“Overall: It was fabulous and Villa Menaggio exceeded our expectations Enjoyed Most: The space , the view, the cleanliness. Enjoyed Least: No English speaking TV except BBC news. Even the DVD player didn't work with our DVDs. Wifi was good, though. Surrounding Area: The beauty and the transportation system, ferries, buses. Shops, restaurants. Everything. We fell in love with Menaggio. Nearby Events or Locales: Menaggio. It was within walking distance but not for someone who is not fit and used to walking about a mile each way (a scenic one!) Directions: No. We did not rent a car. Check In Out: It was perfect in every way.”

“Overall: We had a wonderful time at the villa. The view of Lake Como was beautiful. The owner was very accommodating. She arranged a chef for 2 nights and helped us order food delivered from a deli. Enjoyed Most: The view of the lake. We especially liked the bathroom with every bedroom. Everyone had privacy when they needed it. We were 15 people and everyone had their own space. Enjoyed Least: The information given on the 10 minute walk to the city should be changed to 20 t0 30 minute walk. Surrounding Area: There isn't much in the surrounding area as it is a neighborhood and marina. We really liked going to the dock and taking the ferries to the various cities around the lake. Really a beautiful lake. We booked several day trips. St Moritz, Como, Lake Lugano. Nearby Events or Locales: 20 to30 minute walk to the grocery and bakery. Menaggio was the nearest town. A car would have been convenient for grocery and bakery shopping. We had taxi service. Tips or Restaurants: The villa is well equipped. Directions: We had limo service from Icare Limo. They were very good. I would recommend them. Check In Out: The owner picked us up at the Hotel Menaggio and drove us and our luggage to the villa. We were the first four to arrive. The others came by limo.S he checked us in and came to say goodbye when we departed.”

“Overall: Our overall experience was excellent. Enjoyed Most: The view, pool, location, and the patios. Enjoyed Least: The living room furniture was uncomfortable and there was poor reception on the TV. There was also some noise from the bar/restaurant in the marina on Thursday and Friday night. Surrounding Area: There are many beautiful towns within and hour's drive that were great day excursions. Nearby Events or Locales: Massa Lubrense, yes Tips or Restaurants: The two restaurants in the marina are great. Directions: We had a driver, arranged through RentVillas.”

“Overall: This is a breathtaking villa and it very comfortably handled three couples. Enjoyed Most: The view and the pool area. Surrounding Area: The wine festival and procession was fun to watch. Nearby Events or Locales: Priora is a 5 min walk;Sorrento is a 30 min walk. Tips or Restaurants: Get your bus passes in Sorrento before going to the villa. Walk to Sorrento (downhill) but take the bus back. Directions: Just tell your drive that the property is across the street from the Il Niro hotel.”

“Overall: The villa was beautiful as was the view. It was also very quiet and romantic. Enjoyed Most: It was great having our own kitchen and washing machine. We also liked the way it was decorated and the location of the property in relation to the town of Positano. Enjoyed Least: Lack of screens. The water pressure in the shower. Also getting to the street from the villa was 75 steps up. Surrounding Area: The view, the people, the restaurants were great. Nearby Events or Locales: Positano. Yes downtown Positano, beaches, restaurants and shops are all within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: If you're staying for a week to two weeks you need to purchase or bring soap, shampoo, toilet paper, paper towels, tissues, laundry detergent. etc. If you plan to cook bring spices. All the restaurants we went to were excellent. All within walking distance from our villa. Directions: Very hard to park in Positano so we did not rent a car. We either hired a driver or took the local buses.”

“Overall: We loved Villa Maggiore. The beautiful home was a perfect setting for a family and friends reunion. We spent most of our time sitting out on the back porch catching up and taking in the incredible view. It could not have been a better choice for all of us. Enjoyed Most: One of my favorite parts of the house was the incredible kitchen that was so well stocked. The house felt very spacious and bright with so many places to sit and take in the views. Enjoyed Least: Driving back and forth to town. Surrounding Area: I loved visiting the Borromean Islands, incredibly beautiful and magical. The area was very peaceful and it was easy to travel from town to town. We also went to visit Lake Orta for the day and visited Isola San Giulio. I traveled all over Italy after visiting this area and some of these islands were my best memories. Nearby Events or Locales: Meina was the closest town but the hill was very steep coming back up to the villa from town so it is walking distance but a strenuous one. We chose to drive most of the time. Tips or Restaurants: I loved the small grocery store in Meina. It had most of what we needed and a great selection of cheeses and meats. The bakery across from it was very yummy too. The kitchen was well equipped so it was a joy to cook there. Directions: We used our GPS quite a bit because the streets can be tricky there until you get used to lay of the land. Check In Out: The owners met us upon arrival and were so helpful in seeing that we got settled and introduced to the property. You could tell that they take much pride and care of their property and making sure that their visitors are satisfied. At check out the owner met us at the house to gather keys and collect cleaning fees for cleaning service. I ended up forgetting an item at the villa and the owners sent it to me at my next stop in Italy. We were so impressed with the care and quality of our stay and services.”

