I dyed my hair (that already had dark blonde coloured highlights in it) “golden brown” but my hair has come out a deep dark red colour. Much much redder than I was expecting. I’m not sure if the issue was the existing blonde highlights. Looking forward to it growing out.

I was so disappointed. The colour was very uneven and some parts of my grey didn't even get covered. Will never buy again.

Had a consult and requested a color for my grey hair. Told that my hair tends to go orange and is difficult to cover. The recommended color, turned orange and grey not covered. Very disappointed.

Hi Claudia, Sorry you weren't happy with your colour result. It can be particularly hard to manage the tone if your hair throws a lot of warmth and you want to lighten, as lightening always reveals natural warmth. Reddish/brassy colour pigments are naturally present in the hair and they are the last pigments to be lifted out of the hair during any lightening, because they have the largest colour molecules. The best approach to correct visible brassiness is to add some depth and cool tones. Adding a bit of depth means that the colour does not have to lift so much and that it is more likely to achieve an accurate, 'true' colour result. Cool tones will counter-act and neutralise unwanted warmth. We recommended a cool based colour which is only one level lighter than your previous colour. Lightening by one level while adding cool tones works successfully for the vast majority of people, but unfortunately that didn't work for you. The best approach to balance your tone is to add a little bit of depth together with cool tones to mute the unwanted warmth. Our colourist can recommend a single or blended colour option for you which will add either one level of depth or add half a level of depth and which has cool secondary tones if you wish. Regarding your stubborn greys, our colourist recommended pre-softening as that helps colour absorption and grey coverage over resistant greys, and that would certainly be helpful for you, but unfortunately you didn't try that. Please reply to a previous email from our colourist, and we'll be able to assist you further. I hope this helps! The Shade
Hi, i am still waiting for my hair colour after ordering it 3 weeks ago

I was looking for a professional DIY solution to dye my roots get during the lockdown and came across The Shade. Based on the positive reviews and feedback I decided to try it. I provided photos and the colours of my salon colours and received advice. Unfortunately I am not happy with the result (it's way too dark).

Hi Athena, Sorry you weren't happy with your colour result! We are happy to provide a lighter colour and advice on how to achieve a lighter colour level. Please contact one of our colourists here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! The Shade team
Great, clear instructions and useful tools. Unfortunately golden brown was instead some step back to my 90s teenage years of too dark mahogany but with the added cruel twist of bright red greys. Truly awful.

Dear Sally, I can see that you with Modena. Modena has prominent warm tones (as clearly listed in the description). All colours with warm tones have some red blended within the secondary tones. This can present differently on different hair - some people have hair which has a lot of natural warmth, in which case they will get a more visible reddish result from colouring with a warm based colour. Overall, if you really don't want to see any red in your hair the best approach is to avoid warm colours. Colours with a neutral tone are the best colours to cover greys because they don't have any prominent secondary tones which can appear lighter and brighter over greys. We don't recommend colouring to cover greys with a colour with prominent warm tones, or if you do want to see warm tones in your hair then we would suggest that you blend the colour with a neutral colour which will anchor the colour and avoid the lighter, brighter colour result over greys. If you need some assistance, please don't hesitate to contact one of your colourists here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! The Shade team
Loved the colour and all the equipment. Looked great for the first week then completely washed out :(

Hi Lisa, Sorry to hear that your colour faded so quickly. Colour fade is typically due to porosity, and hair which is porous leaks colour. Please contact our colourists who can provide tips and techniques which help reduce porosity and which support colour retention on hair with high porosity. They can be contacted here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! The Shade team
I was really excited to use the product. I was impressed with the service and thought it would be perfect. Unfortunately it did not cover my greys. I found the softening(which was actually just a developer on its own) very laborious, took way too long and made it difficult to apply the colour after. Overal , the time was very long and I really was disappointed when it did not cover my greys. A lot of effort for no return.

