“Because it was quick in the A&E, receptionists were polite and patient. They had good security. Decent food where some hospitals haven’t. Found it good that they took there time in sorting me out instead of wanting to just chuck me out.
Did find the ward clean too.”
“Leicester Royal Infirmary Maternity Ward
My sister recently gave birth here, and the treatment we received was absolutely appalling – we were both left traumatised by the experience.
From the start, staff were incredibly rude and dismissive, and refused to listen to anything we said. When my sister was in active labour, the baby’s monitor kept alarming repeatedly, yet no one came to check on her or the baby for a long time.
She asked for an epidural multiple times, and every time they told her “not yet”. On the final occasion she asked, a midwife told us she had already called the anaesthetist – but when we eventually spoke to them, they confirmed no one had contacted them at all. When I asked for basic pain relief for my sister, it took over an hour to arrive.
One midwife was extremely rough throughout: she physically pulled away my sister’s amniotic sac, which caused her severe pain. Later, she shoved gauze inside her and scrubbed roughly, without any warning or care. As a result of this rough handling, my sister suffered internal tearing severe enough that she had to undergo emergency surgery.
While she was pushing, staff kept shouting at her to “calm down” and were unnecessarily forceful with her. When they went to scan her wristband, she was holding tightly to the bed rail in pain – instead of asking her to move, they forcibly pulled her hand away.
We felt completely ignored, unheard and mistreated at every turn. This was one of the worst experiences imaginable, and I would never recommend this maternity unit to anyone. I truly hope no other family has to go through what we did.”
“Ward 17 visited with my 92 yr lady , she was visiting her friend.
I asked 2 nurse's who were just chatting if there was a spare chair for to sit on next to the bed .
I was told "go over there that's where there are chairs" .
No offer of help , no offer of assistance.
There were no spare chairs the Deputy sister sitting behind the desk said take this one .
What concerning was the lack of consideration towards the elderly lady .
They never moved they carried on chatting.
All the nurses has seats to sit on .
Very poor .”
“I visited a n e with shortness of breath and chest pain. The staff were incredible, I was triaged straight away this included and ECG. After concluding my symptoms were not immediately life threatening, I did wait along time for other investigations. However the staff were polite, sensitive and empathetic. Those poor staff are working in an incredibly difficult service, I witnessed patients being rude to staff constantly and they all maintained their professionalism. Patients with little respect for the environment, other patients and staff. Staff and service was amazing. Thank you all”
“Ward 24, the staff have been rude. Had a sister laugh in my face when asking for pain relief. I am supposed to have pain relief every 2 hours. I have had to ask many times for my pain relief & had to wait maximum of two hours until they give it me also after asking around four nurses.
I have a wound on my foot which was left for 5-6 hours before it was changed yesterday & today I have waited 7 hours for a dressing & currently still waiting again after asking about 5-6 times.
I’ve also had a nurse sit outside the ward watching me eat my food which put me off eating.
No one listens! I have seen other patients ignored when they have needed help!
Absolutely no care on this ward at all!!!”
“Took my husband to A And E. The receptionist thinks they are the Dr them self. He was bleeding from his nose. The receptionist told me to go and see his Dr surgery. But the his surgery told me to take him to hospital. They told me he could be seen by his Dr. I told them he is bleeding because he is alcoholic. Then they told me to go to Turing point. Both of them look at each other and smiling and was laughing. They made me look like if I was idiot. You can stay here or take him to your Dr surgery. Wish I took their names. They make you fill small. She told me he is not bleeding now. Bleeding meens poring blood out of his nose . I told them I am going home. I will naver go to Royal infantry Leicester again. Need to sort the staffs out.”
“I would like to say that felt like I was NOT believed by on nurse in particular my husband showed her a videos of me having my none epileptic fits which was really bad at the time and a photo of me with my lip on one side she she said we should just go home. 😡”
“I had planed surgery last week on Tuesday 5th May 2026 at LRI
I was at the LRI Surgical day ward and I had the most nicest experience from going in to leaving. I felt very nervous about having my procedure done but honestly the staff from start to finish was absolutely outstanding. I am so rubbish with peoples names and really wish I had asked them even know they told me but all the staff that day including all theatre staff was amazing. They was giving me reassurances throughout the day I had the most nicest nurse who was with me until I went in to surgery and was collected by x2 lovey other staff and put on the other day ward until I was able to be discharged. Everyone was professional and absolute amazing I can’t thank you all enough even the student nurse in theatre, along with the other Lady who hold my hand all the way through. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. You all owe your self so much credit and deserve the very best 🩷”
“Title: Misdiagnosis at Leicester Royal Infirmary - A Cautionary Tale
I'm writing this review to express my disappointment and concern about my experience at Leicester Royal Infirmary. I was seen by a doctor who, I believe, wasn't equipped to deal with my kidney issue. They suggested I might have permanent kidney damage, which understandably caused me a lot of stress.
However, as it turns out, my kidneys have fully recovered, and I'm now questioning the accuracy of the diagnosis. The doctor wasn't a kidney specialist, and it showed. I felt like they were unsure and throwing around worst-case scenarios.
