Do NOT rent from this company!!! I went against my better judgement after seeing these reviews and thought these were just disgruntled customers. These 1 star reviews are an accurate representation of this company. You are taking a big risk booking with them and giving them your credit card information. I was charged over $3000 for a mechanical breakdown after 3 hours of use. We got a manual car because my husband drives a manual truck at home. He has been driving manual cars for 2 decades without issue. It is not safe to rent a manual car from them because people drive them poorly, they don't service them and they are a ticking time bomb. We did not smell burning clutch when using it and when we tried to use it the following day, the clutch was fully depressed as if the clutch cable snapped. We called their roadside assistance and they got a 3rd party mechanic to tow it. The mechanic that picked it up said the cable appears to be broken and it was from wear and tear. He said it was not our fault. We talked to the SixT fleet employee regarding a replacement car while the 3rd party was towing the car and he said "We will give you an automatic car so you don't burn out another clutch". The fleet employee hasn't even looked at the car yet!! I smell SCAM. Instead of the 3rd party mechanic writing a report of the issue, SixT insisted on picking up the car themselves and reviewing the damage. Complete conflict of interest. They charged our credit card for the tow and "damage" before even giving us a receipt. We had to ask for it after the fact. They wrote on the report "burnt clutch". How can they prove this clutch was not already damaged before we picked it up. I asked for service logs of the car and they refused to provide me with them. It is clear that Sixt does not properly service their cars. When we picked up the car from the airport, we noticed a lot of additional exterior damage that was not logged on the pick up report. I was concerned so I took a video and asked an employee if this was enough proof incase they tried to charge us. The employee said "don't worry about it". I didn't even think they would charge us for a break down. We are currently disputing the charge with our Mastercard and will charge back. There is a class action lawsuit active against them. I will be joining that as well. I hope this review saves some innocent people from these con artists.

Beware! Stay away from this car rental company! I had the most horrible experience with this company—they are nothing short of thieves and scammers. The car I rented was in terrible condition, and they charged me outrageous hidden fees that were never mentioned upfront. It’s clear that they are only interested in squeezing every last penny out of their customers. I strongly urge everyone to avoid this company at all costs. You’ll be doing yourself a huge favor by staying as far away from them as possible. Don’t fall into their trap!

Rented a vehicle in Poland at Warsaw airport. Paid for and expected a compact luxury vehicle, but none available, so we accepted a larger, far less luxurious vehicle which had preexisting damages. Upon return of the rental no one present to inspect vehicle, but lo and behold after returning to the U.S. we received notification of over $500 in charges for scratches on the vehicle that we had nothing to do with. The only positive aspect of this transaction has been that their customer service did respond to my questioning the charge. They’ve done nothing to reverse the charge, but to their credit they did respond. Will never do business with Sixt again, in this country or elsewhere.

Returned a car to West Palm Beach location, employee told me I was all set and I'd receive an email statement and I then received an email claiming rim damage that I did not cause. When disputed they said there's nothing to be done and they were pursuing a claim. Do not use this company.

I was one of the thousands of airline passengers impacted by the Crowd Strike software update that triggered a global IT outage, beginning July 19, 2024. My July 21st flight was cancelled three hours before departure and re-booking options through the airline were not able to get me home in time for work on Monday. Greyhound buses were sold out so my only option was to rent a car. As expected, rental car options were limited. What was not expected was the price gouging by the rental car companies, including SIXT, with outrageous One Way-Fees. SIXT charged (and taxed @25%) a $700 One-Way Fee! I had my rental car for approximately 12 hours and paid $1601. You really know how to take advantage of desperate travelers. Shame on you. I contacted SIXT customer service and they basically said "too bad". I submitted a PRICE GOUGING complaint to the Minnesota Attorney General.

Car supplied was defective (loose trim, not obvious until moving). On returning the car before the end of the rental agreement for reassurance. I was assured by Sixt that I would not be charged for the defects. I have just had £500 deducted from my credit card. A formal complaint was ignored. This is how Sixt make money out of you. Avoid at all costs and get your own excess insurance just in case.

