Told me to use the light blonde colour to lighten my hair though hair colour cannot lighten hair.
Helpful Report
Hi Caitlin, The Shade can lighten or darken 2 levels from your natural hair colour, but cannot lighten over previously coloured hair. I hope this helps! The Shade team
Not great coverage as advertised not very Happy with product.

Hi Jodie, Sorry you aren't happy with the coverage.. Our colourists would be very happy to assist. They can be contacted here seven days a week: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! The Shade team
The colour was much darker than it looked on the colour chart and now as a result I am left with really dark hair that I hate. I would love to get rid of the dark hair and try a lighter colour but other than going to the hairdressers which in Victoria I can’t do I am at a loss as what to do. Anything you could do to help? I would love to stay with your product because it left my hair lovely and soft and I do believe if I could get the right colour it could be good. I have written to the help page but no one replied. Hi Ros, Thanks for getting in touch. Our colourists received your enquiry on May 19th, and within an hour they replied with the following email: Hi Ros! Thanks for getting in touch and I hope you are well. Yes, Roma 4.3 is a very dark colour, so I would expect that you would get a very dark result from that colour. We do offer personalised colourist support to help with colour selection 7 days a week, so please do ask for help, and it is preferable to ask for help before you order a colour. As you already have colour in your hair, you would need to do a lightening process to lift out the darker colour pigments that are currently in your colour to achieve a lighter colour result, because colour cannot lighten pre-coloured hair. You can lighten your colour by doing a bleach wash at home. This is quite quick, easy and very effective, but bear in mind that you can’t recolour for 2 days and your hair will probably be a bit brassy (lightening does that) during that time. The upside is that when you recolour you will have a lighter base level and you can then comfortably achieve a lighter colour level and the bleach washing process will lift out all the darker pigments which are currently in your hair. We offer Bleach Wash Kits which include everything you need to bleach wash your hair, which will effectively and quickly lighten your base colour. They are $17.95 and include bleach powder, developer, Colour Protection Shampoo and Conditioner and gloves as well as detailed instructions. To add Bleach Wash to your order, go to the Shop page, scroll down until you find the Bleach Wash Kit, and you can then add that to your order. A bleach wash is gentler than a standard lightening process, but it will dry your hair and we recommend that you do some leave-in conditioner or oil treatments before and after bleach washing to restore moisture and condition to your hair. Please bear in mind that sometimes people need to repeat the bleach wash process to lift out all the darker pigments in their hair before they can recolour with a lighter colour. When you lighten your hair secondary tones which are natural present in the hair are always revealed and these can significantly impact the final colour finish, due to the natural contributing pigment. It is best to choose a cool based colour after lightening as the cool tone will counter-act and neutralise the unwanted warmth that is revealed during lightening. We recommend selecting a colour lighter than your colour goal after a lightening process, because you are likely to get a slightly darker colour result as the bleach wash temporarily increases porosity. After you have lifted out the darker colour pigments in your hair with a bleach wash, a good colour options for you would be Montecristo 6.1 Light Ash Brown which has a light brown base colour and cool Ash secondary tones which will counter-act and neutralise the warmth that is revealed during lightening. You can update your colour in "My Account' and if you wanted to add the bleach wash kit, you can go to the 'Shop' page and add that from there. I hope that helps and please let me know if I can help further. Thank you. X I will re-send this email to you as it does contain a few links. I hope this help! The Shade team
Napoli dark blonde made my greys orange.

Hi Frances, Sorry you didn't get the result you were looking for. Please read this following blog about blonde hair turning orange: https://theshade.com.au/colouring/colour-results/i-coloured-my-hair-blonde-and-it-went-orange-whats-going-on/ Please don't hesitate to contact one of our colourists here who can definitely helps you: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! I was so excited to try this out to cover my grey regrowth. Service was amazing with email consultation re colour. The smell was lovely and consistency. Easy to apply. Unfortunately it did not cover my grey regrowth. It did tint it and blend it a little better but it is still quite noticeable. I don’t have resistant course grey either so I’m not sure why it didn’t work for me. I was really hoping it would and I had struck gold , but you have to try these things. I’ll give it another go as I got 2 colour tubes and see what happens then.

Really impressed with the email consultation service, ordering process, delivery service and the at-home dye kit supplies! Sadly, the actual shade of the colour I ordered (San Remo) was atrocious and in no way resembles what it should have. It was supposed to lighten by hair to an ash blonde, but instead it made my hair a revolting caramel-ginger colour that looks fake and sickening. So unhappy with the colour, it pretty much ruined my hair! After leaving my hair to relax for a few weeks I chose to dye over the top of my awful hair colour with what appears to be a lovely, natural brown shade (Siena). Once again, bitterly disappointed with the colour - it looks absolutely nothing like what it is supposed to...instead of a lovely natural brown it is SUPER dark - almost black - with a really strong and fake-looking berry colour undertone. What the hell?!

Hi Sally, So sorry those colors weren't right for you. Wishing you the best! The Shade team
Unfortunately I had an allergic reaction and the colour "light blonde" made my blonde hair darker.

I was excited to try this product, but the colour wasn’t as good as even a L’Oréal box dye and hasn’t lasted well. Unfortunate as I liked the concept.

I ordered dark chestnut blonde and my hair is now very dark brown with a hint to red theough it. I'm not very happy with the colour as I was aiming for a light brown.

