Overall: We enjoyed a very memorable 9 days at Villa Senese. The property is gorgeous, with an honorable history, fantastic views and accommodations. The owner is very gracious and helpful. Enjoyed Most: Gorgeous property and views. Wonderful owner and staff. On-site winery. Enjoyed Least: Catering cost is separate from the property rental. Surrounding Area: The property is about 5 km from the heart of Siena (if you do not get lost), and about 40 km from San Gimignano. Nearby Events or Locales: Ponte Bozzone is within walking distance. Its two restaurants are fantastic. Check In Out: The directions stated check out at 9 am, and we prepared to leave by then... except the staff hadn't arrived yet. Apparently, it was news to them that the check out was then. On the positive side, the owner wanted us to stay for an extra day without charge. The problem was that many of us had planes to catch.

Surrounding Area: Lake Garda; availability of ferries to visit other towns. Directions: We used GPS and it took us directly there, no problem. Overall: The property was beautiful and even better than we expected from the pictures. We absolutely loved it and hope to go back. Enjoyed Most: The location. Near the beach, near groceries, near bars and restaurants, near a fabulous city. Surrounding Area: I loved being walking distance to the beach. The water and sand were gorgeous. Rethymno was also an amazing city with a gorgeous harbour. Nearby Events or Locales: Rethymno and yes. Tips or Restaurants: All the restaurants we went to were great with really friendly service. Directions: We took a taxi to the hotel nearby, worked perfectly.

Overall: Our stay at the villa was a fantastic week for our group of 18 adults. Enjoyed Most: It was large enough for our group to dine and socialize together and at the same time to have a bit of quiet time out. The kitchen and dining area was well equipped to host a dinner party for 20 people. The pool area was fantastic and qw loved to spend the day here on our 'rest days'. Towels for the pool were also available which was great. We also loved the history behind the villa. It was once owned by a mayor of Lucca. Enjoyed Least: Some of the showers were very small and the villa was not close enough to walk to town. The washing machine took a very long time to do a full cycle. With 18 people in the villa we had a lot of washing. Surrounding Area: While we couldn't walk to town we did love that it was in the countryside and the view was spectacular. I loved that you could hear the bells ringing from a nearby church. The grounds of the villa were also very well maintained. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was Lucca and unfortunately unable to walk to town due to the narrow roads and no footpaths. The traffic was also quite heavy. However, there was a small shop a short walkable distance away for milk and bread. Tips or Restaurants: You definitely need some sort of transport to stay in this villa. We took taxis from the train station to a supermarket and then they came back and picked us up and then delivered us to the villa. This was only possible because we had a contact in Lucca and they arranged this with the taxis. We also hired buses for some day trips again arranged by our contact in Lucca. Other days we used taxis to go into town. Directions: As previously stated your own transport would be ideal. Luckily we had a taxi driver that could speak English and he was very helpful. He also gave us his card so then we were able to contact him when we needed a taxi into town. At 20 Euros it was quite expensive for a 4 km trip but this was usually shared between 2 couples. This also probably worked out cheaper than hiring several vehicles for the week. Check In Out: The check in process was a little challenging as neither the key holder nor caretakers speak English.

Overall: Our experience was fantastic. The owners could not have been nicer and more helpful. The property was well-maintained and the pictures on the website did not do the property justice. I would definitely stay there again. Enjoyed Most: The beautiful setting and how well-kept the property is. We loved the gorgeous view and the comfortable furnishings. Everything was fantastic. Enjoyed Least: It was tough to get up the hill to the property and back down again. After a few times it was easier. Surrounding Area: Cortona was a neat little hill town and it was easy to get to many of the other Tuscan hill towns. Nearby Events or Locales: Cortona. It would have been a tough walk bc of the hills. Tips or Restaurants: We ate at several of Rick Steves' recommended restaurants in Cortona and they were all very good. Directions: The property owners met us at the little market a mile or so away from the house and that helped. More signs would certainly be needed if you were doing it alone for the first time.

Overall: We had a wonderful time at the villa. The view of Lake Como was beautiful. The owner was very accommodating. She arranged a chef for 2 nights and helped us order food delivered from a deli. Enjoyed Most: The view of the lake. We especially liked the bathroom with every bedroom. Everyone had privacy when they needed it. We were 15 people and everyone had their own space. Enjoyed Least: The information given on the 10 minute walk to the city should be changed to 20 t0 30 minute walk. Surrounding Area: There isn't much in the surrounding area as it is a neighborhood and marina. We really liked going to the dock and taking the ferries to the various cities around the lake. Really a beautiful lake. We booked several day trips. St Moritz, Como, Lake Lugano. Nearby Events or Locales: 20 to30 minute walk to the grocery and bakery. Menaggio was the nearest town. A car would have been convenient for grocery and bakery shopping. We had taxi service. Tips or Restaurants: The villa is well equipped. Directions: We had limo service from Icare Limo. They were very good. I would recommend them. Check In Out: The owner picked us up at the Hotel Menaggio and drove us and our luggage to the villa. We were the first four to arrive. The others came by limo.S he checked us in and came to say goodbye when we departed.