Disgraceful! Disgraceful!! When we picked up the vehicle the agent on the desk insisted us to take the full cover, we decided not to as we were only staying for 2 days and driving inside the city, keeping it on a closed parking. She was quite pushy but we thanked her and said we were experienced drivers and we looked after our cars. When we asked her to accompanied us to us where the vehicle was parked and inspect for damages she said she was busy and gave us a list of existing scratches and damages which were just listed and not marked on any diagram as it is customary to do so. The damages came with a QR code which was not working but she said it was alright. Once we arrived to the vehicle we noticed how badly washed it was and that it had several scratches to the windshield and several mild dentures throughout. Hence we got back to complain and were told there were no other vehicles in our range unless we wanted to pay an upgrade. As this negligent attitude put us off, we took a video of the state of the car and left. This morning as we returned the car, there was no one to receive it was early Sunday morning, so we dropped the keys in the mailbox available. We just received an email saying the car has a whole new series of damages, just a list, no photos, and to await for the bill. I do feel bad as we use Sixt through our corporate deal quite often, and it’s the first time in many years we have received such horrible client service and such a dubious email from the company. Avoid at all costs, there are other companies available for much cheaper rentals. We just called the customer service and they say that there is literally no human being we can talk to in order to raise a formal complaint and we will get our bill emailed with the required repairs to the vehicle. For me this sounds like a SCAM.

I rented from SIXT in June. I paid $471 for one week. A week after the car was returned they sent a bill for $723. I went to the company who said there was a monitor with all charges on the screen in front of me. That was not true. There was no monitor anywhere. I contacted my CC company to dispute and the BBB. I also discovered SIXT is being investigated for a class action lawsuit. Don’t bother with SIXT. You’ll spend the higher prices anyway. You might as well pay the higher prices upfront and deal with a more reputable company.

Minuses: The original agent really pushed us repeatably to take a much bigger and more expensive car than we had booked. To the point they only offered us cars two size levels above what we had booked as if that was all they had (we booked a "RAV4/Jeep Compass" (their description) and were offered a Tahoe and a Yukon). In the end I had to ask "Can we not just get the car we ordered, there is only 4 of us and two suit cases, we do not need seating for 7 adults" The car we were at last given had significant damage, it was like it had been dragged to the parking spot on its side. It looked like it had structural damage not just panel damage. The insurance they offered was twice the price of the insurance rates offered by Avis, Budget, and Thrifty. We only went with SIXT because their car rental rates were lower (got insurance through Expedia). Pluses: When I went back to the desk and showed them a photo of the car they assigned us, they gave us a brand new GMC Terrain, which was a great car, no issues. Returning the car was very easy, drove it past a giant scanner/camera thing, they confirmed straight away there was no damage or additional charges. Hence the three stars, yes initially annoying but to their credit we got a good car for the price and no hassle return.

I had a terrible experience with this car rental company. Despite initially having a positive view, their dishonest practices have lost them a customer. I needed to cancel a reservation due to a family emergency, as we needed a larger vehicle. The company assured me there would be no $100 cancellation fee. I confirmed this with both the company and Expedia. However, after canceling and renting a larger vehicle from another company, I was still charged the $100 fee. I explained the situation to them again, emphasizing the emergency and their prior assurance, but they still charged me. It wasn't about the money but about their integrity. This incident, especially given the circumstances, showed a lack of empathy and poor business practices. Despite a public response indicating they wanted to resolve the issue, my three attempts to contact them have gone unanswered. Their response was merely for show. As someone who frequently rents cars for work, I will no longer use or recommend this company. I hope the $100 was worth losing my business and the negative word of mouth. #poorbusinesspractices So many bad reviews and I’m disappointed in myself for not reading all the horrible reviews. I do business with those with good reviews and lesson learned. Don’t make the same mistake. Too many other options.

I rented a car from SIXT in Bordeaux for 3 days. When I returned the car, before flying out, they told me to just leave the keys as the only staff member was helping someone else (big mistake on my end!). A few days later I received an email saying that upon review they found a 10cm scratch on the rear bumper, one that I am pretty sure I did not cause but sadly have no way to prove since I did not take pictures when dropping off the car. The infuriating part though is that from the pictures SIXT sent me you can tell it's an incredibly superficial "damage" and there is no way anyone in their right mind would charge 414 euros for, which they are of course doing. It's clear that they don't have an interest in maintaining a loyal customer pool and are simply out to get you. I would STAY AWAY from Sixt. Plenty of other car rental companies around!

