Overall: The whole family enjoyed our week in the villa. The owner was very warm and welcoming. She gave us a huge basket of fresh fruit and vegetables from the market, plus some pasta and a bottle of Chianti, so that we wouldn't have to shop on our first night. She also gave us some good travel recommendations and she took us into town a couple of mornings later, to show us where to buy the best produce and where to get the best pizza. There were lots of thoughtful touches - lotions, shampoos, soap, tissues, adaptor plugs, radio, CD's and player, hair dryer. She also provided swim towels. It really felt like home. The housekeeper came twice during our stay to clean, wash any pots and pans etc. and to provide clean towels. We did not use the spa-pool as we preferred swimming in the Mediterranean. It might be more useful in cooler weather as it is much more a spa than a pool - it is only 15 ft x 9ft and made of fibre glass. Enjoyed Most: We loved the patios which had great views and were wonderful for outdoor dining. We had breakfast on the kitchen-side patio every morning. We loved the coziness of the kitchen and family room area. The cooks could socialize with the rest of the family while cooking. The living room was also a nice spot during the day. Enjoyed Least: The master bed was on a raised platform with two steps. They were a bit of a hazard, especially if you had to get up during the night. The master bath was very spacious and modern. The bed in one of the other rooms - which was a lovely room with a great view and a balcony - was only a full-size bed not totally comfortable for an adult couple. The shared bathroom smelled a bit musty at times but was generally OK. The bathroom downstairs was fine.We thought the living room would have been more warm and welcoming in the evening with softer lighting - such as some standing lamps instead of the overhead candelabra. Also, the pillows were uncomfortable. Surrounding Area: We loved the views of the bay and the privacy, while only being a short walk to a restaurant, the bus, the supermarket and a patisserie. The garden and surrounding trees were lush, with a hammock and fountains. Very peaceful. Nearby Events or Locales: La Spezia is ideal as a jumping off point for Cinque Terra. The train station is seven minutes away from the villa, and the trains to Cinque Terra are frequent and cheap. La Spezia itself also has charm and interest, contrary to how most guidebooks describe it. We also enjoyed the next coastal town - Portovenere - which you can reach either via car, bus or ferry, but not the train. Tips or Restaurants: Rent a scooter rather than a car - parking is not only hard to find but you can only park in one spot for an hour which makes a day trip a gamble that you won't get a parking ticket. The trains and buses are very convenient and much faster than driving. We took cabs to and from bus and train stations. Check In Out: The owner was very efficient in getting us checked in and out, while at the same time giving us helpful information at check-in about where to go and what to see. She took us to the train station after we'd settled up.

Overall: Lovely property with beautiful views. The owner was very nice and helpful. We used his cook, Ada, one night and that was fabulous. Enjoyed Most: The views and peacefulness. Enjoyed Least: The access road was long and winding; challenging with a larger vehicle. Surrounding Area: Great location and everything was close. The train station was only 5 miles away. All of the areas we visited were beautiful. Nearby Events or Locales: Cortona is the nearest town, but not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: The villa was well-equipped. We brought things we didn't need. There is a mid-week towel change and weekly cleaning. There was a good supply of garbage bags and toilet paper. If you plan on cooking, purchase/bring your ingredients. We like the restaurant in the Lucca Hotel in Cortona and another restaurant in Pergo, which is down the hill. A bit pricey but excellent food and service. Directions: The directions were great but it should be noted that the access road is uphill, narrow and winding. We had to trade in our first rental car (too big), and this took time away from the trip. Check In Out: The owner was very helpful and accommodating with luggage.