I was really disappointed with my order from the Shade. The incorrect colour was sent to me (dark ash brown) and I only realised it after I applied it to my hair, resulting in my turning a much darker shade than I wanted. I feel product control must be lacking.
Helpful Report
Hi Emma, I'm very sorry you were sent the incorrect colour. We will send you a bleach wash kit which will remove the darker pigment from your hair, and a replacement colour kit. Unfortunately one of our packers made a mistake by sending the incorrect colour. We will reiterate with the packer the absolute importance of packing the correct colour listed on the packing list. Once again, we are terribly sorry, and apologise for your inconvenience. Best regards, Craig The Shade
Dear team, I have tried to cover the grey hairs and followed the directions for use as per the instructions - I still have not and cannot get the grey hairs on the side of my head covered. My hair is pulled back daily and I have become used to having the greys exposed. I would appreciate some guidance on how to get the greys covered for a long period. Max after a week or less its back. Many thanks Cheryl

The shade product wasn't great for me as it didn't cover all the grey hair.

Hi Magda, Thanks for your feedback. It seems you have particularly colour-resistant greys. Please contact one of our colourists here who would be happy to assist: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! Craig The Shade
Disappointing results from this product, I had to cut a huge matted piece of hair off after colouring. I have never experienced anything like it before after many years of dyeing my hair with store bought boxed kits.

Hi Elaine, So sorry you weren't happy with your colouring outcome. We have thousands of clients and have never had that feedback before. Not sure that is a colouring issue, and it definitely isn't anything we have heard of before. Please feel free to contact one of our colourists here if you would like some assistance: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ Best Regards, Camilla The Shade
Have tried multiple colours and have overall been disappointed. A plus is the dye doesn't irritate my scalp but the colour result has never met my expectations. Will not purchase again.

When first done the color looks good however I find the color fades very quickly and after just 3 weeks it has faded quite substantially. I am very unhappy with the longer term results.

Hi Denise, Sorry that you weren’t happy with your colour result. Colour fade is typically seen when the hair is porous, as the hair can then leak colour. Please contact one of our colourists for detailed recommendations which can help reduce porosity. https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ Thank you very much. Craig The Shade
Was great but now I don’t need it anymore and have tried twice to cancel automated subscription. It is annoying.

I was very disappointed with the result. I purchased light ash blonde that stated that it would have no red in it, but my hair didn’t come out ash, it definitely has a red tinge to it. I just don’t think you can get salon quality colour at home.
Helpful Report
Hi Dee, I'm sorry you didn't get the result you were looking for. Ash colours neutralise warm tones, so there must be an underlining reason why there is a red tinge. Please contact one of our colourists here who would be happy to assist: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps! The Shade team
The colour was great! However I had an allergic reaction. I scratched for days, blistered, burnt and lumps. Unfortunately not a natural hair day :(
Helpful Report
Not suitable for allergy sufferers contains PTD which has a high allergy risk, I purchased this not realising it contained PTD and it was advertised as being a low allergy risk, I did a skin test and had a reaction within 1hour a week later I still have a sever rash and skin swelling where I tested this product.
Helpful Report
Hi Ashleigh, I'm sorry you had an allergic reaction, and I'm pleased you performed an allergy alert test. Our colour uses PTD—Toluene 2,5-Diamine Sulfate (TDS), an ingredient that effectively replaces PPD in permanent hair color while offering a lower incidence of skin sensitivities. Studies show that more than half of users who are allergic to PPD did not experience any adverse effects to products using a PTD substitute. However, as the ingredients are chemically similar, it is possible for users who are allergic to PPD to experience some irritation when using a color with PTD. Wishing you all the best! The Shade team
I didn’t get a free trial as my sister had one before
Helpful Report
I really loved the subscription method, and the colour was lovely, but it only gave me a 2 week coverage of my greys, which is pretty disappointing!
Helpful Report
Hi Sarah, I'm sorry to hear that your greys are only covered for 2 weeks. Colour fade is usually due to hair porosity which basically causes the colour to leak. Please have a look at this blog: https://theshade.com.au/blogs/ten-tips-to-reduce-porosity-in-your-colour/ If you would like some assistance from one of our colourists, they can be contacted here: https://theshade.com.au/colourist/ I hope this helps!