Tips or Restaurants: Our last night we found a great restaurant. Directions: Would have been very difficult without GPS--lots of curves driving up to villa. Check In Out: Was very professional. “Overall: We had a wonderful family reunion at this villa. It was perfect for us. The Villa was beautiful and easily accommodated 16 of us. It is furnished in antiques with many frescos and original oil paintings. The villa was both beautifully restored and maintained in excellent condition. The tennis court and swimming pool are in excellent condition. There is even an internet connection. The bedrooms are all a very good size, as are the baths. The food and service were excellent. Lucca is only a few minutes away and is a wonderful town with nice shops and restaurants. The Villa is also close to the autostrada which makes it easy to go to other places in the region. There are many day trips that can be made from the Villa. Enjoyed Most: Overall appearance and comfort of the Villa; the food; and the service. Enjoyed Least: Nothing. Surrounding Area: Beautiful area. Lucca is a charming town with a number of nice stores and restaurants. Nearby Events or Locales: There are a number of day trips from the Villa: hill towns, Pisa, Cinque Terra, Florence, Vinci, beach and Carrera mable fields. Tips or Restaurants: Take advantage of Guiseppi's (manager's) knowledge of Italian wine and olive oil.”

“Overall: The experience was amazing. The villa, its history and the views of Capri, Vesuvius and even Naples in the distance were spectacular. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and there were many areas to sit and enjoy the views and relax. We celebrated my 50th birthday with family and friends. The staff at the villa were attentive and so helpful with anything we needed from dinner reservations to special breakfast requests. Enjoyed Most: The views and the location and the beautiful grounds. And I cannot forget about the staff. Wonderful Surrounding Area: Quiet, small village, away from the crowds and cars. Nearby Events or Locales: Nearest town, Massa Lubrense. Could walk, but I wouldn't Tips or Restaurants: If you want a Michelin Star experience, go to Don Alfonso in Sant' Agata. Who knew a 2 Michelin Star restaurant in a small village. And get a tour of the wine cellar that consists of 3 rooms, one from the 17th century, one from the 15th century and a 6th Century tunnel they found 30 years ago that leads to a well where they age their own cheese. Spectacular! Directions: We had car service. Check In Out: Everything was flawless. They even accommodated our early arrival”

“Overall: A delightful experience living like a local, in an unusual villa, with an historical Saracen Tower! Enjoyed Most: The views and the beautiful furnishings. All the bedrooms were furnished with care and imagination. The place had great character reflecting the owner's sense of Italian history in this area.It was a great home with various levels affording privacy for different guests. The views were beautiful. Enjoyed Least: The internet didn't work most of the time. The pool is small, but since it was too cool to swim, for us this wasn't an issue. In the summer heat, it is probably great to cool off. Surrounding Area: This is a great area, close to Sorrento and Positano. Easy access to Capri. We explored the coast, even driving all the way to Amalfi, although in the summer this is probably a greater challenge with tour buses. We enjoyed seeing the coast and sampling restaurants along the way. Nearby Events or Locales: Massa Lubrense is the town we were in, and therefore, it was an easy walk from the villa to explore the little town which had interesting restaurants and shops...making us feel like locals. There was a coffee bar where we headed each morning for a cappuccino and pastry. Italian coffee is the best! Tips or Restaurants: Don't try and park in the villa's parking spaces...park on the street and walk up the villa via a long steep driveway. When we were met by the caretakers, they suggested we leave the car parked on the street and forego driving up the very narrow and steep driveway. They offered to bring our luggage up for us. We bravely decided to drive up the driveway and park at the top. The next day we moved the car to the steet, and no longer braved the driveway challenge. We walked up from the moment on. It was good exercise. Directions: We had no trouble finding the Villa and called an hour before arriving just to make sure it would be no problem. They met us at the property. Check In Out: Check in/check out was no problem.”

