“Service is always excellent at Lion - both on the phone and in person when collecting from Birmingham. Staff are quick to put right any problems. My only criticism would be the quality of some of the mouldings - in particular the natural woods. Some have scratches, scores and imperfections and a black moulding I have just used (L1648) was bent so I had to waste some of the moulding. I sometimes wonder whether there is much quality control. However, when I have sent photos of the damaged mouldings, staff offer reimbursement although obviously can't do anything to compensate for the time wasted. My only other criticism is the stringent criteria that customers have to meet to have a delivery - £50 worth of moulding and 10 sheets of mountboard. As a one man band, 10 sheets of mountboard is a lot which I can rarely meet and therefore necessitates a 3 hour round trip to Birmingham.”

“Very friendly and well informed staff. Good range of stock. Slight frustration that mouldings are often faulty, with damage or finishes that vary too much from stick-to-stick, and I'd like a bit more effort to check stock before it's sold. Having said that, whenever I've had a problem it is invariably put right without delay. My only other criticism would be that the trade counter can sometimes appear undermanned, on Monday mornings especially.”

“Lion, as well as many other suppliers still have a problem with quality control of mouldings. Mouldings are sent out damaged, twisted etc. I know this is not all Lion's fault - it is how they are sent from the manufacturer, but it does cause us, the customer problems. We have to check each delivery as soon as it arrives, you can't assume that it will be OK just because the packaging isn't damaged. What is the answer??? Perhaps someone a lot further up the chain could look into it? That said, the staff at Lion are always very helpful and sort out problems (that shouldn't be there) straight away”

“I think the range of framing materials is outstanding and I particularly like the way items are described in the catalogue. There is also plenty of choice where similar items are listed. The range of mouldings is impressive - I would like to see more traditional shapes included however. Carriage prices are reasonable. I don't like your minimum pricing rules - I would prefer to be able to buy goods for less than £30. Your prices and carriage could reflect any inconvenience caused to your company.”
