Overall: The villa was better than expected. We loved it. You definitely need a car. Enjoyed Most: Loved the view of the church and all the architecture. It was very private and had a nice yard. Enjoyed Least: The entrance driveway to the property. Surrounding Area: Location was good. Travelled to Cortona and other surrounding towns. Liked being not far from Cortona for shopping and dining. Nearby Events or Locales: Cortona--not within walking distance. Tips or Restaurants: All the food was wonderful. In Cortona, go to Molesini wine shop. Marco was very helpful and speaks English. Directions: We did not have a GPS, which would have helped. Had to call owners a few times to confirm directions, but their English isn't good. Texting was much easier. We were very glad to arrive at the villa. Check In Out: We liked the adventure. It's helpful to know some Italian.

Overall: View was breathtaking! Hospitality was superb. Enjoyed Most: View. Enjoyed Least: A bit isolated from the city. Surrounding Area: Just being on the Amalfi Coast. Nearby Events or Locales: Ravello. 12 miles. Tips or Restaurants: Lack of WiFi was almost a deal breaker. Although many places in Ravello have WiFi availability, going into town was required. Directions: We rented a private car through RentVillas so we didn't need to know directions. Check In Out: Seamless. On site folks were attentive and accommodating.

Overall: Very quiet and relaxing. Enjoyed Most: The view. Enjoyed Least: The kitchen is very small. Surrounding Area: The beautiful view. Nearby Events or Locales: You must have a car to reach Pontassieve, the closest town. Tips or Restaurants: If you are going to cook - bring plastic Ziploc bags. The local Coop grocery store does not have them. Also, if you cook with salt or want salt on your food - a small container is a good idea to bring with you.

Overall: I love the peace and quite and loved walking around the castle grounds. Enjoyed Most: We had our own patio outside the kitchen to hang out and talk to our friends and share glasses of wine and cheese and salami. Loved the grotto. Surrounding Area: Everything. Nearby Events or Locales: About a 7 minute walk.

Overall: Located in the pre-medieval part of Cortona. Beautifully restored. Enjoyed Most: The owner was most helpful, and his mother provided a wonderful meal for us upon our arrival. Ivan also brought us fresh vegetables from his farm, and his mother gave is a delicious Tiramisu dessert. Enjoyed Least: My wife and I are 83, and the walk down to the shops and back is on a 45 degree angle cobblestone street. That is tough, especially coming back up. So any future renters should be in tip-top shape. Tips or Restaurants: We drove to Assisi, took the ferry to Isola Maggiore on Lago Trasimeno, drove to Siena and Montepulciano, to taste the Vino Nobile - excellent! We definitely should have had a cell phone! As far as restaurants are concerned, we recommend the "Osteria Del Teatro."

Overall: We enjoyed it. Enjoyed Most: The view was exceptional. Enjoyed Least: The upstairs bedroom and the access through the bathroom. Surrounding Area: The pool area, the view, and the nearby villages. Nearby Events or Locales: Varenna was a 20 minute slow walk downhill and even slower back. Tips or Restaurants: Be prepared for the second bedroom. Directions: Long winding road to reach destination.

Overall: We had a lovely time at Casa Antonella, one of the properties on a gated estate, located high above the village of Varenna. Living in the large and comfortable house and enjoying the many views it afforded made for a memorable vacation. Enjoyed Most: THE VIEWS OF LAKE COMO and the surrounding mountains. Some of the higher peaks were snow-capped in late September and early October. The dining room and terraces were the perfect perches for watching the cloud formations, sunsets, and changing weather patterns. The small swimming pool was still filled with ice cold water for a bracing dip during a warm day and the pool area had several chaise lounges for taking in the sun. The hot water heater in the entry way produced lots of hot water for doing the dishes and showering. Enjoyed Least: This being Italy, the electrical system is underpowered by US standards and appliances such as the oven and electric coffee maker and kettle often blew a fuse if used at the same time. But there is a fuse box in the entry way to access to flip switches and power up. We did not use the electric dishwasher or washing machine (couldn't figure out the dials) but did some hand laundry and used the drying rack on the top floor terrace for drying the old fashioned way. Also, some of the shower stalls leaked but not so bad that it caused floods. The bathtub in the largest bathroom is simply too narrow for any normal sized person so we didn't bother using it. Surrounding Area: The location of the villa high above Varenna next to the tiny hilltop village of Vezio was unique. Vezio has the look of a medieval village with stone streets, tiny stone houses, and the ruins of a medieval castle complete with resident raptors. Access to the town via automobile is along a series of narrow switchback roads. By foot, one must hike up a precipitous pathway to get from Varenna on the lakefront to the villa. Nearby Events or Locales: The villa is located high above the village of Varenna in Vezio. One must drive up a steep switchback road to reach a single lane road to reach the villa which is located directly behind and above a large white gate. One opens and closes the gate with a key. It is possible to hike up to the villa from Varenna but one must be physically fit to make it. Therefore, a car is a necessity for reaching the property from Varenna. No cars are permitted in Vezio - it's accessible by pedestrians only. But that's part of the charm of the place. Tips or Restaurants: Rent a car and be prepared to nimbly walk around natural stone pathways and staircases which dot the villa. Buy food and wine in EuroSpin supermarket south of Varenna in Lierna or Mandelo del Lario or buy small supplies of things in the shops in Varenna. If driving a car, note that parking is very limited. White parking lines are free, blue require paying for a parking ticket, and yellow lines are for residents. Our party cooked and ate at home which allowed us to savor the excellent food and wine of the area but there are many formal and informal spots to eat in town. If renting in the autumn bring several warm sweaters because there is no heat in the house despite having two fireplaces. Directions: If driving from Malpensa airport, drive directly to Como then head east to Lecco and up the east side of the lake. This allows you to avoid taking the ferry from Menaggio to Varenna. Our rental car had GPS in Russian so we couldn't use it and had to rely on our trusty Michelin map and own sense of direction. On returning to Malpensa, follow the same route. I made the mistake of taking the autostrada to Milan and ended up in the central city and no where near the airport. Check In Out: It was seamless since I called the property owner the day before we left and told her when we expected to arrive. Upon arrival at the villa gate, we rang the doorbell and were met by Stella, one of the keyholders. She signed us in and took our security deposit and gave us a quick tour of the house. Although she didn't speak English, we managed to get the gist of her information.