Overall: Excellent. A lovely property in a tranquil setting. Enjoyed Most: Great shared space and pool area. Enjoyed Least: Poor kitchen facilities for a large group. Nearby Events or Locales: Marina di Ragusa. No, it is 12 km away. Tips or Restaurants: Keep in mind that it is isolated with no other facilities within walking distance.

Overall: Wonderful, peaceful, with a true Tuscan experience. The hosts/owners were very responsive to any requests and on top of everything. The absolute large size of the villa ensured many small nooks for all to have solitude, if needed. Excellent experience. Enjoyed Most: The size, location, views, interior courtyard and pool area. Enjoyed Least: The kitchen was basic but worked. Surrounding Area: The many small historic towns were great to explore. Nearby Events or Locales: Nothing was within walking distance. A car is mandatory, but not a problem. Directions: Dropped pinnear Castellina in Chianti, Siena. We used the coordinates for the owner's home, which is right beside the villa. Some in our group were unable to input the property coordinates provided on the voucher.

Overall: It was the most wonderful place. So very near Firenze and yet in the quiet and lovely countryside. The administrator was very helpful and charming. We enjoy every moment. Enjoyed Most: The peaceful atmosphere, the view, the kindness of the manager. The perfect location. Surrounding Area: The wonderful view since the property is at the top of a hill and you can see the surrounding countryside. One night we could see a couple of deer crossing the property. Nearby Events or Locales: Yes, the nearest small town is Grassina, which is walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: The property is so well located that you can dine in Florence and be at your villa in 7 minutes drive. We rented a car so it was very easy to come and go everywhere. Directions: We certainly used a GPS. I cannot think of anything more useful. We highly recommend it. Check In Out: Everything went very smoothly, much easier than expected. The people at the billas were just super warm and kind. We spent a GREAT vacation. Very recommendable.

Overall: This was an amazing villa dating back to the 1200s. It is beautifully maintained, offers a great central meeting space and living area, and large, private bedroom and bathrooms. The grounds and views are stunningly beautiful. We ended our days outside, watching the sunset and drinking wonderful Italian wines. Heaven! Enjoyed Most: Its history, the views, the fabulous gardens, and the comfort. It truly felt like a home away from home. Enjoyed Least: The parking access, but that's Cortona! And no WiFi. But everything else was perfect. Surrounding Area: We loved being able to walk down the hill into Cortona ... and since it was a very steep hill, we certainly got our exercise. There were a number of restaurants and wine shops available. The retail shops were also great. We loved watching the children play soccer in the piazza, all the people walking with their dogs, and the atmosphere in general. We walked through the town, sightseeing, visiting the churches and the Duomo, and also walked the "flat street," visiting the parks frequented by the natives. It also served as a good central location for trips to Orvieto, Florence, Siena, Banfi, and a number of other small towns we visited. Nearby Events or Locales: Our villa was located on the top of the hill in Cortona. Tips or Restaurants: We rented a WiFi enhancer so we could access email and the internet.GREAT FINDS Stop at Molesini's Enoteca Wineshop and do a wine tasting with Marco. Fabulous! They make it very easy to purchase and ship wine home.We had dinner our first night in Cortona at Locanda al Pozzo Antico Ristorante, which was outstanding. We sat in a courtyard area that was beautifully lit. The steak was wonderful, as was the veal.We had a lunch experience on Sunday at Trattoria Dardano. Paolo Castelli, the owner, makes everyone feel welcome. Many of the people at lunch spoke only Italian. They are regulars who come every Sunday after church. It was lively, we shared wine with the locals, and the food was extraordinary. But the highlight of our trip was when we had the Personal Chef of Cortona come to our villa to cook dinner for my husband's 60th birthday. We booked it through RentVillas. The appetizers included zucchini soup with parmesan crisps, caprese salad, and bruschetta. The gnocchi in duck sauce was wonderful. And their own version of tiramusu was delicious. The main course, veal, was also wonderfully seasoned. Directions: We were met by the owner and taken to the villa. So obviously there was nothing you could do to improve that experience! Check In Out: The process was very easy and everyone was warm and welcoming.

