About SAMi The Sleep Activity Monitor:

SAMi® is a video-based sleep activity monitor for parents, caregivers and individuals that need to watch carefully for unusual movements at night. SAMi can detect and alarm on all types of movement, with settings that can be easily customized to your individual needs. During sleep, the SAMi camera's proprietary technology monitors for unusual or abnormal movement in the field of view. When abnormal movement is detected, an alarm sounds on the Apple device running the SAMi iOS app (iPhone / iPod / iPad / Mac) and displays a live video / audio feed. Within seconds, the individual or caregiver can take any necessary action. SAMi will not only reliably alert you to abnormal movement, but automatically records high quality video and audio of the event, providing invaluable video evidence for Neurologists, Epileptologists, and other Healthcare providers to accurately diagnose and prescribe effective treatment plans. “The Sami sleep activity monitor has been absolutely life-saving for our family. It has never missed a seizure, and I genuinely believe every parent with a child that has epilepsy should have this in their home. Having the ability to catch a seizure quickly while your child is sleeping can make an enormous difference and avoid sudep. While everyone’s situation is unique, in our experience this monitor has been an essential safety tool. I am incredibly grateful for this monitor and the peace of mind it brings. Highly, highly recommend.”

“Some of the features are difficult to figure out, like how to set the alarm feature. I also have issues with the monitor not staying connected at times, which is frustrating, but easily fixed usually. I do need to figure out how/who to give the monitor stuff to for her when she goes to college in a couple months.”

Thanks so much for sharing this, and for sticking with the system even when it’s frustrating. Some of the settings—especially the alarm—can definitely be confusing at first. A couple things that should help: For an overview of all the app settings and features, this User Manual is a good place to start: https://support.samialert.com/hc/en-us/articles/9207155110925-SAMi-3-Manual-Overview-of-SAMi-App-Settings-Features We also have a step-by-step guide focused just on how to set up and adjust the alarm here: https://support.samialert.com/hc/en-us/articles/24073653830541-SAMi-Settings-Guide-Adjusting-Your-SAMi-Settings-For-The-First-Time For the connection drops, I’m glad they’re easily fixed, but I know it’s still annoying. If you’d like, we can help you troubleshoot what might be causing it (Wi-Fi, distance, etc.) and get things more stable. On the college question: we can absolutely help you think through what she’ll need to take with her and how to set things up in her new environment so she’s still supported. “Sami so far has been very helpful with monitoring our daughter and her seizure activity. Not so straightforward to connect a second device so the primary iPad doesn’t have to be carried around throughout the house. I’m sure I’m just missing a step. We have not yet had any alarm signaling which is a good thing so time will tell how well the monitoring actually works for alerting of a seizure versus involuntary movement as she is very spastic with her cerebral palsy and holoprosenphaly”

“Right now, after having a couple of weeks with it, it is still needing a lot of trouble shooting. We have given up for a bit and continue sleeping with our son. Will try again later this week but need to get some sleep. Constantly woken up by the alarm.”