DO NOT RENT FROM SIXT. They tried to tell us that the car we reserved is not available and pushed us into a more expensive car for a few hundred dollars more. It was either that or wait for hours with my family(wife and 3 kids) after international flight. They do this to all service members overseas-verified by multiple sources. WORST CAR RENTAL COMPANY EVER. DO NOT RENT FROM THEM!

we reserved and rented a car at the Stuttgart Airport. The agent tried to upgrade us to a bigger car, which is expected. I declined the upgrade and was charged for the upgrade anyway. I was able to get the charges reduced, but the customer service said this was a one-time only "break". Total scam at the airport! Don't use Sixt.

Surprise final invoice had ridiculous damage waiver insurance $137 that I did not ask for I had insurance from Expedia,my credit card, and my own personal insurance. It is absolutely nonsense that I asked for a 4th insurance but this is garbage SIXT pulls on its customers. I am going to perhaps have my daughter file a class action I have already found several folks who had surprise final bills from this company. Insurance problems and phony scratch claims seems to be there business model. I am including the bill from Expedia that clearly shows I already had extra insurance. I will never rent from them again and I strongly suggest you go elsewhere.

I arrived super tired from a flight from Orlando to Kansas City and still had to drive 2 hours to Emporia. I rented a car and hit the road. It wasn't very clean inside with some dirt under the seat. As I was very tired and needed to get to the city, I decided not to complain and continued the trip. After a while, I noticed that the dashboard showed that one of the tires was very low. The car started making a strange noise, and I decided to stop. As I was on a highway, I was very scared and pulled into the nearest Walmart to call the company. After a long wait, I spoke with one person who transferred me to another, who transferred me to another. Finally, an employee said they would send help. I said "great, because I need to continue my journey." After an hour and forty minutes, that's right, almost two hours calling the company non-stop, asking them to help me, I did not receive ANY response. Since I couldn't wait because I had to continue my journey to work the next day, I drove very slowly on a dangerous highway back to the airport to exchange the car. I did so. The employees there (Lydia and the dark-haired guy who receives the cars) saw my state: desperate, sleepy, nervous because I hadn't received a call from the company, and crying. I got another car and continued my journey. Soon after, I noticed a charge on my bank account. They had charged me for 1 day of rental, even though I just exchanged the car and still had the rental for the next 5 days. When I called the company to complain about a series of things (service, car maintenance/check, etc.), Mrs. ALICIA DIXON answered the phone and very rudely said the following: It's your fault because you didn't pay for full insurance. If you had, you would have gotten help. I replied that the car probably wasn't properly checked because besides being dirty, the tire was low (or even flat), as I noticed this a while after starting to drive it. She continued saying that I probably drove over something that punctured the tire. My God, the company offers cars with problems and dirty, and still has a manager who blames the customer for the car's issues? When I told her I would record the call because I couldn't believe what I was hearing, ALICIA DIXON HUNG UP ON ME. That's right. A manager who HANGS UP on the customer. That's when I understood that the whole company has problems, and no consumer should go through this. I gave up talking to anyone and returned the car as soon as I could go back from Emporia to Kansas City. Today I received a threat by mail from the company saying that I still had the car (the one that was returned the same day because it had a low tire) and that if I didn't return it, they would report the car as STOLEN. Folks, if you want to have problems, be called a liar, have the phone hung up on you, and still receive a threat from a company (that has serious problems, besides communication and organization issues), this is the perfect company for you. Now, if you want to be treated with a minimum of respect and have a car you can trust for safety, maintenance, and inspection, NEVER USE SIXT. Because if you still have a problem and ask to speak with a manager, like ALICIA DIXON, she will call you a liar and hang up on you. A TOTAL disgrace!!

FRAUDULENT CHARGES. Overcharged by over 200$ including charged for gas even though we made sure to have a full tank of gas due to previous reviews stating they would charge for gas. We also took a picture of the full gas tank before dropping off the vehicle, and we were still charged for gas. Other extra fees included double charging the VAT tax. This company obviously has gotten away with some shady practices which I am sure are not legal. DO NOT RENT HERE.

Do not use Sixt. Whilst their check in procedure was fine on returning the car they discovered minor damage to a wheel rim that they claimed was not there when the car was collected After much correspondence to no avail they charged my credit card for the supposed damage and an administration fee As it happens I had a photo of the rim on pickup that showed minor damage already there . The photo was taken to show an existing large scratch above the wheel arch and consequently the rim which was included in the photo was a little fuzzy but still legible Not accepted by Sixt and all further requests including asking for a copy of repair invoice ignored Reported to ECRCS and my insurance company So use at your risk