Overall: We had a thoroughly enjoyable stay at this villa. We made good use of the swimming pool, the outdoor bbq, and the kitchen. Enjoyed Most: This villa is a charming mix of comfort and character, with a beautiful view, lovely swimming pool and close proximity to a quaint and welcoming village. The owners were very warm and helpful. The villa had a number of stunning hand painted icons on the walls. Enjoyed Least: Not much, really. Maybe the fact that the hot water was somewhat limited for the seven of us. Surrounding Area: Warm, lovely people in the nearby village who served us with welcoming smiles and delicious food at The Gorge restaurant! Nearby Events or Locales: We were within 5 mins walk of Deliana. Tips or Restaurants: Pool toys if you are traveling with children. "The Gorge" in Deliana. Directions: Directions were fine for us. We used a GPS but were traveling with a young couple who have a keen sense of direction. Check In Out: Most accommodating to our "outside of the specified hours" needs.

Overall: We had a wonderful experience at Villa Montopoli. We were late in arriving due to heavy traffic en route from France and the owners were incredibly flexible and even offered to buy us groceries and leave them in the refrigerator. The property was amazing, very large, and looks better in real life than illustrated on the website. The pool is first class. Enjoyed Most: The pool and the physical layout with a lot of space to sprawl out. Enjoyed Least: Very minor thing to mention, but the long driveway and the gate. However, this is incredibly minor. Prior visitors commented about the cats, but we saw only one and he never bothered us at all. Surrounding Area: The proximity to Pisa, Firenze, Siena and San Gimignano (take the train from San Romano 5 minutes away....much easier than driving and parking). The town of Montopoli was very charming and quiet. Nearby Events or Locales: You could walk to Montopoli theoretically. However, it would probably take 30-40 minutes and is mostly up hill. Tips or Restaurants: The house is incredibly well stocked so you don't need to bring anything extra. Definitely hire a chef through RentVillas. Cinzia was wonderful and the food was truly excellent. Directions: The property would be hard to find with only a GPS. The extra written directions (take a right at the cross and a left at the church!) were vitally important. Check In Out: Check in and check out was about as informal a process as is possible. They greeted us, grabbed copies of our passports and didn't even ask for the security deposit.

Overall: Could not be better. Enjoyed Most: The proximity to the village. It was only a ten minute walk to the central square. Enjoyed Least: The approach to the property was a very steep climb. Surrounding Area: There were several wineries and villages within easy distance. Nearby Events or Locales: Greve; yes. Directions: We used a GPS and we could not have gotten along without it. Check In Out: The owner of the property was very accommodating.

Overall: We loved La Musiquette! We couldn't have chosen a better property for our 2 week stay in Paris! Enjoyed Most: The property was beautiful. It was decorated nicely and was extremely comfortable. Surrounding Area: The location was perfect! Close to shops, outdoor cafes and the subway. Tips or Restaurants: Every restaurant we chose was wonderful! When looking for a place to dine, I'd suggest exploring the area as many good choices are very close to the property.

Overall: The experience was amazing. The villa, its history and the views of Capri, Vesuvius and even Naples in the distance were spectacular. The grounds were beautifully landscaped and there were many areas to sit and enjoy the views and relax. We celebrated my 50th birthday with family and friends. The staff at the villa were attentive and so helpful with anything we needed from dinner reservations to special breakfast requests. Enjoyed Most: The views and the location and the beautiful grounds. And I cannot forget about the staff. Wonderful Surrounding Area: Quiet, small village, away from the crowds and cars. Nearby Events or Locales: Nearest town, Massa Lubrense. Could walk, but I wouldn't Tips or Restaurants: If you want a Michelin Star experience, go to Don Alfonso in Sant' Agata. Who knew a 2 Michelin Star restaurant in a small village. And get a tour of the wine cellar that consists of 3 rooms, one from the 17th century, one from the 15th century and a 6th Century tunnel they found 30 years ago that leads to a well where they age their own cheese. Spectacular! Directions: We had car service. Check In Out: Everything was flawless. They even accommodated our early arrival

Overall: We, a group of 7 adults and two children, ages 4 and 2 1/2, had a fantastic time! Villa Giardino has all the Tuscan farmhouse charm with good plumbing and A/C in two bedrooms, lots of spaces for gathering the group for drinks, meals, games etc. and indoor and outdoor spaces for finding a quite corner to read or nap. Enjoyed Most: Hard to answer--loved the view, the charm, the pool, the huge kitchen and open arched window with grapes growing around it and an amazing view, the amazing hiking trails in the Holy Woods, the proximity to Siena and other towns. Delightful to have Chef Ronald 6 nights and housekeeping each morning. Surrounding Area: Some or all of our party biked most days. We enjoyed day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, and Montalcino. We hiked almost everyday in the Holy Woods--animal carvings, statues, chapels, lily pond and the monastery at the top were all amazing and great fun for the little ones as well as adults. Nearby Events or Locales: No. Sovicille is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute or less bike ride. Sovicille has a small friendly market and pharmacy. We stopped on the way to the Villa at Penny Market off the autostrada. Chef Ronald bought what ever else we needed after that. We did not walk to Anciano but it would have been possible--no shops there, though. Directions: We used GPS on the phone. I had Google Earth maps, which helped. Check In Out: Isabella was fantastic. Check in and out was a breeze. We had electricity go out one night and it was fixed immediately. The Housekeeper showed me how to use the laundry machines. We had clean towels in baths and at the pool everyday. Isabella was kind to arrange for us to see the estate gardens after we checked out. Amazing! The grandchildren played hide and seek with their uncle and a had a blast.