Hi Angie, Sorry that the outcome was darker than you expected. There is a number of reasons why this could have happened. Please contact one of our colourists here who would be happy to assist you: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ The Shade team
It didn’t cover my greys so I sent an email to complain but never heard a word from you I’m very disappointed as I was so excited about trying your product Di

Hi Diane, I have searched but I cannot find an email from you. I'm sorry you didn't get the result you were looking for. It seems you may have very colour-resistant greys. Please contact one of our colourists here who would be happy to assist you: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ Our colourists are available 7 days a week. I hope this helps! The Shade team
I followed the instructions for covering stubborn grey hair and it hasn’t covered the greys. It bleached them white. I used 8.2. I don’t think it ha fully coloured the regrowth either.

Hi Narelle, Sorry you had trouble colouring your greys. You mentioned to one of our colourists that you have stubborn greys, and it seems this certainly is the case. It seems you also have porous hair. Please look at the following blog: https://theshade.com.au/blogs/ten-tips-to-reduce-porosity-in-your-colour/ The Shade team
Unfortunately the colour was not great for me and I ended up being quite upset at the result (still am even after paying to have it fixed as much as possible). I sent a photo through of my current colour and specifically said I did not want to be too much lighter or have any warmth at all in the colour. The colour was way too light for me and ended up being very ginger :-( I am sure if I went darker I would have been much happier but in this case I will spend quite some time growing out the result.

I'm really disappointed. I got the colour consultation and have photos and ordered the colour recommended. I followed instructions exactly. I've done home colours before (years ago I did my own hair) so I'm not inexperienced. I ordered 7.1, so it should have been an ash blonde colour. Instead it's a ginger colour and not a nice one either. How 7.1 created red-gold tones I will never know. But I don't recommend it and wish I'd just lived with my regrowth until I could see my hairdresser again.

Hi Deena, I'm sorry you didn't get the result you were looking for. It seems that might have tried to lighten your colour on top of previously coloured hair. This would throw up some warm tones. There would not be any warm tones with Bellaria 7.1 Dark Ash Blonde on uncoloured hair within 2 shades, as ash neutralises warm tones. Please contact one of our colourists here who could assist you: www.theshade.com.au/colourist They are available 7 days a week. I hope this helps! The Shade team
Sorry but I can’t leave a positive review for this product as I’m not happy with the end result - one week after application the colour has washed out in places ... I was hoping for atleast 3-4 weeks before it started to show regrowth - the fade is far too quick.
Helpful Report
Hi Stacey! Sorry to hear about your colour fade. It sounds as though you may have porous hair, which can lead to colour leakage and fade. Here's some more information about that and tips to reduce porosity. https://theshade.com.au/blogs/how-hair-porosity-affects-hair-colour/ https://theshade.com.au/blogs/ten-tips-to-reduce-porosity-in-your-colour/ I hope that helps and wishing you the best! The Shade team
Unfortunately the colour chosen for me is very orange, and looks odd. Shame as the colour went on well and unlike other colourants I did not itch to pieces.

Speaking to a colour bot is no help to individual needs . Personalised service by phone is essential To make the right choice

Hi Karen, The link I sent you was to contact one of our colourists. The questions you answer will be sent to one of our colourists who will then have all the information to offer you personalised advice. There is also an opportunity to upload a photo(s) and ask specific questions. It is not a bot. Our colourists work 7 days a week, and it is unusual if our clients do not receive a reply within a couple of hours. Phone consultations just don't work for hair colour consultations as our colourists need photos, and detailed information such as hair history, colour goals etc. to provide personalised advice. I hope this helps! The Shade team
I still haven’t received my delivery, Australia’s post says it’s been in Melbourne for 10days.

Hi Lori, We shipped your order within 24 hours of receipt, but as I explained to you in the email I sent you, there are big delays from Australia Post all over the country mainly due to the increased volume of people having items home delivered. Information from Australia Post regarding the delays can be found here: https://auspost.com.au/about-us/news-media/important-updates/coronavirus#faqs I am sorry your order has been delayed, but The Shade did everything it could do to facilitate a quick delivery, but unfortunately Australia Post currently have a huge backlog. The Shade team
Great communication to help me pick a colour however I used the bleach wash and beige blonde as advised and now my hair is orange 😭 lucky I'm in isolation and no one can see it.

Hi Brooklyn, unfortunately you didn't take our advice that you can only lighten your hair by 2 levels, and to contact one of our colourists if you want to do a bleach wash. You selected Capri 8.2 Beige Blonde which is much too light for your hair and when you lighten beyond 2 colour levels, unwanted warmth is revealed due to the naturally contributing pigment. The Shade team
I made my order on 23 March and it hasn't arrived yet. This is a very long time to have had to wait for your product.

Hi Paula, I'm sorry you haven't received your order. We despatched your order on March 23rd, and checking the tracking on your parcel, Australia Post have said that it has been delayed. The tracking can be found here: https://auspost.com.au/mypost/track/#/details/33VQB340246001000935101 Sorry for the inconvenience. The Shade team
Fast service, helpful consultants and good quality product. However I am surprised by all the reviews that say it's easy to use. If you've watched your hairdresser colour your hair, you have to apply The Shade in exactly the same way, methodically sectioning your hair using clips. If you're experienced with that kind of thing, good for you. Me? I found it impossible to do in my cramped bathroom - the clips wouldn't stay in place, the bowl almost tipped a few times (watch out for the cat), I couldn't reach the back of my head or see what I was doing. In the end, in despair, I resorted to applying the stuff with my fingers Now I understand why box colours use a squeezy bottle.
Helpful Report
Hello, thanks for your review! It can be tricky the first time you use a bowl and brush to apply hair colour if you are use to squeezy bottles. Here's a video which could help you: https://theshade.com.au/support/ Please persist, as it's a much better way of colouring your hair as it allows you to colour where you need it. If you colour all your hair every time, you'll end up with colour build-up and colour banding. If you need help from a colourist, please feel free to contact them here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ Regards, The Shade team
