Overall: We, a group of 7 adults and two children, ages 4 and 2 1/2, had a fantastic time! Villa Giardino has all the Tuscan farmhouse charm with good plumbing and A/C in two bedrooms, lots of spaces for gathering the group for drinks, meals, games etc. and indoor and outdoor spaces for finding a quite corner to read or nap. Enjoyed Most: Hard to answer--loved the view, the charm, the pool, the huge kitchen and open arched window with grapes growing around it and an amazing view, the amazing hiking trails in the Holy Woods, the proximity to Siena and other towns. Delightful to have Chef Ronald 6 nights and housekeeping each morning. Surrounding Area: Some or all of our party biked most days. We enjoyed day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, and Montalcino. We hiked almost everyday in the Holy Woods--animal carvings, statues, chapels, lily pond and the monastery at the top were all amazing and great fun for the little ones as well as adults. Nearby Events or Locales: No. Sovicille is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute or less bike ride. Sovicille has a small friendly market and pharmacy. We stopped on the way to the Villa at Penny Market off the autostrada. Chef Ronald bought what ever else we needed after that. We did not walk to Anciano but it would have been possible--no shops there, though. Directions: We used GPS on the phone. I had Google Earth maps, which helped. Check In Out: Isabella was fantastic. Check in and out was a breeze. We had electricity go out one night and it was fixed immediately. The Housekeeper showed me how to use the laundry machines. We had clean towels in baths and at the pool everyday. Isabella was kind to arrange for us to see the estate gardens after we checked out. Amazing! The grandchildren played hide and seek with their uncle and a had a blast.

Overall: We had a wonderful time in Santorini and at the Villa Giada. The villa is very nice and it was very comfortable. Interesting concept--two cave houses. Santorini white wines are incredible!!! Enjoyed Most: The privacy, the views, the location, the size, and having four bathrooms for the four of us. The chef we hired for two nights to prepare dinners for us at the villa. Enjoyed Least: The fact that we were told on arrival that we could not put toilet tissue in the toilets. Had we been told about this prior to booking, we might not have booked this villa, especially at the price. Editor's Note: Septic and sewage treatment systems are antiquated throughout the Greek islands and pipes are clog-prone and narrow. As a result, it is common practice to dispose of toilet paper in the provided receptacle. Surrounding Area: Our location in relation to Imervogili and Thera. The several restaurants within walking distance the shops. The views of the general area were fantastic. We rented a car for the week and used it daily to explore the island and have lunch at the many great restaurants around the island. Nearby Events or Locales: Imervogili. The villa was on a cliff in the town. Thera was also within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Rent a car and pick any restaurant, especially one with seafood fresh daily. Do wine tastings at several wineries. The sunsets are amazing. Directions: Rent a car thru the onsite property manager and they will pick you up at the airport and take you back. They have an arrangement with a car rental agency that is literally two minutes from the house. We parked our car at the car rental agency when not using it. Check In Out: The process was fine. No problems.

Surrounding Area: Lake Garda; availability of ferries to visit other towns. Directions: We used GPS and it took us directly there, no problem. Check In Out: Very capable key holderWith well organized area information.Excellent orientation to home and house controls and amenities.

Overall: We loved this house. We thought it was the best vacation home we had ever rented. It had plenty of both indoor and outdoor space, so we could spread out and relax. The kitchen was very well appointed and had everything we needed. There were many outdoor eating areas, and we enjoyed the variety. We felt secure being behind double gates and had completely private, too. We were there with our adult children, and it was nice having a private suite off the main house where we could enjoy some privacy. Enjoyed Most: The cabana area beside the pool. Enjoyed Least: The orientation of the house such that the outdoor areas are ablaze with sun in the afternoon. We only used these areas in the mornings and evenings because of this. Also, we found the beds a bit firm. Surrounding Area: Very good grocery store in Chateaurenard, with everything we needed. Also a nice bakery. Nearby Events or Locales: Chateaurenard--no, it is too far to walk. Tips or Restaurants: This house has everything you need, even pool towels. We didn't go to restaurants nearby; only when we were out on day trips. Directions: We got to the property by GPS, but we couldn't identify it as there were no numbers on the gate. Someone out on the street told us that was the place. Check In Out: Our voucher indicated that we should call Yvonne prior to arrival, but we couldn't get through to her. Not sure if our phones weren't working or if she didn't answer. Sylvie, the sister of the owner, happened to come by and let us in. Editor's Note: The property manager confirms that the information on the voucher is correct. Please call Yvonne at the number indicated prior to arrival. October, 2015.

