Enjoyed Most: We were pleasantly surprised when we arrived and found a welcome basket with fruit, cookies, cereal, and bread, and eggs, cheese, and milk in the refrigerator. This was a very thoughtful gesture that we greatly appreciated. We enjoyed coming home to our cottage after a day of sightseeing and being able to cook dinner and watch a movie, read a book, or play a game together. The cottage had a wonderful selection of entertainment! The beds were very comfortable and the kitchen was fully equipped. Enjoyed Least: We didn't realize that the "bathroom" did not have a stand up shower - just a bathtub with a handheld shower. Also, the telephone was coin-operated and only worked for calls within England; no international calls. Surrounding Area: We absolutely loved driving to our property and seeing the fields of yellow flowers and the adorable sheep and baby lambs grazing in the green grass. The area was very peaceful and quiet and we enjoyed waking up to the sounds of birds singing. Our favorite nearby town was Bourton-on-the-Water, absolutely delightful! Nearby Events or Locales: The cottage is located in the town of Windrush, which consists of only a church and houses. Burford was the nearest larger town with shops, but it was not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: A mobile phone would be helpful. Directions: We did not have any trouble finding the property. Check In Out: We were supposed to call our keyholder prior to our arrival but we did not have a mobile phone. However the next door neighbor was home and generously called the keyholder when we arrived. She told us where to find the key and everything was fine. The keyholder did not meet us at the time of check-out either, so we left the key where we found it. Everything was fine though.

Overall: We had a lot of rain and cool weather. The owner was very helpful. Enjoyed Most: Historical and roomy. Enjoyed Least: No parking as a result of the renovation of the Piazza. Surrounding Area: Close to the Piazza and town. Directions: Be sure to call the owner 30 minutes before arrival.

Overall: A lovely villa. Overall a good experience. Enjoyed Most: Location, view, pool. Enjoyed Least: Noisy fridge, gates didn't work (they had to order a part), so we had to manually open and close them. Poor WiFi. Surrounding Area: Some great food, views and small towns. Tips or Restaurants: Bring or buy bug spray (no screens).

Overall: We had a very pleasant week at villa Veronique. Enjoyed Most: Great location within a short driving distance to many local attractions. We only saw a tip of the iceberg. Villa is very private, nicely decorated in distinctive Provence style. Enjoyed Least: There was a wasp nest outside the garage. Nearby Events or Locales: The centre of the nearest small town is within 3-5 min drive. Tips or Restaurants: Many good restarunts in St. Remy, 10-15 min drive depending on the road you choose. Directions: Our GPS refused to cooperate, we called the owner and she graciously came to fetch us. We were 3 min away. With properly working GPS, finding the villa won't be problem.

Overall: We had a fabulous time. Enjoyed Most: The pool and the grounds were perfect. There was a space for everyone - to relax, to play, to cook, to read, etc. Surrounding Area: The town festivals, local dining, visiting other towns. Nearby Events or Locales: Subbiano - not really, but 5 minutes by car. Falciano was 2 minutes from the house but not really a town. Directions: We used GPS.

Overall: Very good, nice, comfortable, with very good accommodations. staff were very helpful and courteous. Loved the place! Enjoyed Most: Loved the location, easy access to our points of interest. Very helpful staff, clean, well furnished, heat and central air, great to meet the count and countess, very welcoming. Nice location near restaurants and grocery. Quiet and not right on a busy street or directly in town. Surrounding Area: Loved the lake district, shopping, views, food, recommendations from the staff for places to visit and see. Had activities for children very similar to USA theme parks, but we were not interested in such. Nearby Events or Locales: Peschiera, could probably have walked but we didn't because of crossing very busy roads. But easy to drive and would recommend that. Tips or Restaurants: Arrive in the day time, it was a bit confusing to arrive after dark, but the one of phone numbers given helped clear up the correct driveway and villa. If you play golf, bring or rent clubs as the golf course was nice. Sorry we arrived in late Oct. the pool looked great. Room for children to run and play very safely. Villa well equipped, washer, no dryer but laundry service available at extra cost. We found it quite adequate for our needs. Directions: Yes, we did use a GPS. We just turned into the road that led to the reception area. Check In Out: Maria and Marta made things very easy. We like the size of the villa as it gave each of us a private bedroom with a bath. One hiccup with water heater but it was resolved within 30 minutes.