Be cautious if you're seeing a non-specialist for complex issues. I hope they review their diagnostic processes to prevent others from going through unnecessary worry.
1/5 stars, and would not recommend for complex diagnoses.”
“In my opinion ,some of the nurses were caring and efficient but ,I am sorry to say others were full of bad attitude, the question has to be asked," are they tired and overworked" or maybe "had or having a bad day" or do they simply not like nursing, I hope I never have to go in there again. it was a horrible experience .”
“I was treated with care and respect at leicester royal infirmary. I attended a&e yesterday and unfortunately I got worse whilst I was there. I was helped into a room and tended to immediately.”
“I am writing to express my concern regarding my recent visit to your Adult Emergency department. While I want to acknowledge the kindness and professionalism of the staff—particularly the first doctor I saw, who was friendly and made me feel comfortable—I am deeply troubled by the overall experience and the lack of timely medical intervention.
I arrived at approximately 16:45 and was not discharged until around 07:00 the following morning. During this time, I was sitting waiting on a bench in cold and uncomfortable conditions, without access to food or adequate support. My legs became swollen, and I felt increasingly unwell.
nurses took my blood pressure and consistently noted that it was high,he was even worried about it ,I was informed that the doctor had been notified, yet no action was taken to address this. Despite assurances that I would be seen “at once,” I was not provided with any treatment or medication to manage my blood pressure throughout the night.
In the morning, I was told everything was fine and discharged, but I remain concerned that no steps were taken to investigate or manage my elevated blood pressure, which could have posed serious health risks.
I understand that staffing pressures may have contributed to delays, but I believe that basic comfort, communication, and clinical care should not be compromised. I would appreciate a review of this incident and clarification on how such situations are handled to ensure patient safety and dignity.
Thank you for your time and attention.”
“My daughter was abused and mistreated and lied about by 2 scumbag physios Caroline Farthing and Laura Meadows wholied saying she could walk freely around the hispital but strangely she cannit wak nearly 3 months later. These 2 should be sacked.fir incompetence and lying about a vulnerable patient who theyhave never met. Somepeople will say anything to try and be in favour with management. Shame on you.”
“My daughter went in with jaundice and aserious infection around ger liver and needed a blood transfusion because she was losing all of her blood cells and platelets. She was recovering in wRd 15 but was transferred to general wRd 47 where treatment was shocking. All the junior doctor and registrar wanted to do was discharge patients. Please note they trued to duscharge my adult daughter 3 times even though she was unable to walk and eventually they discharged her after 12 days in hospital on 1st July. She was taken home in a wheelchair in an ambulance because she could not walk and the district nurses had to visit fir the next 12 days and the community physio is coming every week to try and help with her kick if mobility. Unfortunately the discharge letter was a fabrication if lies. It stated she was in hospital for 4 days but was now mobile and well when she was in with a serious infection and is still unable to walk. I have tried times to get a true discharge letter and complained to PALS and the CEO but total waste if time since they keep saying discharge letter is accurate but are unwilling to give my daughter her medical records which would prove hiw ill she is. I put an official complaint in and I couldn't believe the outcome. 2 senior Physio wrote the letter Caroline Farthing and Lisa Meadows and stated that they had seen my seriously ill daughter freely walk round the ward and she told them how well she felt. Please note these liars have never met my daughter. Because of the discharge letter my daughter has had no treatment or medication from her GP. The community nurses and community physio are well aware and social services Leicester that my daughter has no mobility. She is having to try and stand with a walker and has a commode in her bedroom because she cannot walk to the bathroom. I decided to ho to the Parliamentary Ombudsman but surprise surprise PALS have reopened a new complaint which is exactly the sMe as the first one made in July. They are going round and round in circles obviously trying to waste time. Unfortunately my daughter us quite unwell. I dont know what to do about treatment or medication. I want to ring 111 or 999 but she does not want to go back to that hospital where she was do badly treated.”
“Sent to A&E by GP... as someone who is immune suppressed and gets ill very easily to be squashed in a crowd of ill and bleeding people made getting treatment inaccessible. Left without treatment. Still in pain.”
“Ward 35 idu michelle nurse what a wonderful person nothing to much for her she looked after my daughter emma so nice helpful happy you dont get many like her”
“My father in law has started chemo recently. During our visits we came across a lovely lady called POULAMI KARMAKAR who is always at reception in oncology Osborne building. She is the most helpful staff member I have ever seen. She listens to patients and relatives and always try her best to help and sort out problems as much as possible.
I normally don't write reviews but wrote it especially to appreciate her.”
“My mum arrived at the leic royal with a broken hip . She was looked after very well by all the nursing staff on ward 18 . My mum really liked solis as she made her feel comfortable and less embarrassed with using commode . Lovely girl and all staff were great who were always on hand to help . Thankyou everyone 🩷”
“Attended A&E majors with my elderly mother everyone looking after her was lovely but none of them were a fully qualified doctor, let alone an actual consultant. Can you actually call yourself a hospital if you are not fully appropriately staffed. It was a dangerous day for anyone turning up who wasn't easy to diagnose. My offence to the nice unqualified people trying to prop it up but maybe go out on strike to provide an actual safe hospital environment rather than play along with the charade.”