Overall: Our stay at the villa was a fantastic week for our group of 18 adults. Enjoyed Most: It was large enough for our group to dine and socialize together and at the same time to have a bit of quiet time out. The kitchen and dining area was well equipped to host a dinner party for 20 people. The pool area was fantastic and qw loved to spend the day here on our 'rest days'. Towels for the pool were also available which was great. We also loved the history behind the villa. It was once owned by a mayor of Lucca. Enjoyed Least: Some of the showers were very small and the villa was not close enough to walk to town. The washing machine took a very long time to do a full cycle. With 18 people in the villa we had a lot of washing. Surrounding Area: While we couldn't walk to town we did love that it was in the countryside and the view was spectacular. I loved that you could hear the bells ringing from a nearby church. The grounds of the villa were also very well maintained. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was Lucca and unfortunately unable to walk to town due to the narrow roads and no footpaths. The traffic was also quite heavy. However, there was a small shop a short walkable distance away for milk and bread. Tips or Restaurants: You definitely need some sort of transport to stay in this villa. We took taxis from the train station to a supermarket and then they came back and picked us up and then delivered us to the villa. This was only possible because we had a contact in Lucca and they arranged this with the taxis. We also hired buses for some day trips again arranged by our contact in Lucca. Other days we used taxis to go into town. Directions: As previously stated your own transport would be ideal. Luckily we had a taxi driver that could speak English and he was very helpful. He also gave us his card so then we were able to contact him when we needed a taxi into town. At 20 Euros it was quite expensive for a 4 km trip but this was usually shared between 2 couples. This also probably worked out cheaper than hiring several vehicles for the week. Check In Out: The check in process was a little challenging as neither the key holder nor caretakers speak English.

Overall: We LOVED Villa Fontana! The villa was perfect for our group of 4 adults and 4 teenage girls. The weather was beautiful and we spent almost all of our time at the outside tables or by the pool. The location of the villa was ideal for day excursions to Cortona, Assisi, Pienza and Montepulciano. We were also very close to Siena but ran out of time! We loved having the opportunity to relax at the villa between excursions. Stefania, the property manager, was extremely helpful with getting us situated and telling us about local markets, restaurants, shopping, parking, etc. Because of her, we discovered some nice little local gems including the adorable lakeside town of Passignano. Stefania also runs a local vineyard, so she invited us for a tour and a wine and olive oil tasting--it was so much fun. The area felt very safe and we felt comfortable leaving our teenage girls while we adults went out for dinner. Enjoyed Most: The location of the villa and view were amazing! The villa itself was clean and well-maintained but still had that rustic feeling. The pool was beautiful--very large with an infinity edge all around. The pool had plenty of very comfortable lounge chairs with shades. Everyone enjoyed reading poolside and swimming, especially after a long day of touring. The adults enjoyed playing cards and drinking wine under the shaded patio. Enjoyed Least: The washing machine was very small and there was no dryer. Also, the shower stalls were very small and it was a challenge to take a shower without soaking the entire bathroom. Surrounding Area: We loved being centrally located near some key sightseeing areas but also being remote enough that we felt like "locals". Through Stefania, the property manager, we were able to find great markets, shops and pizza and sandwich shops that were geared towards locals. Stefania even wrote out what we should order at one place! Nearby Events or Locales: There was no town that was within walking distance. The nearest grocery stores, pizza, sandwich shop were less than 10 minutes by car in Tuoro or Camucia. We could be in Cortona or Passignano for a nice meal in around 15 minutes. Tips or Restaurants: Stefania was the best resource for local information! She spent quite a bit of time with us when we arrived drawing maps and answering questions. She even made dinner reservations for us one evening. We also booked a meal to be prepared in the villa and a wine tour through www.theenthusiastictraveler.com. I worked with Doumina who runs the company and she was very helpful and responsive. The meal was AMAZING. The chef and also our tour guide (Stefi) was so much fun and the food was the best we have ever had. I would suggest future guests bring beach towels for the pool. Directions: The directions were not helpful; the owner said she would have to send new ones to RentVillas for future renters. This was probably the most frustrating aspect. I will say that the local RentVillas rep and the property manager were easily reached by cell phone and worked together to finally get us to our destination Check In Out: Very smooth.