“Overall: The villa was spectacular - like being on a movie set. Overall it was a wonderful property inside and out. Enjoyed Most: The size of the bedrooms and ensuites, the quality of furnishings and decorations, the views and the flowers outdoors, the amount of space for 4 couples. The location for day tripping and the village. Surrounding Area: The Cathar castles, Carcassonne, abbeys and churches and too many vineyards and wine cellars to count. Many outdoor activities hiking, biking, kayaking etc. Nearby Events or Locales: The villa was in the village of Limoux. Many shops and restaurants a short walk away. Tips or Restaurants: Ici La has amazing ice cream and live music on Friday night. We enjoyed Tantine and Tanton. The two star Michelin restaurant Le Parc in Carcassonne is worth the cost. Directions: We used a GPS but the directions were perfect. Check In Out: The hosts were very accommodating for our early arrival.”

“Overall: This is a wonderful property with a wonderful owner and excellent staff. It is an ideal place from which to explore Tuscany. It is easy access to A11 and Florence as well as to the beach. Lucca is a great, great town and you could spend days wandering and shopping and listening to the summer concert series there. It would be hard to imagine a nicer villa - but n.b. that this is an elegant property with antiques and formal spaces, it is not a cozy farmhouse, but a serious villa. Nevertheless our young children of 8 and 6 loved it there. Enjoyed Most: Everything. Enjoyed Least: It would be helpful for the property to have a clothes dryer. Surrounding Area: Lucca is one of our favorite towns, now. The walk through the back gate into Vorno is charming and a wonderful way to walk to and from dinner at Il Bimbetto in Vorno. Nearby Events or Locales: Vorno. Yes - down a fragrant path next to a vineyard and olive orchard. Vorno has one establishment that serves as bar, restaurant and corner store and a church. Tips or Restaurants: Il Bimbetto is wonderful in Vorno - you could eat there many nights as much for the food as the walk to and from - the owner is Italian-born but raised in Ohio - many Americans seem to eat here regularly. Lucca has a number of nice restaurants that are very convenient to the villa - the best being Buca di S. Antonio. La Mescita in Pisa is a great restaurant but no English is spoken and it is hard to find. Gelateria Venezia is the best gelato in Lucca. Remember to pack toiletries and call in advance to have the refrigerator stocked and wine purchased.”

Near the beach, near groceries, near bars and restaurants, near a fabulous city. Surrounding Area: I loved being walking distance to the beach. The water and sand were gorgeous. Rethymno was also an amazing city with a gorgeous harbour. Nearby Events or Locales: Rethymno and yes. Tips or Restaurants: All the restaurants we went to were great with really friendly service. “Overall: Fantastic. The owners/caretakers were generous with their time. Helpful with any minor questions. The view is amazing and the villa spectacular. Enjoyed Most: The villa is modern and clean. All amenities are available, including beach towels, lounge chairs on the multiple decks with umbrellas.Laura loves to cook. Without asking, the first night she made us Sangria. The second, a zucchini pie that was to kill for. A few days later, when we asked for the recipe she invited us into her home next door and made it with us. Amazing...The nicest hosts I have ever had, and I am doing this for 4 years... Enjoyed Least: No American coffee maker. You were able to make coffee, but only one or two cups at a time. Although we had two sets of directions and almost got there, if you miss the last right turn, it is very difficult to find. When we called Laura, she offered to come and get us....which she did. Surrounding Area: You can walk to the town, which is quite nice. The beach is also within walking distance as are the restaurants. There is a large modern supermarket, shopping abounds and the adjoining towns have terrific beaches where for a nominal fee you can rent both chairs with cushions and umbrellas. Nearby Events or Locales: The local town of Imperia is surrounded by beautiful towns, but not really within walking distance. But since you will need a car to get to the villa, everything is within 10 minutes. Tips or Restaurants: Since this villa offers the option of having some basic food shopping done before you arrive, I would take advantage of this. If there is anything specific you require, Laura and Carlo will try to have it ready for you. We enjoyed the waterfront front restaurants. the kitchen is fully supplied The bathrooms have ample towels and the maid comes in on Tuesday and Thursday for no additional fee. Directions: The hill is severely curvy, uphilland VERY narrow. My suggestion is to Call Laura or Carlo once you get to Diano Calderina to get help. Check In Out: Very informal. Since they live next door, they were very accommodating about what time we arrived and departed.”

“Overall: A once in a lifetime experience at this spectacular historic castello. Enjoyed Most: The setting, the authenticity and the superb staff. Enjoyed Least: Nothing, we loved it. Surrounding Area: Easy access to Castelfiorentino, Certaldo, Volterra, San Gimignano, Siena and Firenze. Excellent train station in Castelfiorentino, and supermercato Coop's. Nearby Events or Locales: Castelfiorentino, easy walk to town... Ride back to the villa. Tips or Restaurants: Bring the kids and grandkids. Excellent restaurants in Certaldo Alto and Basso. Directions: Used GPS, no problem. Check In Out: Easy check in/out facilitated by the staff.”
