“The process to measure, receive, and install the windows was excellent. My only problem is there are placed in the double hung windows of my 120 year old home. Placing against the bottom sash works well, but there's a 2 inch space to the frame/glass of the upper sash. I can't push against the top and upper sides to install the insert tightly as it isn't against anything. Not sure how I would have measured to make this tighter. I think a particular problem with oriel double hungs with a larger lower sash.”

“Overall, I think the inserts are an innovative idea to improve insulation in the house. However, I was expecting them to be thicker than what I received. The samples in the measurement kit is thicker than the actual insert.”

Gordon, Thanks for the review. We are surprised to hear that you believe the insert thickness does not match the samples sent with the measurement kit. The samples are indeed made from the same material used in the production of the inserts. We, of course, have no intention of providing anyone with any inaccurate information regarding our products at any time. Your order was placed for the standard grade inserts at nominally 1/8" thickness. Perhaps you are remembering the thickness of the acoustic grade (thicker) samples included in the swatch deck? We, of course, are happy to discuss this and any other issue with you. Thanks again for the feedback.

“We live on a fairly busy and noisy street. The main reason why I thought these inserts were a good idea. Although they didn’t achieve 100% noise reduction it was a significant improvement over no inserts. Very appreciative of the product and the improvement in our quality of life. Keep up the good work.”

“Good quality window insert that really cut down the noise!! Install was easy overall, but the corners were tricky and not sure they're in quite right. That said, it cut down the noise substantially, which is what we wanted. Not 5 stars only due to the non-intuitve corners install and cost. Is it worth it? If you have the money it is, but still seems high for the materials.”

“I would recommend these inserts. They help cutting the noise and increase insulation. However, I have large ones and they are not very easy to re-install if you need to take them out for any reason after they have been installed by the Indows representative. A video on how to install them would help!”

“This insert was ordered for a window between 2 offices (all interior walls) due to the amount of noise. We had the wall filled with insullation, which made little-no improvement. Our next step was this window insert. Very quiet noise cannot be heard through the indow window now, but everything else is still very clear and loud, overall about a 20% improvement. We have a drop tile ceiling, which is likely the biggest problem, and not something we, as tennents, are able to change. The insert was easy to install, but 1 section of the instructions was VERY confusiong - the chain part, due to the size of the window. Online, the video's do not demonstrate inserts requiring the saftey chain, and the written instructions provide no description on how these are to be installed. Overall, I think the product is great, it just isn't as helpful as we were hoping for our space.”

Lindsey, Thanks for the feedback. We re happy to hear that the insert is reducing noise. You bring up an important point about the drop tile ceiling (and other such constuction elements). There are indeed quite a few factors to consider when solving a noise entering a room. Sorry for any confusion regarding the safety chains. On inserts larger than 8 sq. ft., the safety chains are used to avoid falling out and down if dislodged from the indow cavity. We are sorry if your did not receive the instructions normally included for the attachement of the safety chain brackets. The brackets are easily installd with one screw once determining the correct placement. Thanks againg for your review.

“Despite only two-out-of-three living room windows being covered with Indow inserts (the third window's sill depth was too shallow), street traffic is notably muffled and the room is much quieter. The inserts were placed in front of two single-pane aluminum-framed windows while the third window, with its original wood frame, affords better soundproofing. I wasn't sure this partial solution was going to work but I am pleased that it did.”

We are generally cautious of using such partial solutions, as sound can enter through neglected openings. However, as in your case, some partial solutions can indeed be very effective. “The inserts are working as expected and are doing a great job reducing street noise. My areas for improvement: - Waited 5 months to receive them. I understand that this is due to supply chain issues (i.e., uncontrollable factors) but I felt that the communication could have been better. Every email was a generic "We'll let you know when it ships". At a minimum, maybe let me know my position in the queue? - I really wish there was a "managed service" option (i.e. pay extra to have someone come measure the windows and install the inserts when they arrive). I'm TERRIBLE when it comes to any DIY home improvement and was stressed I didn't measure correctly. I even had to hire a contractor to plug the inserts in (and do related work like re-installing the blinds)”

We certainly understand that the supply chain issues and the longer lead times were less than ideal. While we certainly did our best to communicate details to our customers throughout the process, it was not always possible to give accurate projections due to constantly changing realities. We certainly continue to learn each day about how to navigate these issues and communicate them more effectively. We appreciate your engagement in that process. While we are glad that you were able to get assistance to do the measuring and associated tasks, we certainly understand that this process can have its challenges. “Insert fits perfectly and the transparent part is clear to the point of being nearly invisible. The insert is a bit heavy (which is to be expected given the size of my window) and inserting it does take a bit of time and patience, which would be annoying if I'd want to frequently remove it in order to e.g. open a window, but luckily that is not the case for where I installed the inset. The main downsides are that it took a long time to receive the panel after I ordered it (making me hesitant to order a second one, even though I do have a second window that could use one) and they are not particularly cheap.”

Thank you especially for mentioning the fit and the "nearly invisible" quality of the optical-grade acrylic we use. Large inserts can be a bit challenging to maneuver by one person. We do recommend an extra hand for inserts above a certain size. While we now are seeing some easing in the supply issues and have begun to adjust lead times down accordingly, we understand that delays had a great impact on our customers. We certainly appreciate your patience and would be happy to get the other insert ordered for you when you are ready. We understand that our products are a considered purchase, but as you have helped highlight here, they are a great option, built for lasting performance and continued return on investment over the years. “Pretty pleased with the inserts overall. We guestimate that road noise levels have been reduced in our bedroom by about 50%. Installation was super easy. The only bummer was the lead time. I think we waited about 4 months from the time we ordered to product delivery. Overall, happy with the product & this company does have really good customer service.”

Because sound environments vary and different frequencies behave differently, it is indeed difficult to achieve noise reduction "perfection." However, while noise can be finicky, the considerable dose of quiet our inserts can provide makes a big difference.

“I was so excited to get my noise reduction indow windows. We have a freight train that runs behind our house. After waiting 3 1/2 months we finally got our windows. They were delivered without any issues. We followed the installation instructions. All the windows fit like they should, except for one, the most important one, our BEDROOM! That insert seemed a little off. It did not fit as snug as the rest. After a month with the windows, we find that the train noise is muffled. By no means is the noise totally cancelled out. At first I was disappointed, there’s really not much we can do at this point. It is what it is. At least I’m not being woken up by the train at night. I can now hear the TV when a train goes by. So I guess the windows are doing the best they can for our situation. I won’t know how much energy we are saving yet. We live in Florida. Next summer will be telling.”

“The 4 month wait was way to long , the fit was tight the thought of removing them to open a window for a cool Day etc is really not something you want to do just because of the work it take to get back in and seal just right,as far as the sound benefits yes it works except for the loud trucks and motorcycles. I live on a corner lot and my wife complained all the time about the noise since we installed the indow windows she no longer minds it”

Thanks for the question. Yes, the manufacturing sector has experienced extended supply chain and labor issues related to the pandemic. Both acrylic and silicone supply and distribution channels were affected. We have worked hard to limit the effects on lead times and communicate delays throughout. We have also taken steps to increase our production potential in anticipation of the resolution of supply chain issues. We are beginning to see indications of such resolutions and project a return to reduced lead times in the near future.
