As with the Fire Warden course I have recently done, this one has several ambiguous, misleading and incorrect pieces of information.

Following on from what I said in the following review, where I suggested that you should be allowed a one shot chance to try the assessment before doing the course, Nicola, has missed the point of what I was asking, the point I was making was not that the course was too slow for me, it was that I knew a sufficient amount of knowledge about said subject to pass the assessment without the need for doing the course, as proven with this course I turned the volume down to zero and was doing another job on another computer and purely clicking next when I noticed the button change to orange, and yet I still passed first time, proving I knew enough about the subject before the training to be considered competent. I feel this means that should I have spent the time reading and listening to the course, this time would have been wasted, where as I was actually able to spend that time doing other tasks. Now should I have taken the assessment before the course and failed I would have been happy to work through the material as I would clearly have needed the training. I hope this helps you understand my point and I hope you take it under review.

Hello Richard, Thank you for your reply we appreciate it. I do apologise, I understood your review however I just wanted to help by suggesting the option to increase the course speed as you do need to work through the full course in order to complete the assessment. I'm afraid as a training provider we have a moral responsibility to ensure our users are taking the time to read and understand the information in front of them and there would be a risk of learners not sitting the course and just doing the assessment. I'm afraid we won't be able to change this as we have to ensure that when people purchase a course with us and when they get their certification that they have sat the course in full, legislation changes over time and we can only provide a learner with a certificate if they have read through the whole course. There is a high risk that if the learner just goes straight to the assessment they may pass however they won't have taken in all the up to date information throughout the course. I will be sure to pass your comments onto our support team though Richard so they can take this into consideration. We really appreciate you taking the time to get in touch. Should you need anything in the future, please don't hesitate to contact us directly. All the best, Nicola (Customer Support, High Speed Training)

The certificate states that the “course explains the risks and controls needed when working with abrasive wheels”, and it does nothing more than telling you the risks and controls that need to be considered. It does not explain how to implement them or how you should or shouldn’t use abrasive wheels or much about how to maintain or check their safety. The course is not suitable to provide any level of competency in the use, maintenance or inspection of abrasive wheels without further training, and if it suggested it was anything other than a comprehensive guide to the legislation, then it is misrepresenting what it provides. In addition, there are several inconsistencies in the material, for instance when it initially lists the dangers associated with the use of abrasive wheels, it ignores the risk of entanglement - probably the second biggest risk, but it appears in later parts of the course. Some other dangers, such as the risk of burns from material getting hot during grinding (probably the most frequent form of injury) do not seem to be mentioned. I’m not sure if it is the sound on my computer/headphones but the voice-over (computer generated) had a hissing, lisp on ‘S’ sounds which becomes annoying when they frequently use phrases about “Sssspecssific risssk assssesssments for abrassssive wheelsssssssss…”

Hello John, thank you for your review and feedback! I’m really sorry to hear that you haven’t had a good experience. Our abrasive wheels training course is an introductory course (as stated on the website) to provide the theoretical knowledge needed to understand the legislation and work safely with abrasive wheels, including the control measures that can be used to eliminate and reduce risks. Taking this course alone will not make someone competent to carry out risk assessments, enforce controls or work with abrasive wheels safely. Competence means having the suitable knowledge, skills, experience and training needed to be able to carry out your duties safely. This training will need to be supplemented with face to face training on your specific workplace and how to use your particular control measures. Additionally, every workplace and work activity will need to be risk assessed and appropriate controls will need to be chosen. In this course we have explained the types of controls available and then it's up to the competent person carrying out the risk assessment to adapt and implement this information to their workplace, selecting the right controls for their activities and environment. If there is any doubt about implementing controls, it's important to consult the manufacturer or a specialist. We will absolutely take your feedback on board and look into it when we come to update the course. Additionally, we are constantly working with our audio artists to provide a good service for our customers, therefore, we will also keep the feedback in regards to the voiceover in mind for the future! Many thanks, Kaz (Customer Support, High Speed Training)

I honestly cant see the point of this, its cheap and cheerful I suppose. Without being taught face to face and shown how to change a cutting disk specifically on the machines in your workplace theres little or no advantage to the end user. Its ticks a box for the employer but thats about it

Hello, thank you for leaving a review. We always encourage learners to supplement online training with practical training, as this would allow them to put their knowledge that they learned from this course into practice where they can specialise specifically for their work environment. Online learning has also provided a supplement for training that may not have been able to be carried out properly during the pandemic due to COVID-19 restrictions, and so it offers something that the employer can do that will at least make sure that their employees have some form of training. If you have any other queries, please do contact us by emailing support@highspeedtraining.co.uk or by calling 0333 006 7000. All the best, Chloe (Customer Support, High Speed Training)

Basic text materials presented with dry audio and lacking any sort of quality to drive information retention. I won't be recommending this course to others unless they are looking for a compliance box-ticking exercise. Look elsewhere if you actually want to provide engaging and retentive courses.

Bad !! The course kept freezing then when I got to the most important part , the assessment it was not initially letting me submit my answers . The whole screen was suddenly no longer visible and it was extremely frustrating. This is a shame as the actual course content was good.

Your question on pc monitors ,why have you put this question in inches and not metric ,also a quick google search eyes should be level with the top of the screen So why do you have it different in the test Your question on havs I put hammer ,but the answer was drill I think the hammer would be worse don’t you

Hi Martin, thank you for your review and feedback! In regards to the pc monitors, we are in the process of updating all content that contains this information. For the HAVS question, the correct answer is drills because they pose a high risk of vibration due to their mechanical operation. There may be some risk from manual hammers but it certainly wouldn't be worse than an electric drill. I have passed your feedback onto our Content Department to look into this a little further but in the meantime please be assured that drills are higher risk. I hope this helps, but if you have any queries, please don’t hesitate to get in touch directly! All the best, Kaz (Customer Support, High Speed Training)

Hi James! Thank you so much for your review and kind words! I was just wondering if you are happy to possibly revise your star rating as 3 Stars, or less, is considered a "Negative Review" and can affect how other customers view our training. To do this, please refer back to the "Congratulations" e-mail that you received when you finished the training. If you re-review the course it will change your star rating. If you'd like any other information, please feel free to contact us directly on 0333 006 7000 or support@highspeedtraining.co.uk. We're here Monday - Friday, 9am - 5pm. Final exam pass mark is too high and doesn't account for the difficulty of doing a practical course online. Most items covered on the course are completely irrelevant to my work place which is at sea and flying in remote areas abroad.

Hello Simon, Thank you for your review and feedback, we really appreciate it. I would recommend having a chat with your employer if you found the course irrelevant to your workplace as they may want to consider a more specific course based at the sector you work within. Thank you for your feedback regarding the pass mark I will be sure to pass this onto our content team, please keep in mind that you can have as many attempts at the assessment as needed to pass. Should you need anything in the future, please don't hesitate to contact us directly. All the best, Nicola (Customer Support, High Speed Training)