Overall: The whole group enjoyed the villa and all the outside terraces and balconies. The views from the villa were the best of the whole lake. This is an extraordinary property and extremely well run. We received fresh linens several times and the maid came to make up the bed in the living room on Monday. It was more wonderful than the pictures online. Enjoyed Most: The fabulous views from every room was a real plus. The well stocked kitchen and lovely terraces made us decide to spend more time at the villa than touring the lake. The little local store up the steps from the villa supplied great croissants in the mornings. The villa had everything one needs to enjoy a relaxing vacation. Enjoyed Least: The long walk to the villa and the crumbling stairs up to the main door. Also, one chair was broken on the terrace, but everything else was in great repair and extremely clean and the description explained the difficulty in reaching this villa. Surrounding Area: We enjoyed the close location by boat from Menaggio to other cities particularly to Bellagio and Varenna. Our favorite town by far was Menaggio. We also traveled by car over the mountain from Menaggio to Lake Lugano and stopped at the local golf course. We also spent a day traveling by car to Lake Maggiore and the Bormean Islands. We took a day trip by train through the alps to St. Moritz. The train ride is on the World site list going from 400 meters to 7000 meters without the use of a cog rail. It was worth the hour drive to the train station in northern Italy Nearby Events or Locales: Donga was the largest town nearby but there was a little grocery and pizzeria in the village of our villa. Donga was not really within walking distance but this is where we found the greatest grocery store. They offered many freshly prepared dishes. Tips or Restaurants: Bring a flashlight for late returns to the villa. We found numerous good restaurants. We had a lovely meal at the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia on the roof--reservations suggested--very romantic with the moon and view and Italian opera. Directions: We used a GPS, however the directions worked well.

Overall: Overall it was relaxing and certainly lived up to expectations. Enjoyed Most: Privacy and relaxing atmosphere and also the overall charm of the exquisitely restored building. Enjoyed Least: Unfortunately we had problems with the beautiful pool as the amount of chlorine caused excessive stinging of the eyes. There were a couple of broken pool chairs, as well. We mentioned both issues to the owner. He gave us a small discount on the electricity bill since we were unable to use the pool. Editor's Note: The owner confirmed that the automatic chlorinator malfunctioned, and it has been replaced. For the 2014 season, all outside furniture and BBQ will be replaced. Surrounding Area: The views, privacy and relaxing atmosphere, great walks. Nearby Events or Locales: Not within walking distance so; we had to drive in.

Overall: Very nice. Carmen and Giovanni are great. They were ever ready to help with outings, etc. Enjoyed Most: Roomy and well-maintained. Enjoyed Least: The local village is quaint but not much is there. Nearby Events or Locales: It's a 15-minute walk downhill to the village, and a 30-minute walk back uphill. Tips or Restaurants: Nearby restaurants are the highlight of Villa Agata.

Overall: We had a very enjoyable time. Villa Adelina is a charming rustic farmhouse in a lovely quiet location, about a fifteen minute drive from Castellina in Chianti. Our stay was from September 13 - 20, 2014, so we did not use the pool. Even though there are no screens on the windows, bugs were never a problem. Enjoyed Most: The beautiful peaceful setting. The rustic charm of the building. The large kitchen. The proximity to Castellina in Chianti. The house was clean and the grounds were well-maintained. Plus, there's plenty of space for anyone who wants to find time to be alone. The free wi-fi was a bonus and it worked well! Enjoyed Least: The driveway is in poor condition. You need a vehicle with high clearance to negotiate it, so it deterred us from going out in the evenings. The villa has rooms we never used--like the study. It would have suited us better to have a larger living room, but we solved the problem by moving one of the couches from the study to the living room. The bathroom towels are thin, the kitchen lighting is poor, and there are no sharp knives. Editor's Note: New, high quality bath towels have been provided. October, 2014 Surrounding Area: Castello Brolio, the wine festival in Greve. The towns of Greve, Panzano, Radda, Volpaia and Vertine. Volterra and San Gimignano can be done in a day trip. (It's best to go to San Gimignano first thing in the morning.) We also visited Lucca (1 12 hours away). An interesting town, though their market was a disappointment. Siena was an easy day trip. Nearby Events or Locales: Castellina in Chianti is about a fifteen-minute drive. It's a great little town to explore, plus it has a "COOP" supermarket and fabulous butcher shop. There's nothing within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: The towels are thin, but if you won't be using the pool, use the pool towels as bathroom towels. Editor's Note: New, high quality bath towels have been provided. October, 2014.The kitchen was stocked with dishwasher and liquid detergent, sponges, coffee filters and paper towels. There was plenty of toilet paper, but you'll need to bring (or buy) any spices you plan to use, including salt and pepper. There were no sharp knives in the kitchen. You'll also need your own shampoo, body soap, etc. We had a lovely meal at Cantina Squarcialupi in Castellina. We also had Dora cook for us. The price was very reasonable, but it would have been more fun if we could have communicated with her. (She does not speak English.) Editor's Note: Toilet paper, bath soap, dishwasher and washing machine detergents, paper towels, and garbage bags are provided. New, high quality bath towels were also installed in October, 2014. Directions: The directions to the property were fine. Check In Out: Check in check out was a breeze. A staff member led us to the villa.