Overall: The property was better than we expected - larger, more room and wonderfully private. Enjoyed Most: The outdoor space - eating "al fresco" every day - enjoying the fresh figs from the beautiful and grand fig tree in the middle of the backyard. Enjoyed Least: August is hot and the rooms were very hot throughout the nights. The guests on the second floor found it almost unbearable. Surrounding Area: Although Agello is not a tourist town, the villa is well located to some of the most remarkable towns, cities, food and wine in Italy! Siena was an hour away. Orvieto 70 minutes. Gubbio 80 minutes. Nearby Events or Locales: The villa is situated just outside of Agello which is an easy 10 minute walk to get cappuccino at the Circolo bar or groceries at the Alimentari Margherita. Tips or Restaurants: The kitchen was relatively well suited to cooking. We had a great experience getting our meal with the many Italians who vacation in the Lago Trasimeno area at the Hotel Faliero - Torta Al Testo, gnocchi, tagliatelle etc. Check In Out: The property manager Roberto, was wonderful. Although he spoke no English he was warm, accommodating and took very special care of us.

Overall: Fabulous. Enjoyed Most: The view. Enjoyed Least: The house could have been cleaner. Surrounding Area: Easy access to the most remote areas on the lake. Nearby Events or Locales: Torri del Benaco Directions: Don't hesitate to contact the manager after you reach Garda as they'll guide you to the location.

Overall: The villa was both majestic and comfortable. Enjoyed Most: The villa was beautiful, with many spaces that allowed for conviviality and connection without feeling crowded or secluded. The pool was refreshing salt water and the grounds were well laid out. There is a large outdoor dining table with tent and netting. The view from the tower was quite special. Enjoyed Least: The internet took a few days to function. We found the tile floors in the pool house to be slippery. Surrounding Area: The lake is within walking distance, where there is a park and little beach. There was a Lido with outdoor auditorium and they had a concert one night. The town is not touristic. There's a good, local pizzeria, market, wine store and Moto Guzzi museum within walking distance. The train station is only 1.5 blocks away. Nearby Events or Locales: The Villa is located in Mandello del Lario. Tips or Restaurants: We ate at an excellent restaurant on the waterfront in Varenna, the cutest nearby town (20 min by car). httpwww.varenna.netITARistorante-LaVista.phpThen went for a walk along the gorgeous waterfront. Check In Out: The gracious owner had to come back several times to fix the Internet and the chef was given my number but not told the country code so could not call when he arrived an hour late (though still I highly recommend Diego, our chef booked through RentVillas - the food was delicious and prepared in advance so we could eat one time). Check-in involved sending my friends to call several phone numbers to track down someone to meet at a square in order to get the keys rather than just meeting at the villa. Check out was also a little confusing as I had to depart before the 10 AM check out time and had to leave it to my guests to coordinate payment for the extras.

Overall: We enjoyed the property, which we shared with another couple. The set-up of the bedrooms and baths was excellent for privacy. Enjoyed Most: The outdoor deck with pool looking out over the valley was lovely. The evening sunsets and moonrise were spectacular. Enjoyed Least: The walk into town is a rather strenuous trek up and down the slope. The narrow road leading into the property requires a confident and competent driver. Fortunately, my partner and I have driven extensively in Italy and other countries. The kitchen is extremely well equipped but the knives would not cut soft butter! Surrounding Area: We used La Tempesta as a base to explore the Veneto and Dolomites. We enjoyed being able to visit many lovely towns and indulge my special passion--villas designed by Palladio.Follow the Prosecco Road and, if you are daring, drive the hairpin road through the Dolomites. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was Asolo. It was not really within walking distance, as I described above. There is limited parking in the village and we would have preferred to be able to walk from La Tempesta. We learned to stop at any market we found open as we traveled. There is a small green grocer and a deli that are very good in the village but with limited items and hours. Tips or Restaurants: Make sure you bring any personal needs. Toilet tissue is not supplied. We often had a nice lunch in towns we were visiting and then planned on making a light supper at the villa. Bistrot in Asolo was a good find.Renters should know ahead of time that the village is closed to traffic on Sundays as are the food stores so if you arrive, as we did, late afternoon on Saturday do not plan on getting supplies until Monday. There was a meal prepared for us for Saturday night which was very welcome. Directions: A GPS is absolutely necessary in this area.

Overall: Villa is in a beautiful area with spectacular views. Enjoyed Most: The outdoor areas were large and beautiful, with many choices for outdoor dining. Enjoyed Least: The living room couches were dated and uncomfortable. There were also two different dogs in the area that barked often. Surrounding Area: Very nice towns and people. The local grocery store was convenient and the owners were very nice to us. Nearby Events or Locales: Mazzano, within walking distance, with the cable car to Taormina. Tips or Restaurants: None in particular. We didn't have a bad meal. Every restaurant we tried was good. Directions: Directions to the villa were perfect. Check In Out: Check in and check out went very smoothly. Simonetta was very helpful.