Overall: We truly enjoyed our stay at Villa Flora! The owner was gracious and quickly fixed the few minor plumbing problems we noticed when we checked in. The view was fabulous, the outdoor area was splendid, and we enjoyed our ocean access too! All the rooms were comfortable and the décor was amazing! Enjoyed Most: I enjoyed the views, the gardens (lemons, limes, figs, table grapes), and the Mediterranean décor, tile floors, lots of shells in glass cases, and white and blue walls. The pool and the ocean access were wonderful too! Enjoyed Least: The neighbors were noisy on several nights, once until 11:20 PM. There's not much that can be done about that though. Surrounding Area: We enjoyed the neighborhood grocery store, the sea walk to several restaurants, and the proximity to Sorrento and the Amalfi Coast! Nearby Events or Locales: Masse Lubrense is the nearest small town. We were able to walk to the harbor area of Masse Lubrense where there were several seaside restaurants. Tips or Restaurants: We had one meal catered by the cooks while we were staying at the Villa Flora. It was excellent, one of the best meals we had the whole 3 weeks we were in Italy!!! It was also an economical option, quite a bit less than we were spending at restaurants. I would recommend that future renters consider having these two ladies cook at least two or 3 meals. It's not every day you can eat in your swimsuit under a beautifully draped portico table with friends or family! The restaurant '... Michele' was also very good with great views of the marina and the ocean. Directions: The directions were good. I would add that the last turnoff is near a large pine tree - and that the road down to the villa is very narrow. Tell drivers to proceed with caution between the parked cars and the rock walls - and to keep a lookout for the convex mirrors which can warn you of oncoming traffic around the hairpin curves in the access road. We did have a GPS which was helpful. Check In Out: Check in and check out was very smooth.

Overall: We loved the villa! The location is excellent with a 5-minute commute into town, 30 minutes to Florence, and 30 minutes to Pisa. The villa is well furnished, very private, and located within a olive grove and vineyards. Enjoyed Most: The salt water pool was absolutely clean and perfect for the kids. We spent many nights after dinner playing in the pool. Enjoyed Least: Nothing! Surrounding Area: The towns of Limite e Capraia, Montelupo and Empoli are excellent small towns with good resources. Check with Francesco at the villa for the address of the gelateria in Montelupo - it is to die for! Nearby Events or Locales: Closest town is Limite e Capraia - could be walking distance but it is best to drive back and forth. Tips or Restaurants: Believe it or not, the town of Limite e Capraia has an excellent German restaurant called Lowengrube. This is a must! Directions: We used GPS to get to the villa. The turn onto the road to the villa in Limite e Capraia is not well identified - without GPS we would have missed it. It is good to know that the road from Limite e Capraia to the villa is essentially 1 lane and turns from a paved road to a dirt road. Check In Out: Check in and check out went flawlessly. Francesco and Eva were excellent hosts!

Overall: Vacation of a life time! It is a very nice property with wonderful view. Enjoyed Most: Location, the view, the garden. Surrounding Area: The property is within walking distance to the town center of Scala. We also walked to nearby tows and took taxi back to our villa. The entire region is beautiful. Nearby Events or Locales: Scala is the nearest town, but it is a small town. Both Ravello and Amalfi are close. There is a bus that runs every hour and is very cheap. Tips or Restaurants: Definitely rent a small car with nagivation system. The roads are very narrow. Ravello town center has many good places to eat. Directions: We used GPS. Check In Out: You have to make sure about parking (number of cars) before you go.

Overall: We had a great experience. The owner, Antonella, was exceptionally helpful in so many ways. The property is lovely, and a great deal of thought has been given to little touches that enhance the guest experience. Enjoyed Most: Beautiful location, very comfortable and ample indoor facilities, good outdoor facilities. Surrounding Area: So many beautiful small hill towns to visit. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest small town is Campiglia D'Orcia. Not in walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Bear in mind that Internet service is at extra cost and you will need the owner's help to set it up. Directions: Used the GPS coordinates. Called the owner for assistance. She met us and led us to the villa.

Overall: We had a great time. Enjoyed Most: The back yard and pool. Enjoyed Least: There is construction on the buildings very close to the property. Surrounding Area: It's located in the countryside and is very beautiful. Nearby Events or Locales: Empoli, but not walking distance. Directions: We used GPS.

Overall: Excellent. Enjoyed Most: The cook and the pool. Enjoyed Least: The fact that there is not good seating on the terrace attached to the house. Surrounding Area: The villa is close to all the small cities and easy to get to all places. We went to Siena, Volterra, Forti Dei Marmi, Cinque Terre and Lucca from there. Nearby Events or Locales: Balbano was within walking distance, but we had cars so we never walked. You do need a car. Tips or Restaurants: Best restaurant in Lucca is Buca's. We loved it. Freda who helps with the property knows all the great restaurants and can set you up at a beach club in Forti dei Marmi. Do that, it's great. Directions: Use GPS and use the ones from Europe.