Overall: The home itself is very nice and as represented. Enjoyed Most: Physical structure was as represented and very nice ...especially the outside kitchen and dining area. All areas were very liveable and well appointed. Enjoyed Least: Use of the kitchen was a challenge ... the stove controls were out of order, the coffee pot was slow, and the oven was very slow to heat! The key holder spoke almost no English and was unable to explain how to operate appliances. We had to figure them out on our own, which felt like a waste of time. Surrounding Area: Wonderful area ... the town center, the proximity to sights and hill towns. Very fine restaurants ... one "relais" within 12 mile. Nearby Events or Locales: St. Remy ... walking was more than most would want to do! Tips or Restaurants: Insect repellent is a necessity during mosquito season! Otherwise there are excellent markets available for any and all. Experiment on the many good restaurants ... especially the "relais" nearby, name forgotten! All wines were very good. Directions: The GPS coordinates provided were inaccurate and we had a difficult time finding the property. Check In Out: Please note that the key holder speaks almost no English. A working knowledge of French is invaluable!

Overall: The property met our expectations. It's a place 4 families could hang out all day by the swimming pool, and keep both children and parents happy. Enjoyed Most: The space. Lots of room both inside and outside for the kids to play. The reasonably shallow swimming pool was perfect for children, and they spent a lot of time in there. Happy kids make happy parents.... Enjoyed Least: The furniture, and especially the chairs, did not meet the standard of the property as a whole. They were uncomfortable to sit on, and every time we sat on one, we were afraid that it would break (which eventually happened). Surrounding Area: The area was beautiful, and the beach nearby was perfect for us. Nearby Events or Locales: Lagos, within walking distance for the adults, but too far away when walking together. We used our cars to travel into town for dinner. Tips or Restaurants: One of the restaurants at the beach was very good, with great fish dishes. The Portuguese cuisine is all about seafood. Our recommendation is to have fish/seafood as often as you can. Check In Out: Check in and check out was perfect. No problem

Overall: Very good. We were pleased to have an apartment in Rome instead of a hotel. We were traveling with another couple, and it made it easier to have a common living space to make plans for the next day. Enjoyed Most: The bedrooms were very roomy and comfortable. Enjoyed Least: It is advertised as two bathrooms. The second bathroom is more like a closet and you can hardly close the door without your legs in the way. There was also no light in the bathroom. Also, the shower drained slowly and would spill out into the other part of the bathroom. The air-conditioner in one of the bedrooms wouldn't stop clicking/rattling which kept you awake. Editor's Note: There is only one bathroom listed in the description. Surrounding Area: Great street, lots of shopping and restaurants and close to a plaza with lots of churches. Also close to Termini station where you could catch an inexpensive cab. Tips or Restaurants: Overall, this apartment was pretty well equipped. I would suggest bringing wash cloths, dishclothes, dishsoap and extra toilet paper. There is no dishwasher or washing machine and we couldn't get the computer to work. Check In Out: We were charged an additional 20 euros for late check-in, however we were only 15 minutes late because of traffic and trying to find the address. I thought that they could have given us a break on that.