Overall: Amazing. You can stay at a hotel in Sorrento, but you're only visiting. With the villa, we got to actually live there and experience it. Excellent time! Enjoyed Most: While other Sorrento villas are cheaper, this one is by far the best choice for someone who doesn't want to take a cab everywhere. I was thrilled that it was a 10 min walk to everywhere: the main square, the shops, a supermarket, and just a 2 min walk to a great restaurant. Enjoyed Least: While there are so many pluses, there are a few areas of the villa that need improvement. The first is that you really don't have a view of any kind, because you're enclosed by 4 walls when on the property. Also, on weekends, you're right next to a soccer stadium which can get fairly loud, but during the week it was quiet. The washing machine and dryer were also a little tough to get working. And the biggest area of improvement would have to be the dampness of the villa. While not unbearable, a small dehumidifier would do wonders. Surrounding Area: So close to everything. It put you right in a wonderful European setting. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest small town was Sant'Angello. While not an easy walk, it was definitely walkable. About 20 mins. Tips or Restaurants: Bring your appetite! We went out to dinner every night and did not eat a bad meal. Our favorite restaurants were in the town square. Caruso's and La Laterna. But if you just want a quick bite to eat for a reasonable price, there's a great pizzeria/restaurant 2 mins from the villa. Directions: Directions were great, we just walked from the train station. It was great. Check In Out: Everything was very smooth. Mena explained everything to us and was very helpful whenever we needed a favor, like using her printer.

Overall: Overall, we were happy with the villa. Service was quick and cordial and anything that needed repairing was dealt with same day with no extra effort on our part. We loved the privacy on the decks and the jacuzzi even though other villas were in immediate proximity. Amazingly quiet in spite of villas around us. Very good daily maid service. Enjoyed Most: Seclusion and incredible view of caldera, Mirostefani and Fira. Enjoyed Least: Walls inside and outside could have used a coat of fresh paint. We experienced electrical shorts in the kitchen. Surrounding Area: Views, proximity of restaurants, shopping and cafés. Nearby Events or Locales: Mirostefani and Fira both within 15 minutes walk. Tips or Restaurants: Do not trust Trip Advisor for restaurants. Salt and Pepper was highly rated by 5 different people. The location and food were really terrible. Some of those testimonials had to be bogus. The villa has WIFI. Even though a car is provided, you are better off getting around on an ATV. Stay away from motorcycles unless you are an experienced rider... you need nerves of steel to negotiate the roads and other drivers. Directions: We were picked up at the airport. Check In Out: People were helpful carrying bags up and down steep walkways and were right on time.

Overall: It was great. Enjoyed Most: The area around it was great, with the best view. Enjoyed Least: Lots of hills, but that's the area. Surrounding Area: The little city nearby, S. Agata is the best. I loved it. Nearby Events or Locales: S. Agata--I walked there one time and it took me 45 mins. I took the bus into town, as well. Tips or Restaurants: Your list was very good and I have nothing to add. Restaurants are the best in most of Italy. Don Alfonso is a little more money for lunch or dinner than most people want to spend, but well worth it. Also, Da Mimi in S. Agata is very good and very reasonable. Directions: The key holder is great and the directions were good. Check In Out: It all went great.

Overall: We had a terrific visit to Villa Sella. It was relaxing and quiet, had all the amenities we expected and required, and was very picturesque. Enjoyed Most: The views from the loggia were unbelievable. Enjoyed Least: Personally for me, the bed in the master bedroom was a little uncomfortable. However, this is a matter of preference as I prefer a soft bed and this was very hard. Surrounding Area: Villa Sella is about equidistant from Siena, Firenze and Pisa, and there are several small towns like San Gimingnano, Certaldo and Volterra which are very picturesque and fun to visit. There's also a great pizzeria restaurant very close by. Nearby Events or Locales: Villa Sella is in Sciano, which has one great restaurant but nothing else, and it is within walking distance (watch out for cars, you have to walk on very windy roads). Certaldo is the nearest town with any real stores, and it is 10 minutes by car. Tips or Restaurants: It's a long way driving to even the nearby towns. The owner knows a local driver with a 7 pax van who can be hired for the days to take you to various towns (even Florence) and it's sooo worth it to be driven around (like you can enjoy the wine!). Plan to spend a day just sitting and enjoying the pool and the loggia. Bring a good map! Directions: So, both of us driving there got lost. A lot. The problem is not so much the directions as the almost complete lack of road signs that match up to whatever the GPS tells you. The owner was very helpful and gracious in retrieving us when called. My best advice would be to a) make sure you have a working cell phone before trying to find this place yourself. b) call the owner once you get off the A1 near Florence. c) have at least one GPS. We had a rental car provided GPS and an iPhone GPS, they were at odds on every trip. And we still got lost driving around. Check In Out: Elizabeth was wonderful and very flexible with both check in and check out. We were surprised by the 150 Euro cleaning fee, though upon checking back it was in the fine print.