Overall: Could not have picked a better location on Lake Como to end our 21 days in Italy. Could not have been better planned. Boat renting was easy, restaurants in Bellagio were perfect, the local folks were pleasant and the property was top rate. WOW! Enjoyed Most: The size of the property and the views from every room. We are talking about marvelous million dollar views of the lake. The location of this property was just outside of Laglio and it allowed us privacy. The outdoor yard area of this place was just too perfect. The 3 car trips to Milan for shopping and site seeing was easily accomplished via the highways. WOW. A dream location. Enjoyed Least: Street noise was very loud, but it did not detract from the overall experience. Surrounding Area: It was Lake Como. What was there NOT to enjoy. Nearby Events or Locales: Laglio and you did not want to walk to the town as the main road, Via Regina, was much too busy to walk to town. Tips or Restaurants: Just rent the property and enjoy the amenities. Be sure to rent a car, but not too big as many of the streets on the Via Regina are narrow.

Overall: We had the best time possible, it was truly a magical place with great food and activities near by. We cooked in some and there were 4 cooks in our group of 10. They love to cook and loved the kitchen. The rest of us enjoyed the yard and the pool. Enjoyed Most: That depends on who you are asking. As for me I loved all the outside furniture where you could read and watch what every one else was doing. The kids loved the outside too where you could swim and run, which they did forever. Enjoyed Least: There is nothing I disliked about the property; it was truly beautiful, quiet, and isolated from the rest of the world,. Surrounding Area: The villa was within walking distance of the town of St Agata and it was so nice when we went to town for dinner. We took a trip up or down the highway to Sorrento and it was a lot of switchbacks, but on the list of 1001 things to do before you die. Tips or Restaurants: Great restaurants in the town. The fellows who welcomed us into the villa were a great source for where to eat and what to do. About the only thing I forgot to bring was some shampoo but it wasn't hard to find. Directions: We rented A GPS system and it worked well. I'm not certain how you could do it without one. But I wasn't driving.

Overall: We really enjoyed our stay at Villa Dora. The property is in a beautiful private setting and the villa is very well equipped. All 5 bedrooms are great. Enjoyed Most: The setting on the vineyard; the welcome from the owner; the well equipped kitchen; the fact that it was stocked with groceries for dinner (including wine) and breakfast when we arrived; being able to walk into San Gimignano (1 hour roundtrip); the pool; the large outdoor dining area; and the BBQ. Enjoyed Least: The drive into the property was interesting as I had a 9-seater van. The trees at the side of the road could use a trim. But this is very minor. Surrounding Area: Being able to walk into San Gimignano (1 hour).Complete isolation in a beautiful setting surrounded by grape vines and olive grovesClose to all of the main Tuscany towns. Nearby Events or Locales: San Gimignano (1 hour roundtrip). Tips or Restaurants: Bug spray. The mosquitos do come out at dusk. Directions: Google maps worked perfectly with the co-ordinates provided. Check In Out: Could not have been better.

Overall: The property exceeded my expectations, the house was loved! The sheets were beautiful, the plates and wine glass all lovely, making it even more of a pleasure to use. The owner left us a welcome basket, essentials for our first night - pasta, salt and pepper, garlic tomatoes and wine! Enjoyed Most: The location was perfect for our family gathering, everyone had beautiful rooms - the outdoor space and gardens were beautifully kept. The kitchen was great - we cooked most meals at night, sourcing fabulous ingredients from the nearby villages and towns. Surrounding Area: The village Annuniazata was just beautiful: 1 restaurant, a small shop for essentials, a lovely cul-de-sac were people gathered for sunset drinks taking in the magnificent view. Nearby Events or Locales: We were part of a village - easy! The next and bigger town was a 5 -10 minute drive Tips or Restaurants: I would always recommend a to hire a car. The beaches are to be explored and all a drive away. Directions: We had a GPS but it didn't recognize the name of the street given as the address. Luckily the village was small and it was easy to spot. Check In Out: Eva, our key holder was fabulous. Always available through our week if we had any questions or bookings to make.