Overall: Amazing views of the Portovenere bay from the comfort of an air conditioned and neat apartment with walking access to little town shopping. Enjoyed Most: Views, proximity to the beach, short walk to restaurants and shops, comfortable and neat apartment, nicely remodeled. Enjoyed Least: Only one shower and kind of small. Surrounding Area: Everything... Perfect beach town, not as touristy with amazing local restaurants. Nearby Events or Locales: Portovenere old town just a short walk away. La Spezia, bigger town, also a few minutes car drive. Tips or Restaurants: Enjoy Petite Bistro just down the street... fresh local fish, and very good and friendly service. Directions: Didn't use them... GPS. Check In Out: Fast and efficient.

Enjoyed Most: Location in central Bath behind Royal Crescent, with access to many local and regional attractions. A comfortable, nicely finished apartment. Very close to convenience store, easy walk to a good full-range supermarket, Waitrose. Off-street car park garage also within easy walking distance. Provision of a welcome basket with breakfast cereal, fruit, milk etc. also a nice touch - more than the typical teabag and dry cookies. The housekeeper was very helpful and friendly, particularly when there was a minor problem with the lock-up garage when the outside doors malfunctioned. Enjoyed Least: Second bedroom is small and difficult to get around the bed without crawling over it. Kitchen-dining area arrangement is tight for getting four people around to serve meals etc. Only one bathroom in apartment accommodating four adults. The apartment is on the 3rd floor in US terms. Access for elderly could be a problem - although walking up and down the hills in Bath is no easier, and the view is better because of the height. Surrounding Area: More good things to see than possible on any holiday. Tips or Restaurants: Rental properties with kitchens never seem to have good sharp knives or good can openers, even if otherwise well equipped. If you're happy to make do that's OK, otherwise bring your own. The Bath tourist bus is a waste of time for the loop through the central city - makes long pauses in not very scenic locations, and very slow progress in general, if you want to use it as a shuttle between destinations. However, it is essential if you want to get out to the skyline walk and Prior Park to the south-east of town - both are lovely.

Overall: Very Roman. The apartment was just as advertised and better than the photos indicated. Bright and airy, with a very lively terrace. Facilities were roomy and private. Open air circulation avoided the need for any air conditioning although it was very warm (upper 80's F). This is a great location, being just across the Tiber from Trastevere where the best retaurants are located and most locals eat. Enjoyed Most: Location, space and air. The terrace was a delight. (I am not talking aboiut a "view". There was no "view", just a wonderful openess.) Enjoyed Least: 1. Lack of water pressure made the showering difficult.2. Great location, but noisy with the windows open, being just above a busy (at all hours) street. Chalk this up to part of the experience and not a bad trade off for not having to usethe A/C. Surrounding Area: Dining and proximity of sights. Very local, not at all touristy. Tips or Restaurants: Trastevere is the place ot eat and relax with the locals. Directions: Taxi driver took us to the end of the block. Rome is no place for un-initiated drivers.

Overall: We felt the place was as as we expected. Enjoyed Most: The location without a doubt. Enjoyed Least: None of the bathroom doors locked Surrounding Area: The location was within walking distance of many historic sights, piazzas and shopping. Tips or Restaurants: This apartment is located in a very hard to reach spot and you cannot drive to the front door. Check In Out: The owner was close by when we got there and met us at the place.