Overall: We had an absolutely wonderful time. The pool was perfect and the guys loved the creek with the water falls. Enjoyed Most: It was walking distance to an old town and a long walk to another town. The villa was lovely, the hosts were very helpful and kind. The pool was fantastic. The lavender and butterfly bushes were in full bloom. Enjoyed Least: That we had to leave after 2 weeks!! Surrounding Area: Close to many old walled towns. Ah,the patisserie was 4 min. away by car. Close to Nice, a wonderful sandy beach, and Grasse. A day trip from the Grande Canyon of Verdon. Nearby Events or Locales: Tourrettes was maybe 10 min. walking. Fayence was maybe another 10 min away from Tourrettes. Tips or Restaurants: Fayence has some good restaurants. Directions: A map with details on it would have been great to have! 23 of our party wandered around for awhile. Check In Out: The hosts were great!

Overall: It was everything we hoped for and more. Everything was top notch, from the location to the amenities. Since we rented both apartments, it was very private. Enjoyed Most: The villa itself. We felt like we were living in an impressionist painting. The favorite part of my vacation was having a cup of coffee on the veranda looking at the Tuscan countryside dotted with hay bales. An incredibly peaceful experience. Enjoyed Least: The air conditioning, which worked, but not up to US standards. Surrounding Area: Exploring the little walled medieval towns which were all less than an hour's drive from the Villa (Pienza, Montichellio, Montepulciano, and Siena!) Nearby Events or Locales: Montichiello - the Villa is a mile off the main road so nothing was within walking distance Tips or Restaurants: The property was well-equipped (linens, towels, blow dryers) but had no WiFi. Future renters should bring their own portable hot spots such as Mifi. In Monticchiello , La Porta was incredible. In the outskirts of Pienza, the Agriturismo La Fonte was by far the best meal we had in Tuscany. Directions: GPS is a necessity! Check In Out: The manager was excellent. We called ahead she waited for us at the turn off from the main road (without following her we would never have found the Villa- even with GPS). She welcomed us with local wines, bottled water, and delicious fresh focaccia. Check out was easy and timely.

Overall: This was an incredible vacation spot. We were offered free vegetables from the gardens and free range eggs. The pool was awesome with the feel of an extra large hot tub. The pool had water jets in places which really helped in relaxing after a busy day. I would highly recommend this as a vacation destination. Enjoyed Most: The pool, the size of the apartment and the graciousness of the staff. Enjoyed Least: The beds for our grown children were small. My son is 6'4" tall and could not sleep on this bed. Surrounding Area: Lots of small villages to explore and beautiful drives through the hills. Nearby Events or Locales: No. The nearest village was about 10 km. Tips or Restaurants: Bring your bathing suit and rent a small car. The roads are quite narrow. Directions: We used a GPS that was in our car rental. However in the countryside the GPS had us traveling down a cow path. We had to figure out an alternate route!

Overall: Very positive. Everything was just as described. Great location, large bedrooms, functioning washing machine. Very clean and friendly. The living room was loaded with travel books, restaurant recommendations, sample itineraries etc. Enjoyed Most: The location. I can't think of an area I would rather have been in in Rome. Enjoyed Least: It was a bit noisy. I'm not complaining however. We knew it would be being that close to the Campo di Fiori. Surrounding Area: We concentrated on Rome from this property, we didn't visit any surrounding areas. The location was ideal. We walked, literally, to everything we wanted to see. Nearby Events or Locales: Vatican City was the nearest small town and yes, it was within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: The farmers market on the Campo every morning except Sunday is phenomenal. Make a point of shopping there and eating in a night or two. Per Luigi is a nearby restaurant that we enjoyed. Expensive but worth the splurge. Get a reservation after 9 so you don't look like a tourist. Directions: Take a cab when coming in. Yes we did use GPS to find our way. Check In Out: Everything worked very smoothly. Roberto was right on time and gave us a very nice tour of the property. His English is excellent.