Overall: It was a magical place, far better than we all expected. The property was beautifully appointed and met all of our needs and then some. The manager, the house cleaner and the local cooks who were obtained for us were all warm and friendly and very helpful. Enjoyed Most: The location was remote and private with excellent views. The villa was spacious for us and had a wonderful feeling about it. Everyone was very comfortable and happy in it. Surrounding Area: The charm of the area, the beauty of the nature. Nearby Events or Locales: Santa Maria Annunziata was the "town" but it really only consisted of a grocery store and a first class restaurant (which was great by us!) Massa Lubrense was the next town and it was a longer walk so we always drove to it. Tips or Restaurants: La Torre restaurant is basically next door and it is an excellent one. We ate there several times. There were two good restaurants in the square of Massa Lubrense and several others we tried very nearby. Directions: The directions were great up until finding the villa itself. We were three separate cars arriving at different times and each of us circled around and around until we found it. One of us had GPS but still had trouble finding it. Of course, once we all found it, we never had trouble again!

Surrounding Area: Nice quiet and friendly town and people. Nearby Events or Locales: Vorno and yes, it's walkable. Tips or Restaurants: Just relax and enjoy. Directions: Everything was fine, no need to change anything. Check In Out: Barbara at RentVillas was great and everything went very smoothly.

Overall: We have taken many high end trips, but this was the best one we have had so far. A. Over the top. Wonderful. I don't have enough superlatives. Enjoyed Most: Very comfortable set up for a family. The bedrooms are many and large and comfortable. The food served outside, inside and by the pool was very relaxed. The pool was over the top. The whole place is well kept up and modern. We had internet access, ping pong, tennis, fous ball, petanque. We kept 9 children and 13 adults delightedly amused all week. The staff was very friendly, helpful, on the spot. We really liked Andre and Jean-Jacques, Lina, Josie-Anne and Chantal. The took great care of us. Enjoyed Least: No complaints. Surrounding Area: The surrounding Provencal area is magical. Great mountain biking and hiking. Easy access to all of the stunning Luberon region. Nearby Events or Locales: Simiande La Rotande is about 3K away. We walked and ran there often. We also biked and drove to Banon several times, which is about 7K away. Both are beautiful little perched villages. Tips or Restaurants: No good restaurants in the area, but the food at the house was great. We had a great time going to the market in Fortqualquier on Monday morning. Directions: The directions worked great. It also helped to rent a car with a GPS. Check In Out: Andre does a great job of handling everything. All went smoothly.

Overall: This was an amazing villa dating back to the 1200s. It is beautifully maintained, offers a great central meeting space and living area, and large, private bedroom and bathrooms. The grounds and views are stunningly beautiful. We ended our days outside, watching the sunset and drinking wonderful Italian wines. Heaven! Enjoyed Most: Its history, the views, the fabulous gardens, and the comfort. It truly felt like a home away from home. Enjoyed Least: The parking access, but that's Cortona! And no WiFi. But everything else was perfect. Surrounding Area: We loved being able to walk down the hill into Cortona ... and since it was a very steep hill, we certainly got our exercise. There were a number of restaurants and wine shops available. The retail shops were also great. We loved watching the children play soccer in the piazza, all the people walking with their dogs, and the atmosphere in general. We walked through the town, sightseeing, visiting the churches and the Duomo, and also walked the "flat street," visiting the parks frequented by the natives. It also served as a good central location for trips to Orvieto, Florence, Siena, Banfi, and a number of other small towns we visited. Nearby Events or Locales: Our villa was located on the top of the hill in Cortona. Tips or Restaurants: We rented a WiFi enhancer so we could access email and the internet.GREAT FINDS Stop at Molesini's Enoteca Wineshop and do a wine tasting with Marco. Fabulous! They make it very easy to purchase and ship wine home.We had dinner our first night in Cortona at Locanda al Pozzo Antico Ristorante, which was outstanding. We sat in a courtyard area that was beautifully lit. The steak was wonderful, as was the veal.We had a lunch experience on Sunday at Trattoria Dardano. Paolo Castelli, the owner, makes everyone feel welcome. Many of the people at lunch spoke only Italian. They are regulars who come every Sunday after church. It was lively, we shared wine with the locals, and the food was extraordinary. But the highlight of our trip was when we had the Personal Chef of Cortona come to our villa to cook dinner for my husband's 60th birthday. We booked it through RentVillas. The appetizers included zucchini soup with parmesan crisps, caprese salad, and bruschetta. The gnocchi in duck sauce was wonderful. And their own version of tiramusu was delicious. The main course, veal, was also wonderfully seasoned. Directions: We were met by the owner and taken to the villa. So obviously there was nothing you could do to improve that experience! Check In Out: The process was very easy and everyone was warm and welcoming.