Overall: Very favorable experience. Hassan was prompt and efficient, introduced us to every detail that we needed to know to make our stay pleasant. Enjoyed Most: Location. Enjoyed Least: Nothing. Surrounding Area: The Campo dei Fiori area may be the best place in Rome for walking and people watching. Directions: We are familiar with this area and did not use or need GPS, we do walk with a compass in our pocket which helped in the decision of "turn right or left" more than once. Check In Out: All went as smoothly as we could have possibly wanted.

Overall: We had a great time, and would love to rent it again and again. I was most anxious about paying for the rental in full before seeing the apartment, but happily, all of my expectations were fulfilled. Enjoyed Most: The location on the via Giubinari was spectacular. The building was very well kept and neat. We had lots of privacy and felt like Italians living in Rome. Enjoyed Least: Figuring out the best way to get hot water in the shower. Surrounding Area: The via Giubinari speaks for itself. It is like living in the heart of the West Village in Manhattan, wonderful shops and resturants nearby, lots of activity, in the heart of Rome, close to all the wonderful monuments and piazzas. Nearby Events or Locales: Rome is a walking city. Tips or Restaurants: Make sure you have enough space for all of the people in your party. We had two adults and two children during our stay, and having two bathrooms was very important. A third bedroom would have been nice, but not as important as the extra bath.

Overall: Very Good. The Owner's Rep who met us was very helpful and gave us some great recommendations! He was also very friendly and spoke great English! Enjoyed Most: Location was excellent; the outside terraces; the apartment was very clean and tidy when we arrived! Enjoyed Least: Lots of noise at night, but the location made up for this! Surrounding Area: The proximity to everything! Nearby Events or Locales: All of Rome is very accessible from this apt! Tips or Restaurants: Go across the river for some really good restaurants that are much cheaper! Directions: We used GPS which is almost a must if you plan to drive into Rome! Check In Out: The property mananger was very helpful and gave us some great recommendations for food and drinks!

Overall: My wife and I were very happy with our hosts and felt the house and location were fabulous. it was like living in the Garden of Eden with the most luscious figs, almond trees and pomegranates. The view and the traditional construction of the home certainly enhanced our experience. Enjoyed Most: The view and the traditional construction of the home. Enjoyed Least: The master bed and the pillows. The bed had a plastic cover on the mattress and was hard. The pillows were thin and hard. The road access was difficult and would be potentially non accessible for anyone driving a sports car. Surrounding Area: St Remy is well located for sight seeing with many interesting areas within a 30 - 40 minute drive. The town itself was large enough to offer many shopping opportunities and restaurants. Nearby Events or Locales: St Remy was the closest town but not in walking distance. A car was essential. Tips or Restaurants: I suggest you accept the hard beds and consider buying extra pillows to enhance your stay. Directions: I did use a GPS during my stay which was a considerable help. Finding the property was done solely by following your directions. I did do a dry run using Google Earth prior to my arrival which helped considerably. Check In Out: The owners could not speak any English. I was able to speak French so this did not present a problem to me but I am not clear how difficult this would be for non french speaking guests.

Overall: We had a really lovely time, despite the fact that it rained for 5 of the 7 days that we were at this property! Enjoyed Most: The view was amazing, though the coast road and the local bus were a bit scary at first! We loved the fact that when we arrived, tired and wet from a day's traveling, the fridge and cupboard were well stocked so we didn't have to rush around to get supplies. Enjoyed Least: The stairs! But we were well warned about this. Surrounding Area: We loved the scenery along the Amalfi coast. Nearby Events or Locales: Montepertuso is within walking distance. Some good little markets/shops. Positano is accessible by the local bus, which runs once an hour. Tips or Restaurants: My husband says the Limoncello is better from Sorrento than from Positano!! Also, be careful of some of the cafes in Positano, the price more than doubles if you want to eat your cake at a table rather than take it away--a 2 Euro eclaire became 5 Euros. Directions: We were met by the lovely agent who we then followed to the property--it was all very easy.

Overall: The overall experience was excellent. Enjoyed Most: The location. It is walking distance from the train station, about 10 minutes. You are literally in the middle of the shopping district and there are major bazaars or markets five minutes away. The Duomo, one of the major attractions in Florence, is up the street. Enjoyed Least: I'm lazy, so a dishwasher would have been great. Surrounding Area: There is something for everyone. Shopping, tours, even a merry-go-round. Tips or Restaurants: Go easy on the luggage. The are lots of narrow steps up to the apartment.

Overall: It was very nice vacation for all of us! Enjoyed Most: The location was super! Enjoyed Least: It wasn't air-conditioned. The apartment is on the 4th floor without elevator. Surrounding Area: Fontana dei Trevi Tips or Restaurants: Pay attention to the lack of air-conditioning, especially if you're booking during the summer period. Everything is avaialable for purchased nearby and there is no need to bring a lot of supplies.
