to see you again in the future.

Not a great experience, phone got returned with scratches on the screen. I felt the phone was inadequately packaged, wedged directly into a cardboard sleeve which had not been assembled following the instructions on the packaging itself. So instead of a protective belt around the phone it caused more pressure on the screen and there was no bag, foam, sleeve or any kind of protection on the screen. You get more protection when buying a 2 pound screen protector off eBay to be honest. Had dialog with the company but no help or compensation was offered, was blamed on the new non-OEM screen not being hard enough. However it was clear the primary cause was the badly packaged device and the basic instructions of the packaging not followed. Company offered to assist a claim through Royal Mail which I thought was also bad considering Royal Mail was clearly was not to blame, I'd rather absorb the loss myself than claim through someone not at fault.

I am sorry to hear you feel that we are responsible for scratches on the display of your device. We take claims like this very seriously; the MD personally reviewed the CCTV footage of your device being processed and interviewed the staff members who processed your device. We came to the conclusion that the device could not have been damaged in our possession. We use industry-standard packaging for the return of handsets; boxes specifically designed for the transport of smartphones via the postal system. We did offer to claim on Royal Mail as we are certain the device was not damaged in our possession, therefore if your device picked up scratches on the way back to you Royal Mail would be the party responsible. I am sorry we could not do more for you, but we can only take responsibility if we are to blame.

After being offered an online price of £173 for a good condition iPhone 7, I was offered £66 after their inspection due to a chip on the screen and crack in the battery lense, neither of which were there when I sent the phone in. I Have explained this to them but it is my word against theirs, just wish I’d taken a photo of my phone before I sent it as it was in perfect condition (sent it in bubble wrap and 2 boxes so doubt it was damaged in transit). Others beware and make sure you have proof the phone was in good condition before you send it. I’m currently awaiting a response from them. I’ll keep you posted on what happens next.......

Hi Samatha, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your valuable feedback, and for sharing your experience with others. Please contact our support if you feel your handset was damaged in transit. We can make a Royal Mail claim on your behalf. I can assure you your device was not damaged here as all items are opened and processed under CCTV, which I have reviewed. I can see that we took care when opening the package and processing your device. Your handset was not dropped or mishandled whatsoever.

Gecko were the highest paying company on comparemymobile.com for my phone, they offered £240 for a phone on the basis that it was in working condition. The first problem was that the ‘free postage’ offered does not include tracking or insurance so I had to pay an additional £7 to post the phone. After receiving the phone they then sent a revised offer of £160 because the phone apparently failed a battery health check and had dents and scratches (there are no dents on the phone). I had the battery checked by Apple a month ago and they said there were no issues. Next time I won’t just go for the highest price. I’ll check which supplier has got the most good reviews.

Hi Nick, Thank you for sharing your experience and providing us with your valuable feedback. To my knowledge no other recycler offers fully insured postage. If they do, I am sure it would be priced into the offer anyhow. Similarly, if your device has heavy cosmetic wear and you do not want an adjusted offer, it may be worth using one of the few recyclers who do not evaluate handsets based on condition but offer less because of that. We ALWAYS pay the full price advertised for devices which are as described and meet our T&Cs. We do accept devices with normal cosmetic wear without adjusting the offer, however dents would be classed as "Poor" condition (the price and criteria of which are clearly displayed on our website, which you did not visit as you placed your order via a comparison site). Could you please reach out to our support and we will be happy to share the test records and photos of your handset (we are unable to contact you or look up your order as you only included your first name in your review). I am sorry our service did not work out for you this time, and we hope to see you again in the future.

I sent 3 mobile phones to 3 different companies to sell and Gecko were easily the worst by some distance. They were the only company who I asked to send my device back to me, so poor was their offer. They initially offered me £48 for my I-phone SE so I sent it to them. They wrote back to advise me that there were "Too many scuffs and scratches across the device to qualify for "Good" Grade" - absolute nonsense and completely unfounded. I have photos of the front and back of my device to prove this is garbage. Their revised offer to me? £12 - A 75% REDUCTION! This is despite their FAQs reassuring people that they would only reduce the price "slightly" if a problem was found with the phone. Haha, what an absolute load of rubbish. I rejected their offer so they returned the phone to me I received the phone back today and not only did they NOT send back the original box which I sent it in, they left a stupid bar-code sticker on the back which took ages to remove. What an atrocious service to leave that on there for me to remove. There are a lot of good mobile recyclers out there - I would 100% NOT recommend sending your phone to Gecko based on my experience.

Hi Rich, I am very sorry to hear of your negative experience, but thank you for taking the time to share it with others and ourselves so we may improve. I can see you placed your order through a price comparison site, which means you would unfortunately not have been presented with our Good / Poor / Faulty condition options/criteria. If you had selected "Poor" then you would have got the price you expected, as according to our test records your handset had multiple scratches and scuffs. We ALWAYS pay the full price advertised for devices which are as described and meet our T&Cs. We DO accept devices with normal cosmetic wear without adjusting the offer, however multiple scratches and scuffs across multiple surfaces on the device would be classed as "Poor" condition I am afraid. I am sorry our service did not work out for you this time, and we hope to see you again in the future.