Overall: Overall, it was a pleasant stay. The building has layers of history within it. It is quite spacious and it easily accommodated the eight of us. It was neat and clean. The owner was pleasant, very charming, and attentive. He pretty much trusted us to enjoy the villa without interfering. Enjoyed Most: A beautiful building. The in-ground pool was wonderful. The vineyard was picturesque. Enjoyed Least: Kitchen appliances such as the coffee maker and toaster need updating. Also, I believe that our stay would have been more productive if we had received more appropriate information from the owner about the villa and the surrounding area when we first arrived. By the time we were able to explore, the week was over. Surrounding Area: I loved the Subbiano street festival. Alessandro made us feel right at home. The location, rather rural, was a bit of a ride for side trips (Siena, Florence, Assisi, Cortona, Radda) but doable. Nearby Events or Locales: Walking to Subbiano or Capalona was not convenient. We took the car. Tips or Restaurants: The two restaurants closest to the villa -- Taverna dei Briganti and Torre Santa Flora -- were wonderful. Torre Santa Flora was probably one of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The proprietors of both restaurants could not have been any more pleasant and helpful. Directions: Most road signs from the Autostrada and from Arezzo did not list Subbiano. We had to follow signs (we found by stopping to ask) that led to Bibbiena. Renters should know that a "white road" is an unpaved road. The villa is up the hill using the "white road." We had problems with our GPS. Check In Out: I would have appreciated a more thorough check-in process. The owner, due to other commitments, was available upon our arrival for only a very short time. He stopped by during the week and was very accommodating. Still, I think we would have liked to have the information we requested earlier in our stay.

Overall: It was a wonderful experience. We had rental cars and took a day trip each day all about 1 hour villa-to-location. Did not get lost due to GPS systems in the cars and were able to enjoy the magnificent countryside. Enjoyed Most: I thought the outside area was beautifully maintained, comfortable and relaxing. The pool area was a treat after returning late afternoons from various surrounding towns. The grounds in general were lovely with beautiful views. The website photos did not do justice to the exterior of the house, it was much more attractive. Enjoyed Least: I was pleased with the property on the whole, everything in working order and comfortable. However, would have preferred a more casual and larger living room area on the ground floor which is where the TV was located and 10 of us gathered in the evening. I would, however, recommend the property. Surrounding Area: We visited San Gimignano, Volterra, Siena, Pisa, Lucca, a winery and Florence and particularly loved the interesting walled towns. I felt the villa location was convenient so that our day trips were no more than an hour away. Nearby Events or Locales: Montespertoli was the nearest town - it was not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: A few restaurants were recommended by the keyholder and were fine. Our lunches were generally in the visited towns and the food was good everywhere. The Coop supermarket was a few miles away and various staples could be picked up there. II would suggest that it be taken care of the day of arrival as stores are closed on Sundays. The house was supplied with toilet paper, soap, kitchen soaps, spices plenty of towels which were replaced during the week. Directions: We had two 5 passenger cars equipped with GPS and had no problem getting to the property Pisa airport to villa or to other destinations. HIGHLY recommend using GPS - never got lost. Check In Out: It was very easy. The keyholders warmly greeted us and walked us through the rooms with explanations, etc. They were very friendly and accommodating going out of their way to help .

Overall: Overall, we had a great time. Good location, good facilities, although a few maintenance issues. Great for the 9 people we had there at the peak, including 2 young kids. Enjoyed Most: The location, close to many interesting sights. The fact that all bedrooms had en-suite bathrooms. Good shopping including supermarkets, etc a few minutes away. Good WiFi, lots of hot water. Great views from the large terrace to the hillside village. Enjoyed Least: The road in and out is very narrow, one lane, a problem if you meet someone coming the other way. The en-suite bathrooms, except for the main bedroom, were all small, and separated from each bedroom by a flimsy curtain. There were mildew stains in some bathrooms. In the kitchen, there was chipped crockery and the fridge door needs repairing, as does the oven door. Editor's Note: The owner addressed maintenance issues in winter 2014 in preparation for the 2015 season. March 2015 Surrounding Area: Lots to see within an hour or so driving. Avignon, Arles, Nimes, Aix-en-Provence, Pont-du-Gard, Orange, St-Remy-de-Provence, the Luberon, etc. Great markets at L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue (Sunday), and Carpentras (Friday). Nearby Events or Locales: Saumane-de-Vaucluse is a few minutes walk away, although it is small, very quiet, no shops, the one restaurant closes from September to March. L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is a few minutes drive away, a busy town with all facilities, including a fabulous market on Sundays (get there early to be able to park) Tips or Restaurants: Only arrive in a small car, as the road in and out is exceedingly narrow. Plenty of restaurants in L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, plus a couple of good ones in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, just around the corner. Directions: We came from Avignon using our GPS which bypassed L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, so we missed vital landmarks noted in the directions, and hence got totally lost. There is no sign indicating the property when you arrive, except for a small no. 64 in the driveway. Check In Out: We didn't like having to send one security deposit to the UK and pay another deposit on arrival.