Overall: We enjoyed our stay. Claudia is an excellent host and very knowledgeable about the area. Loved the cooking class and met some very nice people who were also staying there. Fabulous atmosphere. Tuscany could easily have been "the Garden of Eden". Enjoyed Most: The atmosphere was so peaceful. And quiet. A great place to relax and enjoy the good life. Surrounding Area: The natural beauty and the history of the area. Also, shopping is great if you are into that. Nearby Events or Locales: Staggia, and no it is not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Villa is very well furnished. Would suggest bring a few days worth of food to start. Two great restaurants in Monteriggioni, about 15 minutes away by car. Check In Out: These processes were a clean and easy as could be.

Overall: Overall, our stay was wonderful. The owners of the property were lovely people. We had our own little outside seating area which was nice after a day of outings. The kitchen was well-equipped with dishes, utensils, pots, and pans so it was great to shop locally and prepare our own dinners; there was also a BBQ that we used one evening. The wine was some of the best we tasted in Tuscany and having it so close in the 'wine room' was great. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was Staggia; we did not walk but it was within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: I found the evenings got quite chilly, so I would recommend a sweatshirt to put on in the mornings as the heat does not get turned on until November.Bring a blow dryer. Directions: The property was a little hard to find if you did not come in by the autostrada, so having a map or GPS is helpful.

Overall: This vacation was memorable. I hope to be back next year. Once you go, you don't want to leave. Enjoyed Most: The peace and quiet was so relaxing. Just to sit on the patio at night with a glass of wine made the vacation wonderful. The caretakers Claudia, Rita and Franco were so nice. On arriving they gave us a bottle of wine from their vineyard and it was excellent. So were the other wines and the Vin Santo! On another day they knocked on the door with a homemade fruit torte. They couldn't have made us feel more welcomed. It was like we were family. The kitchen was great to have so you could cook your dinner if you didn't feel like dining out. Each villa had their own private area to enjoy. So we had dinner outside a few nights. They also had a grill in case you wanted to barbeque. Enjoyed Least: Our apartment didn't have a screen on the windows. I noticed that the upstairs apartments had them. The bugs however weren't that bad when we were there. Surrounding Area: The area was so nice and the people were extremely friendly. San Gimignano was so close, as was Siena. Also, theChianti region is right there. If you get a chance go to Lucca . It was a wonderful town. Pisa was about two hours away. Visiting the towns were great day trips and and gave you time to get back to villa to relax by the pool before dinner. Nearby Events or Locales: The nearest town was Staggia. You really did need a car to get around. They did have a small supermarket , the Coop. If you travel a little further to Poggibonsi you can go to the SuperCoop. They had everything there! Tips or Restaurants: You don't need to bring a thing. The apartments are fully loaded. You share a washer with the other guests. Great restaurants in Staggia are Babette and La Corte del Goloso. Both are close by. If you like fish go to Babette and just have the chef bring you out food. It was wonderful. The gnocchi at La Corte del Goloso just melted in your mouth. If you go to Trattoria della Rana in Staggia just order the pizza. If you are in Florence go to I Due G Double G's. It was right by the train station. Amazing. Directions: Directions were good. You really had to pay attention. to the road signs. Check In Out: Rita checked us in and she was so kind. Claudia then checked up on us the next morning. They were wonderful.

