The colour was significantly different to what was shown online (much more than any expected amount for error with differing computer screens/lighting/etc). Used the colour 6.1 to slightly darken hair to a medium brown, the colour came out extremely dark brown almost black. Very disappointed.

Samantha, I'm sorry you didn't get the hair colour you were looking for. Please have a read of this blog: https://theshade.com.au/blogs/my-colour-result-is-darker-than-i-expected-why/ Our colour images online are accurate depictions of the colour, but there are other factors why your result is darker than expected. Also have a look at this blog on colour build-up: https://theshade.com.au/blogs/colour-build-up-is-the-worst/ If you would like some personalized help, please contact our colourist Camilla at camilla@theshade.com.au who would be happy to help you. I hope this helps!
While impressed with the kit, and found it easy to use I attempted to go 2 shades lighter than my natural colour, but there was absolutely no difference. I had even left a few pieces out and lowlights and cannot find them. I had higher hopes for this product.

Hi Leesha. Sorry you didnt get the colour result you were after. What colour level were you before you coloured using our product? Was that colour from permanent colour products, and if so, how often had you been colouring your hair that colour (how long have you had the darker coloured hair)? The reason I am asking is because some of the darker colours (colour levels 1-5) can be the hardest colours to shift or lighten, particularly if you have recoloured several times and overlapped the colour. This results in colour build-up, which 'locks in' the darker colour levels. It can be very difficult to achieve a lighter colour result if you have a colour build-up of a darker colour, and you might need professional colour removal before you can achieve a lighter colour result. Our 20 vol developer and a lighter colour will not shift that locked in darker colour. I have had this exact problem myself, after having level 3 colour for a while. I am now Light Ash Brown (6.1), but to achieve that I had to get the previous colour professionally removed and toned (to remove the red that was revealed by lightening it). Now I colour using our 6.1 colour and I have the colour result I wanted, but I tried to achieve this at home without removing my previous permanent colour and it didn't work for me either initially. So if you do have an existing darker colour, you may want to get professional advice or help with lightening your hair and then after that you can achieve and maintain the colour you want easily at home. I hope that helps and wishing you all the best!
I really appreciate your customer service, tools, videos, emails, etc, but I did not get a good result from the dye. I followed the instructions to the letter but the end colour was very dark and red - almost a cherry burgundy on my hair and it’s not flattering (I had golden brown which I was hoping would not end up red). Also I had a lot of fallout - my hair is really thin since dying earlier this week and I seem to have lost my curl - not a good result. I’ve already booked an appt with my hairdresser to see if they can recolour and cut it in a way that will mitigate some of the damage so it’s going to cost me a lot to try and fix! This is not the first time I’ve dyed my hair at home and I did a patch test that had no reaction, but this is definitely the worst result I’ve ever had. I really was hopeful with so much support that this would be a better product.

Hi Maggie, We are sorry to hear that you didn't get the colour result you were after. The final colour result is affected by your original colour and the colour tones within your hair. Golden brown does have warm reflect within it and if you lighten your hair the lightening process can reveal red undertones within your hair colour. Did you lighten your hair significantly? What was your colour level and tone before colouring? Our colour doesn't make your hair thinner. The colouring process actually makes the hair a little thicker during the process of depositing the colour pigments in the hair. Your hairdresser will use a cool toned colour to counteract the warm/reddish reflect which should neutralize the unwanted warm colour effect.