Overall: The villa, the owners, and the views were exceptional. Enjoyed Most: The villa we had was very comfortable and the grounds provided a restful environment. There were sights to view from anywhere on the property. There were staff members tending the grounds everyday. Although we did not use them, the pool and the tennis court were appealing. Surrounding Area: The views, the lushness of the surrounding areas, and the nearby villages. Nearby Events or Locales: Staggia was probably within walking distance although we drove. Tips or Restaurants: Don't overpack. We found a restaurant in the next village up from Staggia which we visited twice. The food was very good, the prices very fair, and outside seating. Directions: Learning how to drive in Italy in general is a challenge. We stopped several times for directions, which was difficult because of the language barrier. Check In Out: The check in/out were without incident. Claudia provided computer-generated directions to the airport.

Overall: We had a very pleasant stay. The property is lovely, and the owners, Claudia and Rudy, are wonderful people who made us feel very welcome. The estate is charming and very peaceful. It is also a working farm. Guests are made to feel very much at home and needs are attended to immediately, but you are not pampered. Instead, you are left to wander the beautiful fields of grapes and olives, relax by the pool, or nap in the shade of a tree. Advice is readily available on everything from restaurants to grocery stores, and from doctors to pharmacies. Enjoyed Most: Beautiful and well-maintained without being fussy. Gorgeous view, a working Tuscan farm. Enjoyed Least: We had no issues with the property. Surrounding Area: Access to various Tuscan attractions, from a charming, relaxing rural home base. Nearby Events or Locales: Staggia was within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: If you enjoy exceptional cuisine, Arnolfo's in the historic village of Colle Val d'Elsa is only 10 minutes by car. Well worth it! Directions: We did not use GPS, and had no problem finding the property.

Overall: The property was very nicely decorated and the main attraction was the terrace which made for wonderful evenings outside! Enjoyed Most: The Terrace! Enjoyed Least: The Kitchen. Surrounding Area: We enjoyed the view from the Terrace and convenience to the Metro line and the also the Supermarket and Formaggio and Pizza shops! Nearby Events or Locales: Aurelia and no it was not walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: Bug spray for sitting outside on the Terrace. We found a great restaurant but I do not recall the name. It was about an 8 minute walk from the apartment. Directions: We used a taxi; it would not be easy to find on your own but we did not use a GPS. Check In Out: We ended up waiting 45 minutes for someone to finally meet us. Once we connected everything else was fine. One thing I would be clear on is the mandatory occupancy tax that you must pay in Rome per person per night.

Overall: Quiet building, friendly and convenient location on Ile St. Louis. Enjoyed Most: Views are tremendous. Location puts you within walking and Metro/RER distance of everything. Enjoyed Least: Small, single W/C. Surrounding Area: Friendly, picturesque, nice bistros for relaxing, Notre Dame at your doorstep. Nearby Events or Locales: We rented a car and took a day trip to Giverny to see Claude Monet's house and gardens - highly recommended. Tips or Restaurants: Bring your own electrical plugs and voltage adapters. Check In Out: It was fine.

Overall: It was a great place, location was perfect, very pleasant surroundings inside and out. Enjoyed Most: Location; inside was very roomy, convenient, and clean. Enjoyed Least: The WiFi was lousy. Connection kept going in and out (mostly out). Surrounding Area: Bella Napoli restaurant, cafes, and pizza places were all great; there are markets nearby, and it's within walking distance to Vatican. Tips or Restaurants: Eating in is great too, with the markets nearby, fresh ingredients available.

Overall: Great location, comfortable bed, overall a very positive experience. The key holder arrived promptly. Car service from the airport was very convenient. Enjoyed Most: Location, close to Trevi fountain and all of the great sites. Enjoyed Least: Only minor complaint was that the kitchen area could have used a bit of a clean. Surrounding Area: Great sites all nearby: Trevi fountain, Spanish steps etc. Also, easy access to a Spar supermarket. Nearby Events or Locales: Rome. Tips or Restaurants: Don't forget to bring your own supplies of bath soap and shampoo. Also bring your own face cloths as we found Italian rental sites have lots of towels but no face cloths. Directions: All good. Check In Out: Might be helpful in the notes in the flat and also for check-in person to explain hot water heater.
